    Flat Panel TV Troubleshooting Stand

A few years ago I decided that I needed a universal stand that I could use for testing/troubleshooting flat panel TVs. I came up with a prototype that has proven extremely simple and useful. It is basically a TV easel, originally designed to handle TVs up to 50". I have worked on TVs as large as 70" with this stand, but I really need to make it a little larger. After a discussion with Tom66, I realized that the stand I have made could be useful or adapted by others who do a lot of TV repair. Please keep in mind that this was only intended as a prototype, so it is not very pretty, but too many entries on the "Honey-do" list have prevented me from rebuilding it. Maybe over the holidays . . .

The first 3 pictures are of the stand itself, the 4th shows it in use. Note how the TV sits at a convenient angle for taking measurements on the boards. In the background you can see the reflection of the TV picture in the mirror I use for viewing the front of the TV while troubleshooting it. The black covering on the bottom rails are pieces of automotive cooling hose, split and fastened in place with screws. This has proven to be the ideal non-slip surface. I have never had a TV slip or fall off of this stand, so it is pretty stable.

It looks very nice and definitely useful. Thanks for posting! I am trying to think of something to repurpose to make into a stand like that. I am not a very good woodworker.

Thanks for the idea, I may build one too. I will add removable cross bar at the bottom (where the two legs spread out, so it forms a triangle with cross bar in place) so the bottom edge of the TV will not slip down.

Threads about 18 months old there bud..

But I hadn't seen this thread before either and often thought about doing something similar. However my idea involved using a hanging frame that attached to the VESA mounting holes. Too complex so it never got built, lol. This one seems about my speed.

Haha, the "bud" in my response above was the generic bud and intended for mmoore. What are the chances budm would wedge himself in between ?

                      no that's a great idea.
and very easy with some welding.

2 sections of steel box-tubing welded to a baseplate with a crossbar or 2 between them.

VESA holes in the crossbars or verticals.
maybe even both - wide VESA on the verticals, small VESA on a pair of crossbars.

This one is a universal flat screen TV repair table. Not as simple as the one shown by randtec but very handy.

I know this post is a bit old but was wondering if people might like to post a picture of what they use for a TV repair stand. I am way over do for making one and would like to see some ideas.

LG 49UJ6500 LCD panel lighter band that goes away
                            by howardc64
49UJ6500 LCD panel has a lighter band on top when first powered on. Goes away (or gets much fainter) after TV on for a few min. After powered off for awhile and power back on, same band appears. If powered on immediately after powering off, no or much fainter band. Running the latest firmware.

Disassembled the TV and lifted the LCD panel during testing. Band is on the LCD panel (can see the band on the panel as I lift it slightly) Backlight is perfectly even at the top edge. Double checked LCD panel alignment in the frame and is perfect but since band moved with the panel, its on...

SAMSUNG UN50TU8000F rebooting, backlight ok. No 12v to panel boards.
                            by triplefour
TV flashes backlight then reboots over and over. no image. Client said it used to have image for a bit before rebooting. Got worse over time.

                            tcon is built into mainboard.
Only one cable goes to panel boards.
there is a cable from one panel board to the other that links them.
cost cutting measure that results in us having harder time to diagnose.
removing the link to the second panel board allows TV to stay on with stable backlight but no image.
used cut off tape method to mask 1 maybe 2 pins on the side of the cable that goes to that second panel board....

                            by Storyteller12
I had a the above tv qn55q60r that had a bad panel but everything else good. I had another panel here from un55nu6900 with bad leds and melted diffusers.

I put the nu6900 panel in and powered it up and it does work but there are lines vertical lines.

I was trying to change the panel type in the service menu but don’t see my exact panel. Anyway to fix this or someone have similar experience.

the clear picture is the panel type from the service menus on the nu6900. The other 1 is the panel type that was set for the q60r with the bad panel....

Missing LCD Panel Voltages VGH, VGL, VCOM (TCL 55P6US Sound & Backlight but NO Picture)
                            by maneatingmonkey
I have a TCL 55P6US with sound and backlight but no picture. This model does not have a T-CON board, and the right (rear perspective) panel board is fed from the left panel board. I have not been able to induce any change by disconnecting the secondary panel board or the tape cut-off method on the primary board.

There are a bunch of voltages missing on the panel boards. I can't find any shorted caps of the panel boards, and all of the missing voltage rails read in the kiloohms, which leads me to suspect the issue may lie on the circuit board, rather than a short in the panel.
