I finally got this unit to display a picture. I bought a used main board from an auction site. I've checked all power supply voltages and found them to be correct. I've also tried a different T-con board, But the picture still looks like this. I'm still thinking the main board is at fault. The picture also has a mirror effect, Like its taking the bottom of the screen and inverting it to the top. I would like to know what commonly fails on the mainboard and replace that particular component . Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Toshiba 42rv530u picture problem
Do you have a bigger picture of the problem? It looks like a failed memory IC, does it affect the OSD/interface too?
If the board you bought wasn't taken from the same model, or the model it was taken from used a different LCD panel, it's possible it needs to be reconfigured using the service menu, if available.Last edited by tom66; 04-03-2012, 08:27 AM.Please do not PM me with questions! Re: Toshiba 42rv530u picture problem
Not sure why you have started a new thread? - we are still going to need
decent pictures of the main board front and back and a close up of the
eeprom so tom can point out the pins to short to reset it.Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

Re: Toshiba 42rv530u picture problem
All inputs do the same thing. The menu displays funny as well. When I checked the firmware version it said - 4.2.40.0. Xv540u 4-7-2008. Is that model listed the problem? How would I reconfigure it? Thanks for the help!Comment

Re: Toshiba 42rv530u picture problem
That model number certainly could be causing the problem.
To enter service mode:
Set volume using RC to zero.
Press MUTE twice then release it.
Hold MUTE down.
While holding MUTE press MENU.
Important information from manual - probably relevant to your problem: "Whenever using new MAIN PC board to the set, set the SET-ID data according to panel option data."
Manual is here:

Re: Toshiba 42rv530u picture problem
Going into the service mode rendered my original mainboard useless, I mistakingly changed a setting in there and it the set would not turn on. I need to be absolutley sure what to change in there next time. Can you give a little more detail on what to do in that menu? Thanks. Please do not PM me with questions! Re: Toshiba 42rv530u picture problem
Yes, They say they will refund. Is finding a replacement at a reasonable price going to be a hassle? Thats why I'm trying to learn about component replacement for this particular board. Seems all the available boards are refurb or rebuilt, So that leads me to believe that components are available to correct the fault. Thanks Tom66Comment

Re: Toshiba 42rv530u picture problem
There seems to be four EEPROM chips on the back of the board. 24c02wp is the number on them.Comment

Re: Toshiba 42rv530u picture problem
Thanks Tom66! I followed the service manual to get the parameters set. The tv came to life for about fifteen minutes then started to do funny things again. The picture is no longer fuzzy though. Still getting the inverted image. I checked voltages on the power supply, They are all correct while unit is powered up. Any idea what component may be failing on the main board? Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic... -

by huj3rHi there!
I have a Sony Bravia KDL-40Z4500 which shows a colored vertical stripes pattern when turning on, with a central black shadow that slowly dissipates within the first 10 seconds.
Photo of the situation after the black shadow dissipates:
After this behavior the red LED will blink 9 times, then pause for a bit, and blink again 9 times, in a loop.
I checked the manual (available here) and this corresponds to "HFR error", quoting from the manual:
> This indicates HFR Communication error. [ HFR Communication... -
Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....-
