Samsung LNT3242H 32" LCD TV, no picture but audio works- no component damage

Sorry... I posted this in the wrong section before. I apologize. This should be the place to be.

    Hi all,

I've got a Samsung 32" LCD TV. While watching it one day, I switched channels and then hit the "last" button quickly, and the screen went black. Audio works great.

The testing I have done thus far:
    - After leaving tv on overnight (~7-10 hours), still no picture
    - After 24 hours unplugged, still no picture
    - Shining flash light on screen in dark room shows no hint of image on screen
    - No back lighting around edges of screen in dark room
    - No apparent bulging or leaking capacitors or burnt components

    Model: LNT3242HX/XAA
    Series: AH6S3CHP309942H
    Version: PP01

A service manual, or any additional input would be greatly appreciated. I'd rather try fixing it before giving it up (it is 5 years old, so rather than pay to have it repaired, we'd rather get a new one later down the road). I'd like to save it because I hate to add to the landfill... but, if there's no chance, then I'll guess I'll have to.

    Any suggestions are welcome.

What are the voltages coming out of the power supply with respect to the legend.

      Hi DRPJ23,

Here are images of the legend on the back panel of the tv and also the label on the power board (blue & brown wires are connected to power inlet on the back of the tv).

        Hi,

Do you have a multimeter? You will need to measure the output voltages coming from the power supply.

I wish I did. I don't have a meter to test the power supply.

I could probably swing by a store tomorrow and pick up a cheap one for $20 - or do you recommend any particular type?

Sorry that was vague, I meant if you could read the voltages that are coming out of the connectors
            Ex.
            Connecter CN52
            Pin 1 - STBY - 4.98V
            etc.

And for your purpose a general digital meter will suffice.

In your description, you describe a condition where you have no video information, no backlight, and good audio. This would not be common in a Samsung, but not impossible. Here is a simple test for backlight. In a darkened room, turn the set on, and GENTLY press on the LCD screen. You aren't going to use much pressure at all, just enough to slightly flex the screen. Look for any "lightening" of the black screen around where you are pressing. This will indicate good backlight. Some may recommend against this technique, but it is perfectly safe as long as you don't press too hard. I learned this from a Samsung tech rep. and it has never caused me any problems. If you still see no evidence of a backlight, then with the set on, press the "Menu" button. Quickly inspect the screen under a bright light, and look for any evidence of the menu before it goes off of the screen. Let us know what you find out.

Finally was able to check the power supply voltage.

I turned on the TV and checked the wires from the power supply to the main board, and from the power supply to the inverter.

I kept the wires plugged in from the main board to the power supply when testing with the multimeter. But I unplugged the wiring from the inverter to the power board and checked the pins on the power supply board because I couldn't get the multimeter leads close to the exposed wire to get a reading. Hope this helps.

It seems the differences might be enough to cause an issue. Can anyone confirm?

Also, I noticed that when I plug the tv in and turn in on (with the back cover removed), the only thing that lights up is the Optical Digital Audio Out Plug.

Should there be a light on that indicates that the panel works? In other Youtube videos I noticed that people can see a green light inside their tv when the panel lighting is working correctly. Perhaps it doesn't turn on because the power supply is bad?

Here is the attachment with the schematic voltages and my test readings.

Are the differences enough to cause an issue?

I notice that pin #3 to the main board should be a GROUND, but it shows 5.21V - how could this be?

Disregard the pin 3 reading, right now you are getting the correct voltage and signals feeding the inverter board so it should have backlights. We need good pictures of the inverter board as a whole and also in 1/4 sections. I believe the problem is on the inverter board.

Here are pics of my inverter board. There is a full board pic, 1/4 sections, and side view of the caps on the inverter board.

I can't find any obvious signs of component damage on the board. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for on the board that would be the cause of my "no picture" issue?

                      Thanks again for your help.

There are 3 fuses on this board (2 white and 1 black).

If those check out then test the resistance on your HV transformers and compare them to each other. If one is noticeably different in one reading then you have found your culprit.

There are 3 readings you can take and can compare amongst the others.

                          Hello,

I to am having the same problem. Tv turns on sound is fine, but no picture. I did notice from looking at the back of the screen through a little hole that the lights do turn on, but only for a couple seconds, and are very dim. You cant even notice them from looking at the front. All my voltages are very low if not zero. That is compared to the chart that I seen earlier in the thread. Any suggestions. Thank you

On the very first picture at the top of this thread is a pic of the power supply. I testes the black and 2 white "fuses" If thats what they are, and everything reads 12 volts excepth the black one. Could this be an issue?

Easily. It is a common fault on this inverter board. I have repaired the 37" and 32" of this inverter board.

The 3 fuses I was talking about are on the power supply board. Are those the 3 that are referred to earlier. The ones I tested were not on the inverter board. You can see them in the picture at the top of the thread. Thank you for any info. Should all three be reading 12 volts.

On both ends of each you should see 24V.
12V is too low, this inverter uses 24V.

Hey Michael I think Tom is referring to the surface mount fuses on the inverter. I've marked two of them in the attached photos. There may be more, look for F3 etc...

Ah I see. Yeah I did not test those fuses because the power running to the inverter from the power supply is not correct. I tested my power supply voltages and compared them to the chart in post #9 and all of them are either very low or zero volts. I really don't know a lot, but I am just trying to save my television. Do you know the three little squares in post #3 I was talking about 2 white one black. The two white ones read 12 volts but the black reads 12 on the side closest to the white ones, and on the other side of the black one closest to the power cord it only reads about 1.2 volts.

Samsung TV model UE50TU: rebooting, backlight, sound, but no picture
                                          by TR103
                                          Hi, I have a Samsung UE50TU with:
                                          - sound and backlight, but no picture
                                          - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds
                                          - it keeps rebooting
                                          - without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
                                          - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
                                          - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.

                                          - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel and with a jumpered...

Samsung UN60EH6000F Black Screen, Backlight and Sound Good. Power Cycle Returns Picture

I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and

                                          Hello all,

This is my first post, but long term lurker on the form learning as much as possible about these TV's. I was given this TV as due to a power outage of constant On/off of power to TV. The TV originally would just click on and off (Typical Reboot Cycle). I opened the back of the TV, and troubleshooted by taking the 96 pin LVDS off one at a time to see if I had a picture on either side. I finally fixed the reboot cycle by finding the error on the left side of the screen off connector CN 1301, and the TV would stay on. Further troubleshooting led me to the driver boards where...

                                          Hi friends,

a friend of mine gave me this TV to fix, with common SAMSUNG TV issue - damaged panel. Turning on, sound is present, but no picture. So I went directly to standard process, connecting two pads together with a wire ( see in the picture ), and then removing flex cables. With right flex connected, there was half screen working, but still no picture ( disappearing colors and similar weird stuff ) + working sound. With left flex connected, TV is restarting + working sound. I supposed, left side is damaged, so I then blocked all 8 CLK pins ( going from 0R resistors on the second...
