Re: I know my Sony's T-Con is bad...but what else?
That's exactly what I meant.
The present heat sinks are passive...no fan...I'm thinking about adding an exhaust fan just outside the area of the T-Con.
I might use a usb powered fan: USB Fan.
I guess it would be OK to run that fan (it's 5V) off of the TV's usb port all the time???Re: I know my Sony's T-Con is bad...but what else?

Re: I know my Sony's T-Con is bad...but what else?
I bought a used T-Con on EBay that should be here this coming Wednesday.
The heat sink system on this board looks like junk. 1/8" thick thermal pads connected to a thin aluminum shield?...really? If these chips get anywhere near as hot as some of my graphics card chips, there's no way this heat sink system is good for the long haul.
Has anyone ever modified the heat sinks on these boards with some decent heat sinks like some that I can salvage from old computer parts. Then install them with thermal...

I know my Sony's T-Con is bad...but what else?
I've got a Sony KDL-V5100. It very suddenly (soon after turning it on today), displayed colored vertical lines on the left side of the screen...as seen in the first pic.
When I press the menu button, the lines change to a wider pattern...as seen in the second pic.
I removed the back to check to see if the ribbon cables were seated correctly and everything looked fine, so I removed the T-Con...as seen in the third and fourth pic.
The back if the T-Con revealed the culprit...as seen in the last pic.
My questions are:
Is this a result of something else that may...

Re: Abit AA8 Bad Caps...replacement advice needed
The new HZ's came in...the KZG's came off...the new HZ's went on...the board went back in the case aaaand it posted right out of the gate! I stress tested the cpu and memory for a 12 hrs each...no problems at all. I even managed a little overclock.
It looks like my kiddo's gonna get a new rig (or hand-me-down rig) after all.
Thanks for the help, folks!!

Abit AA8 Bad Caps...replacement advice needed
Hello all,
I stumbled across this forum a couple of days ago...good stuff.
I've got an old Abit AA8 that's acting up for no apparent reason. It's covered in mostly Rubycon caps, but there are (7) KZG caps on it. Of the (7) KZG caps, (3) are obvioulsy bad (bulging tops).
The (3) bulging caps are like the first two photos. (They have a 3O on one side of them)...I believe that is the letter O and not the number 0.

These next two photos are of some of the others that don't...
