    Vizio XVT473SV Troubleshooting

    I have a Vizio XVT473 LCD TV that alternates between amber/white on front LED logo when you plug it in. The pattern will stop after a couple of minutes and then go to solid amber. At this point, you can hit power and the Vizio logo turns white. However, there is no sound or picture and the only way to turn off the TV is to unplug it.

    I've checked for bad caps (visually), fuses (continuity test), and looked for any obviously burned out ICs. There is a blue LED on the inverter board that briefly flashes one time when you do turn on the TV (white logo state).

    Here are the readouts from the power supply with the power on:
    Connections on upper right:
    18V = 18.18V
    PWM = 2.55V
    BL ON/OFF = 3.32V
    POW ON =3.32V
    12V = 11.69V
    5.1VS = 5.07V

    Connections on upper left:
    FBLED1 = 9.5mV
    FBLED2 = 9.4mV
    VIN (ON) = started around 130mV then went towards 0mV
    BL ON/OFF = 3.3V
    PWM = 2.54V
    5.1VS = 4.87V
    VLED1 = 7.0mV
    VLED2 = 7.2mV

    I can see that there is a problem with the power getting to the inverter board, but I'm not sure if it's the main board causing this or the power board itself. It seems like it's the power board to me since the BL ON/OFF is getting the correct voltage.(?) I'm not sure what VIN (ON) is though. I'm still pretty new at this. Please let me know which one is the likely culprit and why. Thanks.

    After reading more in another post, it also sounds like it could be a bad tcon (not syncing)? Any help would be appreciated.

      could be a bad T-CON ,have you measure the voltage on the fuse(both ends) on the T-CON board, and are you getting any backlight?

        My tv has same problem. But it has back light with blue led on inverter blinking. It also shows A big V logo on screen about 90 seconds. During this time I can not turn off the tv.then tv turn off by itselft with led blink amber and white.It keeps doing like this forever until I unplug power AC.

        TV never shows OSD or any picture except the V logo on screen.

          Voltages at the fuse check out at approximately 12V from what I remember. I forgot to mention that in the original post.

              I finally have some time to check this TV out again. I was hoping that I would've had some more replies by now. Can anyone offer any more advice?

                Was this problem ever resolved? I have no backlight, see virtually identical voltages as posted above and also the blue LED on the inverter board flashes just one time every time I turn the TV on (white logo state).

                Sound is ok and I can see video on screen when I shine a light on it.

                  Did you ever get a resolution to your issue? I have the same issue.
                  XVT 473SV with dead backlight. Screen has video with a flashlight. Sound OK

                  I took of the back, my blue LED on the inverter stayed on.

                  I did not check voltages as that is not my area of knowledge.

                  Was going to replace the PSU and inverter but curious if you had a fix?

                    Re: Vizio XVT473SV Troubleshooting

                    Mine was fixed by replacing the power supply board. Took 2 tries, the first one I got was bad. It was from River Valley Electronics and they never returned phone calls or email regarding the bad board. I wouldn't use them as a source. Got the second from an individual seller on Ebay.

                      Did OP ever resolve this issue?

                      I have a history of my Vizio XVT473SV resetting itself intermittiently and at random. It would go through power cycles to finally run for hours problem free. Than the problem would occure after long hours of not using it. I suspect this was a problem with one of the boards.

                      Now my Vizio is toasted. It fried when I plugged it as a external display to my laptop. Now it doesn't receive power at all. I smelled something burning and saw sparks coming from the back.
