Re: Sony KDL46z4100 red hazy picture
Talking to the repair guy now. Is the chip that we tested (with the VGMA 1-12 pips) the IC chip after all? Just checking as that is the chip that he wants to replace...

Re: Sony KDL46z4100 red hazy picture
OK yeah these were the test points VGMA 1 through 12 that you mentioned to test, my father in law did have it on the screw points for the back mount, so think we are good there.
So I have the option to send this off to a guy for repair for ~$50 or to order from the guys at the wisny.com a 'new' board (probably refurbished) at ~$120. Would you go for the 'new' swap to be safe, or take a chance on this guy repairing?
(I have a mind to eventually learn to repair on my own, but at this point think I will leave that to...

Yeah, that's right! My father in law was holding the one against the chassis and I didn't see him move, but I can't guarantee it

Re: Sony KDL46z4100 red hazy picture
All right!! I finally managed to find the time to measure with the volt meter. It's on the 20V measurement setting and I get the following out of the 12 measure points...
1: 0.32
2: 2.23
3: 3.47
4: 4.19
5: 4.54
6: 6.14
7: 7.04
8: 8.29, and then second measure 7.4
9: 7.5
10: 10.33
11: 9.0 and then second measure 6.3
12: 9.5 and then second measure 8.8
So it would seem that this is indeed the problem, since I am getting varying measurements,...

Sony KDL46z4100 Ribbon Cable
I posted on another forum, but just thought to check here in a new post.
I have a KDL46z4100 that I botched the ribbon cable. This is the cable that goes from the TCON board to the LDC. Looking online I found a ribbon cable for the KDL46V4100, but none for the 46z. Should I be safe in getting this cable as the same?
For reference, the part number for the one that I found is listed as YS0823.001781
Thanks everyone!!

Re: Sony KDL46z4100 red hazy picture
OK sounds good. As I have it pulled off right now, any way to test without reinstalling; or it needs power going through it to work?
Thanks!

Re: Sony KDL46z4100 red hazy picture
Got it... think those are the solid points opposite the "hollow" points opposite CG16-CG27, with the "grey" square circuits in between?

It seems that my trend of not making my life any easier continues! OK, I'll continue to search around for those cables...
Attached are the close ups of the IC circuit from front (and back if needed)!...

Re: Sony KDL46z4100 red hazy picture
Ah, ok. I will borrow one from my neighbor. What sort of signals am I looking for?
OK and one more problem... sorry I am being overly needy today!!When messing with the tcon, I managed to tweak the little 1" x 1.5" ribbon cable that attaches the TCON to the screen. Probably need to get a new one, but can't find a part number. Anyone have any idea what this part number is, and / or a good online shop that might have a replacement?
Thanks!!

Re: Sony KDL46z4100 red hazy picture
Hi all! It seems from other posts that this is quite the popular problem to have right now! It also seems that TCONs are basically impossible to find without paying ~$200!
I did find an advertisement on ebay for a guy that does circuitboard (specifically said he does TCONs) repair for ~$50. Does anyone have any experience with repaired boards? In light of the fact that we can't find a simple modular replacement, would this be a decent way to go?
Thanks!

Re: Sony KDL46z4100 red hazy picture
Awesome all, thanks for the input and also for inputting that you are having similar problems. It sucks, but at least we can all cry together...
Also looks like the TCON market is about to get tighter. If you all end up getting them before me and find that it fixes the problem please let me know. If I get one, I'll do the same!!
Thanks again!!

Re: Sony KDL46z4100 red hazy picture
If you are willing to look at it further, I have posted pics of the tcon board.
Understood that I could just order the tcon and be done, but I am enjoying learning about this, so thanks for teaching me!...

Got it right here attached tom66!! Thanks for your response and please let me know if you need anything else to help diagnose!
Sevenqi, you are suggesting that this is a TCON problem? I actually hope that's not the case because I looked at a few websites to see if there were parts available and new ones are out of stock... not sure if I am really excited about buying a used one!...

Re: Sony KDL46z4100 red hazy picture
Hi, thanks for the response!
I have attached pictures of the backside panel along with close ups of the components. I didn't take a close up of the tcon board, but it's just like the one at this link
If I can give you any more information to help narrow down what the problem might be, happy to post as many more pics as required!
Thanks again!!Re: Sony KDL46z4100 red hazy picture

Sony KDL46z4100 red hazy picture
Hello all!
Last night I was watching a movie on my Sony KDL46z4100 and midway through the movie the picture coloring went 'dark'.
- Didn't touch any settings
- Was watching the movie through the XBOX, but the problem persists even with other inputs / when the XBOX is turned off
- Yellow looks orange, Orange looks red, people look orange / red, whites look more gray / dark, blues look purple... etc...
- Tried to play with the settings to turn up all brightness settings. Even at max everything looks very dark
- Didn't hear any 'popping'...
