I recently got my hands on a 60" Panasonic P60ZT60 plasma tv (european model) that has some strange issues along with an 8 blink code.
It know this tv is getting old but it was once considered one of the best plasmas ever made, and i think it is still holds on to that even by todays standards.
So, long story short. When i first got the tv it had a very bright washed out picture with very raised blacks in all picture modes and i couldn't find the cause in the picture setting menus.
After doing a factory reset this problem was gone and the picture was back to normal only now with a quite heavy red push in the highlights. This was fixed by lowering the red gains in the
2-step white balance control. The VSUS was also changed from LOW to HIGH in the service menu defeating some pink blobs on the screen caused by heat due to dirty fans.
It was then set back to LOW after cleaning the fans and the pink blobs didn't reoccur. So far so good and i used the tv for a couple of weeks until the real problem started.
I was playing with the picture setting and changed the panel luminance setting from MID to LOW when the tv immediately shut itself off giving me an 8 blink code. I turned the tv back on and it worked until it was again
set to LOW. "Okay, so just leave it on MID then" i thought and continued using the tv as normal when suddenly after being on for about one hour it turned off again, this time all by itself and with panel set to MID.
After that it seemed to have cured itself and i watched alot of blu-ray movies and youtube videos on it with zero problem. Not even switching to panel LOW made it shut down, until one day when i was
watching some local tv stations it happened again. I rememberd that when the problem first occured i was also watching local tv stations and here in europe those are in 50hz. After some more testing i could confirm that it's actually only happening
when the tv's in 50hz mode, and i could after some further testing also confirm the following:
50hz, panel MID, contrast 60 : shuts down after 1-2hours (8 blink)
50hz, panel LOW, contrast 60: shuts down immediately (8blink)
50hz, panel MID, contrast 100: does not seem to shut down
50hz, panel LOW contrast 100: shuts down after 1-2 hours (8 blink)
60hz does not shut down at all
24hz does not shut down at all
As the 8 blink code points to the SS-board i have checked the grounding screws and reseated the ribbon cables.
Measuring continuity between pins 1-2 on the ribbon connectors with cables connected to panel also checked out OK.
I can't see any visual faults on the cards or components.
I'm thinking about replacing the SS-board, or what do you guys think?
I just can't get my head around why it's only happening in 50hz mode.
Thank you!
