Sony XBR-65X850D 2 Red Blinks

Hi all,

I have the subject TV and it will work normally sometimes but suddenly go black and give the 2 red blinks blink code. When this happens, I check the power supply board voltages and all I have is the Standby 3.3V and BL_ERR 2.2V. When it's working normally, all power supply board voltages look normal and stable. I've checked the backlights with a tester and they all test good. I've also read that the 2 red blinks is a faulty power supply board, so could it be throwing up an erroneous BL_ERR?

Any Sony experts out there that can help??

2 blink is power supply and most likely not doing bl err because that would give 6 blinks.

Ok, so the BL_ERR is a false positive. So straight up, replace the power supply then?

Oh, so power or main board. Expensive troubleshooting....

What is the LD board? LED Driver? This Sony doesn't have that...

Yes usually the manual will have several tvs on there at once so 55/65/75 all in one so it encompasses all the tvs.

I would wait for more comments here. So when the error happens, you lose all 12v voltages etc right?

Yes, I lose everything except Standby 3.3V, and a BL_ERR 2.2V

Hey, so new information....I found a copy of the service manual and the 2 blinks troubleshooting steps identify the Main Board as being the issue. The attached photo shows the flow chart and I measured 12.67 V on both pins 11 and 13 of CN9000 on the main board (after power up, but before the 2 blinks error kicks off). Problem is, I can't find a Main Board to replace the faulty one. Does anybody have experience troubleshooting at board level? The 12V REG is a little high, so what could be causing that?

They are on ebay, quite expensive though. Or can send it for repair to nicks tv service I believe

Yes, very expensive. I spoke to Nick's TV repair, and they have never seen a main board be the cause of the 2 blinks. But, they said they would troubleshoot, but the cost is quite high because i'm in canada and the exchange along with shipping would be ungodly lol.

What is the actual voltage of the 12v REG, "a little high" isn't very helpful.

Yes if it's 12.67 like you say, that's not high it's totally fine.

The diagram says if it's under 13.2 then it's the g board. Which is your PSU. It's says it's 12v overprotection, which the PSU is supplying, so it would make sense that it would be the power board first. If your looking at main board tell us why.

The picture I put from the service manual says it's likely the power board or led driver, there is no LED driver so it's likely the power board. Second would be main board and blue dot means less likely

That is a more than symbol, if it is over 13.2V it's the G board.

Haha, yeah, I guess the point is the 12.67V is totally fine, so the Power board is good and the Main Board is triggering an overvoltage fault and shutting down the TV unnecessarily eh? Quite rare apparently.
