Bud m, c44 is an electrolytic on its side, small one, 25v 47uf. But I can see why you'd say otherwise, just a bad picture.

Ok - so its the RED or Reddish one. They dont often fail or else they fail dramatically. and split.
It doesnt even look bulged - have you found/tested the Bridge Rectifier yet?
They often fail and take out the fuse.

Bridge rectifier, if it is, tests bad, it reads in same in both directions which based on my very limited knowledge indicates its bad. What else would it take out when it went?

Usually that's it, damage is limited to the bridge. They die from heat, age, and voltage spikes.

Ok so I replaced the bridge, replaced bulging caps, and popped a new fuse in. What did I get? Fireworks! Got some sparkage at the main switch and a glowing red light, at least its more than I had the first go around. When I push the power button it flashes 3 times and nothng. I pulled the board and had another look, noticed R1 burned up not sure what the value was cause I can't read it! Anyone wanna jump in?

Check for 5Vstby, then post a picture of the main board and check the two buck converters on it.

You might want to try and rig a light bulb in place of the fuse for further tests.

Has R1 totalled or can you clean it at all with isopropyl alcohol
-sometimes the color rings are still on the bottom side?

Can you post a pic showing where it was on the board?

R1 is a surface mount on the baskside. I'll mess about with it when I get some coffee in me.

I have this, the source is reliable but will depend on whether I asked the
correct question so If we can get a second opinion from somewhere.

Didnt really need the second opinion - this is one of the reasons we ask for
                                good clear pictures.

Will have to wait for Budm or some circuit wizard to make a guess as to why it might have blown.

also double check the new capacitors are fitted the right way round mistakes can happen.

Caps are in the right way, I did not replace all of them, just the noticeably bad ones. Here's some more damage I just noticed, one of the 2 resistors I asked about originally popped. I can't tell if they are resistors or fusibles since they tested like fusibles.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                                            Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

                                            Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply

I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
