Re: 42mf231d/17 works when heated
The heat sink came off OK. I can get the ic but I"m not going to attempt a repair with out a heat gun or better still a hot air station. So this thing is on hold for now.

Re: Cleaning electronic equipment
Didn't relize the trouble grime could cause. I have a y-main that has spongy sticky pads between it and the panel. The heat caused something in the pads to leach out over the board and leave a sticky mess. Now I know how to clean it. More good info from Badcaps....

Re: 42mf231d/17 works when heated
My reading was wrong in my other post. I haven't worked on this for a while so have not updated. I think the PS is fixed. I've found a bad lower buffer IC. Can the PS cause this or did the PS cause the main to short then the buffer? Also what's holding the heat sink on the IC? I haven't tried to get it off yet. The lower buffer tested 51.5 ohms and the upper tested 125.6 ohms....

Re: Samsung 50" Plasma HPT5044 No Picture
Maybe I didn't ask that right. I was just wondering what the volts should be at the middle fuse holder. I was just trying to narrow down where the problem might be. What you posted before will help when I get time to spend on it. When your work day is 12/14hrs. long it doesn't leave much time for anything esle.

Do a search for Panasonic 2 blink. You'll find lots threads about the 2 blink code.

Re: Samsung 50" Plasma HPT5044 No Picture
I know how to check the fuses with the power off. Both good. But what kind of reading would I get with the power on? How do I check what the volts going thru are? AC/DC? My thought is that this will help narrow down where the porblem is.

Re: Suspect Panasonic "D" Board - TH-46PZ80B
I'd pull the back just to make sure it's clean and give the cables a push. You may get lucky and not have to do more than that. I'm also like plasma better.

I found the following are reading short on diode test. The other VR's read ok. Can the VR be bad or would it be something else?...

Re: Samsung 50" Plasma HPT5044 No Picture
I'll put this here in case someone can use it. The 207v VS and the 63v VA are both very low. The VA is 4.3v and the VS is 0.013v. I've checked the esr on all tha caps but the 3 big ones. I've started rechecking the caps because now I can check the capacitance. I'll pull the big ones this time. The 4 fets on the center heatsink are new. I'll report back when I'm done checking them....

Re: Beckman Industrial 320B
I know that's why I'll just live with it. Looking at the screen isn't that bad.

Re: Beckman Industrial 320B
There's a good chance I'll end up with a hearing aid soon. With out the back it's loud enough. I could drill a hole the size of the beeper opening in the back and it would be fix it. But I'd rather not do that at this time. So I'll live with it for now. Unless I find a easy fix online.

Re: Beckman Industrial 320B
Is there a way to make the beep louder on the 115? I know my hearing isn't what it use to be. I hear the Beckman just fine but the 115 can't be heard a foot away.

Re: Beckman Industrial 320B
Checking a 9v and AA the Beckman is pretty much dead on.

Re: Beckman Industrial 320B
I bought a Fluke 115 today. SearsOutlet website listed a 115 at a store 20 miles from me over the weekend for $63.93. Said it was a floor model. Work gave me today off so I looked to see if it was still there. It was and now listed for $47.93. Got there and they had one unopened one hanging. After asking it turns out that was it. So $51.05 out the door. Don't need the detector, but it does do the loZ....

The Sperry was a cheap one that was given to me. It wasn't working and is now spare parts.

Re: Beckman Industrial 320B
I just squeezed them with my fingers. I had another z-strip from a non-working sperry meter I forgot I had. I think cutting the strip would have worked if I'd taken more time to think about how to cut it to size only one time. My first cut was too big and triming it was not good. So I'll save that fix should I have to do it again.

Re: Advice on choosing a multimeter
I was looking at the Fluke 115/117 today on the Sears outlet page. Not that I need a fluke but the prices were not bad.

Re: Beckman Industrial 320B
Well I got the Beckman to work the way it should. The fix was to remove the strips and reset them. I don't know how many times it took. The last time the numbers were there but jumpimg just a little. So I smacked the side of it on my hand. It stopped and now the readings are what they should be. ACV on the outlet is 120 +/-. Note to self and others. What those darn zebra strips.

Re: Beckman Industrial 320B
I got the strips working by bending them a little between my fingers. I guess that could cause the bad readings. I'm checking it against the cheap cen-tech. The cen-tech reads 120v +/-. Beckman reading 154v +/-. I wonder if I could find the strips in something with an older lcd in it. Maybe a radio or something, just a thought.

Re: Beckman Industrial 320B
I got the LCD to work. But something isn't right. ACV isn't reading right at all. I'm thinking the contacts in the knob may need cleaned. It wouldn't hurt to change the strips either.
