I know my Sony's T-Con is bad...but what else?

I've got a Sony KDL-V5100. It very suddenly (soon after turning it on today), displayed colored vertical lines on the left side of the screen...as seen in the first pic.
When I press the menu button, the lines change to a wider pattern...as seen in the second pic.
I removed the back to check to see if the ribbon cables were seated correctly and everything looked fine, so I removed the T-Con...as seen in the third and fourth pic.
The back if the T-Con revealed the culprit...as seen in the last pic.

My questions are:
Is this a result of something else that may need to addressed?..or is it safe to assume that whatever that little part is that burned up (I'm assuming some kind of tiny fuse) is the failure point. In other words, something like the main board or power board wouldn't cause this fuse on the T-Con to blow...would it?

I've searched for this part with the number shown in the third pic (46NN_MB4C4LV0.7) and I'm not finding anything. I believe it to be part # LJ94-029374...can someone please confirm the part number? The number on the sticker on the inside of the TV is LTY460HF07.

Are there substitute parts?

To replace the t-con the set should work. If not then the panel is bad, not repairable.

my friend got service manual in romanian how can you repair panels "its not imposible" because some trace fail and you need to make some other trace

If that component on the t-con failed, it could be because the panel went bad. Whilst not always impossible to repair some panel faults like tab bond issues, it's sometimes impossible. And things like corroded ribbons, burnt traces on the ribbons, cut ribbons? Not repairable at all.

Looks to me like an MLCC capacitor. They usually fail short circuit, like what probably happened here. My guess is that it could be partially shorted, pulling down a voltage rail and causing the screen to display a whacky image. However, it is just a guess...

How would a bad panel cause an MLCC capacitor to short?

Could have shorted a low voltage rail to a high voltage one (3.3V to 15V for example.) That would be rare though.

I bought a used T-Con on EBay that should be here this coming Wednesday.

The heat sink system on this board looks like junk. 1/8" thick thermal pads connected to a thin aluminum shield?...really? If these chips get anywhere near as hot as some of my graphics card chips, there's no way this heat sink system is good for the long haul.

Has anyone ever modified the heat sinks on these boards with some decent heat sinks like some that I can salvage from old computer parts. Then install them with thermal paste or high-end thermal tape that's not 1/8" thick? Maybe even add a small fan.

You could possibly use a heatsink that is off of a motherboard south bridge or north bridge. You will need to secure the heatsink so it won't come loose or slide off.

Bud is that a Westinghouse? Im literally working on one right now that looks like yours. The picture would scramble randomly, but it's been running for awhile now with the cover open. I just got done putting some of that tab bond material you recommended on the large IC which seems to get the hottest and closed it back up. I don't think I have a heat sink that will clear the main and power board box.

Yes, the picture will start rolling and scramble after warm up, that heat sink fixed last about a year, then the T-CON board finally gave up.

Ive had it running for about 2 days with the cover off with no problem. But when I got it back initially it happened fairly quick. The whole panel on this TV gets really hot, then everything gets enclosed tightly in metal. I was thinking of throwing a small fan in there but not much room where it's really needed.

That's exactly what I meant.

The present heat sinks are passive...no fan...I'm thinking about adding an exhaust fan just outside the area of the T-Con.

I might use a usb powered fan: USB Fan.

I guess it would be OK to run that fan (it's 5V) off of the TV's usb port all the time???
