37" Vizio VX37L Keeps Turning off

I have a 37" vizio VX37L that keeps turning itself off when I turn it on.
So plugged in, with vizio amber light in front, I press the power button, amber light turns white and the tv turns on. About 3 seconds laters the TV turns off and the vizio led in front goes back to amber.

I'm measuring 4.63V on the PS_ON, when it turns on.

I'll post up photos of the main board, and info on the regulators in a bit.

So I found a total of 13 regulators on the main board.

Also I'm getting 4.63V for PS_ON, is that high? Isn't it suppose to be 3.3v? If it is, would the main board or power supply be causing it?

Are those voltages tested with the TV is turn on or in standby mode?

        Those readings are during standby.
With the TV turned on the readings are:

I think those readings are good.... I don't know anything about DU1, 7805CT but I'm going with my gut feeling that its not the problem... ugh another unsolvable one..

I've been searching on google for a similar problem and found this
          http://www.justanswer.com/tv-repair/...ue-screen.html

Its stating that this problem is caused by a bad LCD panel?? Is that even accurate at all?

Re: 37" Vizio VX37L Keeps Turning off

It is just the 5V regulator. So the voltage readings when TV is ON are also OK.

Disconnect the side button board if possible and see if it still turns off.

Re: 37" Vizio VX37L Keeps Turning off

I noticed a blue LED diode on one of the inverter board that lights up bright and slowly fades off when the TV turns on. I've never seen this before, is it possibly indicating a problem with the inverter board, or a possibly a bad ccfl lamp? That would explain the reason for assuming a bad lcd panel from the link i put in post #5.

Re: 37" Vizio VX37L Keeps Turning off

Dissassembled everything, checked CCFLs and they all seem good and working...

The problem again with this TV:
TV powers on fine, shows a blue screen with the no signal message, and then shuts off. While the TV is on, I cannot get the OSD menu open or change any inputs on the tv or with the remote. It just only says "No Signal" (With this fact I'll assume a bad main board...?)

The guy I got it from said itll only stay on if theres a source hooked on it and itll shut off to save power if theres no input. (I thought that was just BS) but he hooked on the hdmi and actually got it to play a picture, so i bought it.

So I tried hooking on both hdmi inputs but the tv won't even stay on. I have no idea what the hell the guy did...

But if this is in fact a bad lcd panel like "justanswers" stated then I guess itll going to be recycled, unless anyone else has an idea.

It does sound like bad main board if you cannot control it with the remote or buttons.

                        Bleh, main board problems...
Guess this one is a bust.

So I'm parting this one out on ebay. Even the main board, maybe someone else can get it and fix it for cheaper. If anyone needs any parts from a Vizio VX37L just let me know.

                          I just found the problem.
It seems with these vizio tv's whenever its on the RGB input, it will shut off when there is no signal input for it. Took me buying another main board to figure this out...

I found out that it will take about 15 seconds until the OSD menu and input menu will be accessible. However since it was on the RGB input it would shut off before the 15 seconds and thus i wasnt able to change the input at all. So I hooked on my laptop allowing the TV to stay on waited until i can open the menu and then was able to change the input. So about 15 seconds after the TV is turned on it will work perfectly, opening and closing the menus.

Using the new main board as soon as I turn on the TV I can access the menu immediately so this the main board is definitely at fault. I don't know the exact component causing the fault but at least the TV is perfectly usable with the old main board.

Oh but I thought you have no control at all from remote or buttons, and also does not work with HDMI source when you tried it:
"but he hooked on the hdmi and actually got it to play a picture, so i bought it. So I tried hooking on both hdmi inputs but the tv won't even stay on. I have no idea what the hell the guy did"

Thats true I didn't have any control at all from remote or button. It was only until the TV "warms up" after it turns on. But since it was initially on RGB it would always shut off before "warming up." and I wasn't able to switch to any other inputs. Thus the problem where itll be stuck with this loop...

I'm still not sure what the previous owner did. I swore I saw that hdmi cable, or maybe I was crazy and it was actually VGA. O.o

Thanks tieny, I was having the same shutdown problem with my vizio, was thinking on just trashing it. I had let someone borrow it for a few months and when I got it back it was doing just what you described. She must have hit the rgb button on the remote and figured it was broke. Anyway thank you, thank you, thank you fer that tip.

Thanks tieny. I'm having the same exact issue...my daughter kept trying to change the input to get the dvd player to work and in the process, must have hit the rgb button. I can't get the tv to stay on long enough to get to the menu to change the input. How exactly did you do it by connecting to the laptop/computer?

i think RGB is an error by the guy who posted it.

i think it's refering to the VGA connector.
