    Sony KDL46z4100 red hazy picture

    Hello all!

Last night I was watching a movie on my Sony KDL46z4100 and midway through the movie the picture coloring went 'dark'.

    - Didn't touch any settings
    - Was watching the movie through the XBOX, but the problem persists even with other inputs / when the XBOX is turned off
    - Yellow looks orange, Orange looks red, people look orange / red, whites look more gray / dark, blues look purple... etc...
    - Tried to play with the settings to turn up all brightness settings. Even at max everything looks very dark
    - Didn't hear any 'popping' noises when the picture failed
    - I had a similar problem with an 'old school' computer monitor a couple of years ago and it was because one of the tubes was bad. However, I don't know anything about the guts of an LCD TV, but my assumption is that they don't use tubes
    - Since this happened mid-stream it would suggest to me that something failed and that it didn't have anything to do with resetting to factory settings. Regardless, I did go an try to reset all of these without any results...

Anyone have any idea on what part might have gone bad, and what that part might cost? I am willing to get this repaired if it is economical, but if it's going to cost $1000, then I'll just get a new TV!!!

    Thanks for you help!!!

      Hi, thanks for the response!

I have attached pictures of the backside panel along with close ups of the components. I didn't take a close up of the tcon board, but it's just like the one at this link

If I can give you any more information to help narrow down what the problem might be, happy to post as many more pics as required!

      Thanks again!!

        I've highlighted three things.

In red, I've highlighted some stickers, can you get a picture of these?

In blue, there is a cable from the main board to the T-con board. Please unplug this cable, then plug it in again, and see if the problem is resolved. Try both ends.

Re: Sony KDL46z4100 red hazy picture

I got two this model TVs, same t-con problem. I ordered one (Part#: A1564648A) to replace, the tv power on and I saw the logo on the screen for a second then power off itself with 14 led blinks.
When I unplug the cable from main board to t-con, TV can stay on power, no picture of course. The T-con is expensive and not easy to find, and I suspected I bought a bad T-con.
I would like to go the way to fix the t-con, but no schematic or more info. Any one?

Got it right here attached tom66!! Thanks for your response and please let me know if you need anything else to help diagnose!

Sevenqi, you are suggesting that this is a TCON problem? I actually hope that's not the case because I looked at a few websites to see if there were parts available and new ones are out of stock... not sure if I am really excited about buying a used one!

OK, AU Optronics LCD panel... that's what I needed to know... These have a common fault with the "AS15G" chip on the T-con. I believe they can cause a similar fault when they fail. Basically every T-con or other TV part you buy will be used, a pull from a smashed screen TV. You have a 5~10% chance of picking up a dud board, but otherwise they are usually fine with minimal usage on them.

If you want to try diagnosing the T-con please take the shield off and post closer pictures of it.

If you are willing to look at it further, I have posted pics of the tcon board.

Understood that I could just order the tcon and be done, but I am enjoying learning about this, so thanks for teaching me!

Yours t-con is different from mine, the TV model is the same: KDL-46Z4100.
Looks like this model used different t-con or even different panel, I have no chance to capture the panel sticker, but I post the t-con and the part number.

I'd still bet on the Tcon, that picture doesn't look at all like a bad panel.

A new member here, and immediately happy (sorry...) to see I am not alone !
My KLD-46z4100 has that exact problem !
Picture went like that (previous message), being bright/white and colours way off.
Pointing to broken T-Con board, right ?
Where can I get a replacement, here in US ?
Opened the back cover once, with some guidance from here. But didn't see anything wrong. By eye, I mean.
Didn't open the T-Con yet, as I was (and still am) a bit worried if I can do it. Or if I take it to shop to get fixed. But I have a feeling, a TV manufactured 2008, fixing it in a shop might cost a lot. And when compared against a brand new one, with warranty and all that, I might be better off trying to replace that board first. Myself.....
When T-Con board fails, is there something visible to see ? What if anything, can I measure to verify it is gone bad ?
Thanks for all tips and guidance !

I second that it is the T-CON board problem, something in the GAMMA/Voltage circuit. It may not use the AS15 REF voltage IC but it should use other IC with similar function. TI also makes IC for GAMMA Voltage ref. You may have to look at the ICs and look up the spec sheet of the IC to find out which one does the GAMMA function.

Also looks like the TCON market is about to get tighter. If you all end up getting them before me and find that it fixes the problem please let me know. If I get one, I'll do the same!!

Re: Sony KDL46z4100 red hazy picture

I ordered mine yesterday, let's see if it arrives in one piece. Or if it arrives at all.
Was shocked to see how many different boards are available. Even with the right modelnumber. The one I ordered matched, atleast all numbers were just like in mine.

Do these boards have a pre-programmed date to go bad in them ?
As these T-Cons on KDL-46Z4100 TVs are going bad all about now.... :-)
Warning for all owners of this model, Your T-Con board is about to go bad about right now !

Will naturally report here, what ( if anything ) comes out of this all.
Wife not happy, as that screen is lying on our dining table now...I simply don't want to put it back together before I get that new T-Con in...

Hello, Last week I bought the 50" Sony X80j tv everything was working fine, untill I plugged the tv in a ups power supply 650va the tv remote control became unresponsive and the TV became laggy after a while the picture quality isn't the same as before the tv seems less brighter and the picture is somehow blurry, people's faces don't look as natural as before, there is a mini orange-pink tint to the edge of people's faces especially in NETFLIX Dolby Vision like in One Piece ep1 Alvida skin tone, my intention was to protect the tv but something went wrong I checked the ups with a multimeter,...

Sony XBR-85X950G Gray horizontal lines and vertical picture shift diagnosis?
                                          by noisykid
5.5 year old 85 inch Sony Bravia X950G started showing gray horizontal lines across the bottom of the screen and the picture shifts slightly vertically when it happens. The lines sometimes get bigger/smaller vertically and bounce back. See the video for the problem. It seems to be happening after it warms up after an hour or so. Happens regardless of source. Right now there's nothing but power cable connected and it's happening. We did hook up a new Nintendo Switch to our HDMI switching receiver today, and played for a while with no issues, but this problem didn't occur til a few hours later while...

Sony XBR 49x900E - Sound and backlight on but no picture

                                          Hey Guys,

So a few months ago my Sony XBR 49x900e TV screen stopped displaying the picture but the backlight comes on and I still get sound when I use the remote and navigate to certain apps. I haven't checked anything with the meter yet but started with ordering some replacement boards. I've tried replacing the BMKS board (used from ebay) and also completed the firmware upgrade based on Nicks TV repairs youtube video. I've also replaced the TCON (twice) and PIB.

All of these changes have resulted in the same issue with no picture. I've also tried disconnecting the ribbons...

Sony KD-43XE8005 with sound, backlight, no picture
                                          by ronni
I have a Sony KD-43XE8005 with no picture on the TV when powered on. Audio and backlight work ok when powering on. Solid white indication light showing on front of tv bezel.

When removing the left hand ribbon cable from the T-con board, a white image is displayed on that half of the screen and a black screen is shown on the right. If I gently rub the ribbon cable on the right an image or purple black bars appear. The cable doesnt appear damaged, and if swapped with the other ribbon cable the same flickering symptoms can be seen.

Removing the LVDS cable results in...
