Re: 40" Sony LCD KDL-40EX500 Seconds to black (6 blinks)
Same issue. I pulled pin 14 from connector CN6402, labeled Dimmer. The Sony kdl-40ex501 came right up. No more 3 reboots; no more 6 blinks ... Awesome. Thx to tieny and budm. I had a great time trying to follow you both, and I understood enough to test the voltages on the board, and get to the solution. Are there any other downsides to disconnecting wire 14, besides dimmer functionality? Since this is part of the Protection system, what have I lost?

Re: 40" Sony LCD KDL-40EX500 Seconds to black (6 blinks)
hi
It too late to answer for this tv but i would like to get expert opinions
so check mytv.jpg kdl40ex500
1-If the tv is ok with cut dimmer wire why not try to put
a manual dimmer control 1v to 3v with a 1k pot or a small
regulator for low output impedance from the 5v or 12v.
for all the solutions with a tv (not this one) is it possible to do:
2-with bl-on cut put a jumper with 100 ohm between power-on and bl-on to force inverter board
3-with bl-err cut force a good condition err
thanks :-)Leave a comment:

Re: 40" Sony LCD KDL-40EX500 Seconds to black (6 blinks)
Awesome thread, saved me hours of troubleshooting probably.
THANKS!
Removed DIM wire and it stays on.
Btw, the PWM frequency is 150 Hz and the duty cycle is stuck at 5% (350us positive pulse width).
Funny thing, while re-running the initial setup, the duty cycle increases to the currently adjusted backlight setting. Must be some firmware problem maybe. After the setup has finished it returns back to 5%.Leave a comment:

Re: 40" Sony LCD KDL-40EX500 Seconds to black (6 blinks)
To anyone looking for the Dim Control Wire, I have posted a photo of the wire I had cut which resolved the issue with my EX400 stuck in a power cycle loop and receiving 6 Blinks. Please note that the backlight will run at full brightness when this wire is cut. Good luck!Leave a comment:

Re: 40" Sony LCD KDL-40EX500 Seconds to black (6 blinks)
hello coofhair
bad transformer sure kills fet and also may kills driver ic
about ccfl lamps u can test it out of tv with inverter of old scanner u have to see
it.s light one by one u will find one or 2 lamp have dark area besides
it.s contact with ht (about 1200v)
and there is many tools exist online to test ccfl lamps and transformers
resolding components besides fet and transformers coz overheating in this area also make sure carefully about
bad caps which it.s value in pf and high voltage as i wrote before it.s connected to transformers
finally
about sony from my experience i guess u have bad lamp
hope this will help

@amro eid - Thank you very much your ardour, all that you share to userful for me, i've understood what's important of that proplem, Don't be fix it without Ovp
You're Egyptian? your English is very good, and my is so bad i can't write here to more what i think by english hihi
I don't understand really, can you help me, exlain to me more. If i remove protect pin 20, and my tv have bad lamp then turn on tv, transformer works, back light works. What is it to kills Fet, IC or burns transformerLast edited by coofhair; 05-02-2014, 11:43 AM.Leave a comment:

Re: 40" Sony LCD KDL-40EX500 Seconds to black (6 blinks)
hello
u want to remove proctect Pin
connect pin pin 20 to ground directly
the tv will work and u will see the real reason which made this problem
bad lamp or bad contact to one lamp or bad transformer or something else like bad caps in pf and high voltage
but please pay attention
it is very important
we remove protection to fix the real reason and after that we we connect
it if u remove it and deliver it to your customer the tv will back to u
u will find big problem burning, dead fet ,dead ic .etc and then u will need i/p board
any way i think u have bad lamp inside this is common fault
in sony and sharp
hope this may help

Re: 40" Sony LCD KDL-40EX500 Seconds to black (6 blinks)
hello
this is backlight problem
open ur inverter u have SSI091ASN inside
the solution is
SSI091ASN No datasheets available...but probably
Pin 4 is grounded.
Pin 5 is error out.
Pin 6 may be Vcc. ( Check voltage on this pin.)
Pin 7 is VREF. (Probably 1.2V, 2.5V or 5V.) * jest 5,5V
Pin 13 is grounded.
... pin 20 is OLP (Open lamp protect. Should normally be low.)
(PIN 19 ) ill be 0.01V when the backlights go on.
When It'll raise up to 1.96V steady THEN the TV actually stays on and works
Have 24 pins. Top of the chip left to right, 1 - 12 and bottom of the chip, right to left is
the tv will work ok and then u will see the bad lamp u can replace
and test with ur finger the hot of transformers
if one going so hot than other u have to replace this transformer
but i fix the same problem with the way above coz CCFL circut was sensitive
to bad lamp my tv was KLV-32BX35A.
hope successLeave a comment:

