When I remove the component off the board, I will add more solder to the pins while rocking on the part to remove it off the board, then I use solder sucker to remove the solder later.
I took the board off and put the caps on it. I also found alot of bad solder on it. I touched up the spots that didn't look right. But it still does the same thing. Althought it seems to take less heat to start or that could be wishful thinking. So I'm going to pull it back off and touch it up again. There are some surface mount parts on it that I didn't do. I'll try to touch up all of them.
The desolder iron I got works pretty good. No instructions but not hard to figure out.
The pics are as close as I can get. But you can still see some of the bad solder.
After touching up the board again I'm now getting nothing. I've found a broken power switch on the main supply. The set went dead due to over heating. The person I'm looking at it for let the back get completely plugged. The markings are gone from the switch but the one on the sink next to it is a Fairchild KA5L0365R. So I think that is the numbers. I have a KA5L0565R and a KA5M0380R. I've looked at the datasheets and they are close. Can I try one of these? If not or it doesn't work I'm going to get another board from shopjimmy.
I've checked the manual it doesn't it. I'm sure about the numbers. There are three heat sinks on that side of the board. There is a 365 on one end of the other two.
I now have a problem with the Va. I have 70v at the test point on the board and the plug next to it. At the next plug I only get about 15v. Which parts should I be testing first or the most likely to be the cause? Thanks
My reading was wrong in my other post. I haven't worked on this for a while so have not updated. I think the PS is fixed. I've found a bad lower buffer IC. Can the PS cause this or did the PS cause the main to short then the buffer? Also what's holding the heat sink on the IC? I haven't tried to get it off yet. The lower buffer tested 51.5 ohms and the upper tested 125.6 ohms.
The heat sink came off OK. I can get the ic but I"m not going to attempt a repair with out a heat gun or better still a hot air station. So this thing is on hold for now.
