Re: Sony KDL-52V4100 13 blink code

BTW, what is your boards numbers?
My two balancer boards for 46", your are for 52" but may have the same setup.
    LEFT: SSB460HA24-L REV 0.4
    RIGHT: SSB460HA24-R REV 0.4
    My comparator IC is LM2903

Re: Sony KDL-52V4100 13 blink code

OK, I drew up the comparator circuit of my balancer board, there are TWO comparators, one for detecting the outputs of those dual diodes, another one is for sensing if the high voltage is present. Both output (pin 1, pin 7 of the comparators are tied together and feed the LD pin.
So, can you check and see if pin 1 and pin 7 of IC U1 are tied together or not?
Also pin 5 and pin 3, see if they are connected togther.
I keep reading on page 51, it said that if the DF5 board failed, it will not cause 6x error but 13x error. You had indicate that the reading from the meter probe sitting close to the lamp connectors put out less voltage than DF4 board.
This is really tough TV to work on with out having spare boards to try and learning how different failure can cause same error code. The training manual also keep indicating the balancer error will happen of one of the lamp does not fire up. I am beginning to think that you may have bad inverter board.
If you remove CN6950 flat cable on D5 that goes to the D4 and see if you will still get 13x error.

Re: Sony KDL-52V4100 13 blink code

Pins #1 and #7 are not connected together (514 Kohm).
Pins #3 and #5 are not connected together (374 Kohm).
If I disconnect connector CN6950 the green light stays on longer, clicks like three times and then kicks in the error code which is #6 blinks.
The CCFL tubes do not turn on at all.
And I thought that this TV will be a simple fix.
Since the D5 is not running it's missing that reversed faze, no?
I should probably start measuring semiconductors on the inverter boards, right?

Re: Sony KDL-52V4100 13 blink code

I have measured the D5 semiconductors and I didn't find anything wrong.
I'm starting to measure the D4 board.
There is an OZ9770AGN (IC6701) at the bottom of the board.

Re: Sony KDL-52V4100 13 blink code

Per training manual, if the slave does not work, in this case we stop it from working by removing the cable, the master still should at least fire up the lamps, but you will only see the glow one end of the lamps that are connected to the master inverter.
              Page 51:
Since the DF4 board is operating, the backlights will light momentarily but if one observes the screen closely, you should notice that the right side is backlit with a little more intensity than the left side. It is subtle, but you should be able to detect it. The same symptom could appear if the inverter were to fail on the DF4 board with the oscillator/drive circuits still functional. This would keep the DF5 board active and the symptoms and shutdown events would be the same except the left side of the screen would have a little brighter backlighting than the right before the unit shuts down.

So it seems to me that DF4 master is not working so you are now getting 6x code.

                That what I think too.
I have checked all the semiconductors-except the OZ chip and there is another chip- and they check out OK.
Most likely the OZ chip doesn't fire up the CCFL tubes.
I can't find a datasheet for this chip, to check it out if it's shorted.
Inverters are cheap on Ebay. I have found even for $15 shipped.

Looking at the circuit, we know that when cable is not removed from the D5 board, you did see the lamps flash, that means the OZ IC is working, but the two power MOSFETs that drive the inverter transformer in the D4 is not working when you run the D4 by itself.
Page 71~74 in the service manual. I am beginning to understand more how this TV works after looking at the service manual.
                            Check the section I redlined.
                            Check caps C6791, C6606 both are 1uf 450V caps, Fusible resistor R6700.
Boys, the boards are cheap, worth having them for troubleshooting.

My TV is 52" not 46" as in your part numbers and the IC is a A358F.
                              Board numbers are: SSB520H24S01(LL/LU/RL/RU).
I will measure those components now.

                                R6700 4.7 Ohm is showing 30.3 Ohm(?)
C6606 in circuitry shows a high value 3135uF, but out it shows .995uf, so it's good.
I should check C6797 which is in series with the C6606? That shows in circuit 1.53uf. I would think that is good, no point in removing it and testing, right?

Those high pulse handling cap will usually failed and will show very low capacitance, that is what I am looking for from you test result. That fusible resistor should be removed, with that high resistance the drive circuit will not produce enough drive to drive the Gate drive transformer. I think are are getting close to the problem now. D5 board use the same value resistor (R6950) for feeding the Gate drive circuit also.
You should also check out those three transistors in that Gate drive transformer circuit.

                                    The R6950 shows 4.8-4.9 Ohm.
Now, I have measured again R6700(4R7 marking) and it shows 46.2 Ohm.
I will have to un-solder it to be able to measure it properly.
I will check those transistors too.
Not sure, if it's worth all this time spent on this board, since it's so cheap.

I'm measuring the two 2SK2009 and between the drain and source I'm measuring 496 Ohm at both transistors. How did I miss that? Most likely that is not good.
I have measured the other four output transistors Q6717/Q6719 and Q6718/Q6720 with the diode setting on my DMM and each (three) way shows 0.550/0.578 V. What that means? On the D5 it's a bit different.
I'm not sure which three transistors you are referring too. The Q6602/Q6603 I don't measure any low resistance and I have compared them to the D5 transistors and they show the same thing.

D4 and D5 board use the same exact setup for driving the Gate transformer, so what you read on D4 should be the same as D5 which works.
I would get both D4, D5 boards at this point.