Re: 40" Sony LCD KDL-40EX500 Seconds to black (6 blinks)
Hi guys,
I'm late to the party, but just got one of these in the shop and here is what I did.
It seems that when the duty cycle of the backlight control goes too low (around 10%), it causes an error and the inverter board shuts down.
I replaced R007 (was a 10k) with a diode (cathode,bar, facing towards C008). Then I added a 1 meg resistor in parallel with C008).
This stretches the pulse just long enough to keep the duty cycle high enough to not cause an error. The advantage of this "fix" is that the backlight control still works (verses totally disconnecting the dim control).
Hope this helps someone.Leave a comment:

Re: 40" Sony LCD KDL-40EX500 Seconds to black (6 blinks)
So that problem is actually on the main board?
I'm going to leave it as it is, don't really use the backlight/brightness settings anyway.
Thanks for the help!Leave a comment:

I would use it the way it is unless you want to dig deep into troubleshooting the main board PWM signal section somewhere on the board.Leave a comment:

Putting back the old inverter board, its still works perfect without the dim connectedLeave a comment:

Re: 40" Sony LCD KDL-40EX500 Seconds to black (6 blinks)
But this is new inverter board (unless it is also bad) which receives the command signal from the main board to dim the backlights, so what ever that pin does it must cause the IC to turn on. How about putting the old board back in and see if the lamps will stay on with the DIM wire not connected.Leave a comment:

Re: 40" Sony LCD KDL-40EX500 Seconds to black (6 blinks)
From post #129, when I'm probing at that pin on the main chip on the inverter it fixes the dimming problem. Wonder is there a way to simulate that?Leave a comment:

by maudaI'm currently working on repairing a malfunctioning Sony TV model KD-65XE7005 with the mainboard 1-981-926-21. I would appreciate your assistance with this issue.
Upon powering on the TV, the Sony logo appears for approximately 3 seconds, after which the backlight remains lit, the screen remains black, and nothing else happens. The TV consumes around 55W initially and then drops to 35W. The indicator LED remains solid white. It doesn't respond to the remote control. When attempting to update the TV using a USB dongle, the dongle briefly flashes but nothing else happens.

by tec3000Hi community! Germany calling
I am wondering if you guys can help me out. I have an issue with my Sony LED TV. I've been told this is a good place to ask. Thanks for anyone who will reply and offer advice. Appreciated!
I have a KD-65X9005A Sony 4k LED TV. For a few weeks I've got this problem where I turn on the TV and within a few seconds the TV starts getting darker until it shuts itself off and I get the 4 blinking error code. HOWEVER there is one exception: Whenever I switch to the i-Manual, a full screen on-screen instruction manual, the TV never turns off. I tested for hours!... -
by AK_777Hi everyone!
I have a Sony KD-65A1 TV with a fault – 4 red LED blinks. After disassembly and visual inspection, I found that the G76 power board and DKA board had been replaced. It is also possible that TCON was replaced, but I am not sure – there are a few marker marks that could be factory-made.
Based on assumptions, the previous service attempted to solve the issue by replacing potentially faulty components. I decided to investigate further, found a service manual, and figured out a way to power up the power supply unit autonomously and put the OLED panel and... -
by jchonHi I'm new to trying to repair TVs, but I saw a broken OLED offered for a reasonable price and thought I'd try my hand at it.
I found the service manual, which was critical to know where to probe.
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/20...1e-Series.html
With it I was able to determine that my DKA board was bad, when P_ON#1/2 gets enabled REG_12 on the DKA board collapses. I'm assuming one of the downstream regulators has a short, but I couldn't work out which rail/component and replaced the DKA board entirely.
Unfortunately the 5-blinks... -
by NicktronicHi all,
I have the subject TV and it will work normally sometimes but suddenly go black and give the 2 red blinks blink code. When this happens, I check the power supply board voltages and all I have is the Standby 3.3V and BL_ERR 2.2V. When it's working normally, all power supply board voltages look normal and stable. I've checked the backlights with a tester and they all test good. I've also read that the 2 red blinks is a faulty power supply board, so could it be throwing up an erroneous BL_ERR?
Any Sony experts out there that can help??... - Loading...
