Sony KD-70X690E Bravia; Bad TCON? Bad panel?

What's wrong with my TV: the TCON, the panel, or something else? I'm stuck.

    Problem:

Last week, my Sony KD-70X690E 70" stopped displaying a picture. The TV powers on, and the back lights power on. However, the TV doesn't seem to boot up. I say this because the SONY splash-screen logo does not display, nor does any picture display, nor can I invoke a menu by pressing "Menu" on the remote. Other than back-light bleed, the screen is black.

My troubleshooting got me this far:

With the left-hand TCON to bottom-board ribbon cable disconnected, the TV starts normally and the right half of the screen works great. I can now see half the SONY logo for a couple seconds, and then half a menu asking me to select a language (likely from the factory reset I did previously).

The left half of the screen is white. (Possibly related to the problem, 10 inches in from the left edge, a 1-pixel pink vertical line extends from the top of the screen down 7 inches.)

    - I re-seated both ends of the bottom-board ribbon cables, including the cable that bridges the two bottom boards.
    - All bottom-board tabs appear to be undamaged and tightly stuck down to the bottom boards.
    - I don't see any cracks in the panel.

    Thank you for any help.

Since the t-con is at the bottom. You will need to inspect the ribbons that attach to the panel for water damage. You will need to remove the metal piece covering the boards.

I assume no responsibility for any stupid suggestions I might post.

That line for sure is panel. Worth trying scotch tape method, google for more details. Maybe you will get picture back, possibly not perfect and I don't think that line will go away.

Yes vertical line is separate panel issue from no video and will still be present if you can get video to show. Tape cutoff method https://techhometravel.com/repair-of...lines-on-a-tv/

With your help, I made progress this weekend. Thank you! With ribbon-cable "pin" 6 blocked with Scotch tape, the TV now shows the Sony logo and a picture. Cool!

However, although the picture and text are sharp, the left half of the screen is orange and dark. (See photos.)

Does this mean the TCON board is OK and something is broken downstream of the TCON?

Why is the screen orange after Scotch-taping? In the Scotch-tape-repair videos I watched, the screens don't become discolored after the tape is applied.

With the left-most driver bridge cable disconnected, the orange color is still there. (See photo.)

What might I try to resolve the discoloration?

Sony KD-65x8500b - bad Tcon or panel?
            by rimwall
Hi, hoping for some views on this one which I've not come across before. The TV generates an image that has 12 noticeable bands across it. The image is still there and accurate, but the colour (or perhaps the brightness) changes gradually across each band which creates a noticeable 'step change' at the edge of each band. Given it's a 4K TV with 2160 rows of pixels, I'm guessing the 12 bands correspond to 12 gate drivers of 180 rows each. If this guess is right, then perhaps:
            a) all the gate drivers are malfunctioning the same way (which seems unlikely), or
            b) the Tcon board is malfunctioning,...

Bad Panel in Sony Bravia X850G
            by guidodroid
            Hello all,
I'm trying to understand what is the issue with my 26 months old Sony Bravia KD-65XG8505 (XBR65X850G).
It is just few months out of warranty, so Sony doesn't want to do anything, and the local replacement shop also tells me that it's not worth repairing (alhtough this model costed almost 1000 euros just 2 years ago...).

Few nights ago the TV started showing some horizontal lines and distorted colors/geometries in the bottom part of the screen (see attached photos).
The issue is not as bad as others that I've seen around, but is indeed noticeable...

TCL 50S535 bad tcon or panel issue?
            by x_orange90_x
Just bought this for 10 bucks yesterday hoping to fix it. The guy said water dropped inside from a dehumidifier hose and it started showing black and white vertical bars then went blank. When I got it home and turned it on it came on fine and displayed correctly but I was noticing faint vertical bars in the image. After a little bit I turned it off and back on and it was a black screen again. I opened it up to check for water damage and corrosion but didn't find anything of the sort. I cleaned the ribbons anyway and reconnected them but still got a blank screen. If I disconnect the right side...

Driving a Sharp TCON/panel with a universal main board
            by advant
This thread is about trying to get an Universal Main Board to work with a Sharp TCON and panel.

I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match...

            Sony Bravia 75X850C panel
            by m4a2t0t
After changing out the backlights I have a single green vertical line on the left side of the screen. Is there any way to fix it? I tried putting pressure on all the tabs and on the top of the panel but neither helped.
Does Sony epoxy all their panels or just the expensive ones?
