    Good to hear 👍👍

It's a corrupted chip. Emmcs have a lifespan apparently and that lifespan can be tested for with a programmer. I've pulled them off and tested them and they basically come back as corrupt. When you stick a new chip in, shows life used at 0 percent.

Either way.. awesome to hear. Easy fix.

I'll just post this bit of logic, you can research it if you like op. The eMMC typically lasts 4 or 5 years, replacing the mainboard with a used one will get the tv going if the eMMC has life left. THE question is how much is left. So without knowing, what you are left with is pretty much a ticking time-bomb. With most of these boards at more than 100 dollars used, it's not best practice. If someone didn't have the tools or didn't want to try or bother with repair. They could send it off to Nick or similar, they will install a NEW eMMC, get prolly a year warranty and you can rest easy that you have a new eMMC. And I'm pretty sure he can do it for less (than the uninformed, at least hopefully they are, people that are selling them on ebay are charging) So I would get that free quote from Nick...or tick...tick...tick. We seem to be striving for GREAT advice here lately, so there you go.

There's Nick's doing one, anyone going this route needs to keep in mind what he says in the comments about netflix and some other apps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mY9SDK6ihYc

Yes but when you replace the EMMC on the Sony's you also lose access to Netflix prime and Hulu sometimes more than likely you do it just depends randomly.

You can still access it through like a fire stick or some other media but no longer on the TV anyways

yeah, that's no good.. One last question, I can replace the eMMC with a brand new IC, but do I need to get some code into it? Is the actual executable code in the eMMC? Thanks

Thanks for sharing. It's interesting that the eMMC failure symptom on the TV in the Video is not preventing the startup process - it just halts. Mine is showing no life at all - wonder if the failure is other than eMMC

Yes, in Nicks video he says they program a new chip and install it.

Yes you need to program it. Nick said he has to get the food software from a board that isn't bad, then he copies it and can use it afterwards. You can buy preprogrammed emmcs but the ones I saw were like 50-70$ each. Or buy a blank one for 2-4$ off Ali Express and put your own software. I have yet to be able to perform this yet on my own, and I don't have a proper reball machine or whatever you call it so I'm just using a hot air gun. I feel like there is something I'm missing but not sure what.

Yes, I thought I replied but it didn't post, it said restore. But you know I can't be always fixing a TV at all times . But I can be here because my phone is with me at all times... Don't see how this applies at all.

Thank you. I will exhaust the mlcc testing first then consider the emmc replacement.. happy tv is working though. Not sure what the comment from Diah means or refers to

Seems you do try to help, need to save the smart remarks for those who truly deserve them and not get involved in others disputes and send them in pm so as not to crap up the threads with controversy. Think before you lash out.

Ok, finally got some time to investigate the issue on the main board. As it turns out, this had nothing to do with the eMMc. Several of the caps under the processor were shorted. I removed over 45 caps on the board that were shorted, with no luck. Finally, removing the processor cleared the shorts on the pads previously shorted. Internal short in the processor is the root cause. Hope this helps someone else.. at this point, it will take hours to put the caps back, then if the ARM had some pre-programming, that's yet another can of warms that I don't want to go after. I'll hang on to the board in case my existing eMMC dies years from now. Thank you all

Nice! That's the less likely thing but the CPU dies as well. good find. Check the caps by cpu.

Also if the CPU was the actual thing that was wrong the EMMC can be removed and the software can possibly be taken off the chip now. And then save the 8 gig file for future use lol

I may have to invest into a JTAG programmer.. good idea

Jason you remembered me an Italian comedian that played the role of unlucky man in many films: "..after 45 condensers on the pile, one doubt came into his mind: could it be a bad chip???" ... apart jokes, this is not the way the good technician do, after the second cap you better had to take the bench psu and do the well known current injection..

but remaining on the defect, you already did the reflow of chip, no? A ball could have made a short doing a bad reflow job, or the pop corn effect damaged the chip.. have you pre heated the bottom before blowing to top? Now neither the godfather saves this board..
