    Samsung LN46C630 LCD Backlight Problems

I have a backlight issue with a Samsung LN46C630 LCD TV. At first, whenever I changed channels the backlight would start flickering. This would happen when the screen went black and then an image came back on. I also noticed I could get it to stop flickering by changing channels again which would change the screen to black and then back. I noticed that it wasn't just the source that was flickering. When I hit the menu button, that would flicker as well. At this point I figured it was a backlight issue. Over the course of the next few weeks, it become unable to be fixed by changing the channel or source. I then went into the menu to find the backlight control. It was set to a relatively high level (16/20). So I backed it back down to a lower level and the flickering went away. I was able to step the control higher to get a brighter picture as well, but once the screen went to black from either a channel change or switching to commercials, the flickering started again. At this point I lowered the backlight to zero. For the next two weeks or so, this resulted in no issues with the flickering, although the image was much dimmer. But then the flickering started again. I noticed that it was more apt to flicker after the screen had been on for a few hours.

I did some research online (spent some time lurking up here for about a month) and noticed that there had been a lot of capacitor issues with samsung over the past few years. I took the back off and took off the power panel to examine the capacitors on there. I don't see any physical issues with it, and after looking to where the inverter board connects to the power board, I'm really unable to determine where my issue might be coming from. I'm an electrical engineer and have access to tools and parts to fix the boards, but without schematics and any experience with these boards I'm ill prepared to determine the cause of the backlight issue. It looks as though the power board isn't providing enough current to the inverter board.

    Thoughts?

Here is a picture of the board. The inverter plugs into the two upper right connectors. The side connector looks like power and the top connector is some sort of control.

Also, the capacitors in the lower left corner are SANWHA WB 10V 1000uF. From other sites, it looks like those are usually the culprit. Is it possible they've failed and I just can't see any external damage?

I replaced the 10V caps, but no fix. I'll try replacing the 25V caps. It looks like those actually control the 12V. And the driver for the inverter board is a 12V driver.

What's the model of that IP-Board?
There should be an IP-xxxxxx model (like "IP-211135A") number printed somewhere, or a BN44-00xxxx part numer (for example BN44-00199A).
Sometimes, the BN44-number is on what looks like a serial number sticker, written as one blob (for example CN08BN4400199ASE38C3.....)

If you're lucky, I might have the whole schematic for it..

          part number is BN44-00341B

I thought i found a schematic on the internet somewhere. I've been out of town for work, so I haven't had a chance to mess with it since last week.

check that, I found sites that say they have the manual, but no real working links.

Elektrotanya has it. Select the manual by clicking on the blue down arrow. On the next page wait until 'Get Manual' appears in the lower right had quadrant, then click on that.

For a number of reasons, both health and personal, I will no longer be active on this board. Any PMs asking for assistance will be ignored.

Well, I'm wondering if this may be the trouble section:

                  http://imgur.com/cSSXv

CN803S, looks like it is the connector that goes to the inverter board. I don't have the board out of the TV at the moment, I'll double check later. But there appears to be 2 Caps and a varistor there. i'm wondering if any of them could be causing the CFFL lighting to flicker.

Also, I just noticed this yesterday. When I turn it off then go to turn it back on a few minutes later, it doesn't turn on right away. The light blinks then nothing happens. I have to hit the power button a few times before it turns on, then it just has backlight flashing.

I paid a little closer attention and here is the part of the power board circuit that controls the power that goes to the inverter board. http://imgur.com/1v9Z4

The connection is the CNI801 to the right. There's a second wire that comes out of that connector, I'm assuming the neutral wire, but it's not shown on the schematic. I'll try to get an o-scope on this later.

This will fix the flickering problem 100%
For Samsung LN46C630 and the LN55C630 model.my th flickered like a strobe.
All input modes and temporary relief from turning off and on.
Samsung forgot to clip a jumper on these models. It takes 10 mins to fix.
Take off back panel (remove all philips screws outer edge)
1 screw where inputs plug in.
With back panel removed look on motherboard that power plugs into.
There are little thin aluminium wires called jumpers that lay flat on the board.
Each one has a name. Look for "JP852"
Snip it with nail clippers so it doesnt touch anymore.
That's it! ****always unplug power suply before starting****
This will work 100% it is on the samsung msg board and i did it two 2 tv's

My buddy dropped his tv off this evening. I powered it up and put a movie on. Once it started flickering I took the back panel off and let it run till it started flickering again (about five minutes). I snipped the jumper (I've actually read a lot of reviews on this and they all said that it worked). The set is running in the basement right now with no problems so far.

I hope you realize that cutting the jumper defeat the LOW PFC Boosted Voltage protection circuit. The problem the real cause of the problem is due to bad PFC Feedback resistor network that drifted off the value.

                                    Hello All,

My Samsung LE52B620 started to have backlight flickering about a year ago, it would only last for about 10 mins and then the backlight would stay on.

about a month ago the backlight flickering is constant and does not stop.

I think it's a problem with the power supply board (BN44-00267b) or maybe the backlight is dying?

I checked and all the caps look to be fine.

I do not believe it is a problem with the mainboard, since I unplugged it from the power supply and the backlight came out but still flickers.

                                    Hi everyone!

Hope you're all having a great day, and thank you very much for stopping by and taking the time to read this post to help me with my parents' Samsung TV.

                                    My issue: No backlight.

                                    Model: QE82Q70RAT
                                    Type No: QE82Q70RAT

The TV was already serviced by Samsung once under warranty for the exact same issue, but six months after the fix, the backlight went out again. Now, Samsung is asking for nearly the same price as a brand new TV to fix this with the same 6-month guarantee.

So hopefully, I can fix this cheaper.

Samsung UE60KU6079 backlight okay mainboard responsive, no picture, no sound

                                    Hello everyone,
Ive got a UE60KU6079 on the workbench that is giving me some headaches trying to troubleshoot.
The previous owner stated that there had been white dots on the screen which from the description sounded like some lenses fell of the backlight LEDs.
He had opened the TV from the back, trying to get to the backlight, supposedly gave up, reassebled everything and gave the TV to me.
I expected the worst like ripped COF cables or a cracked panel but could not find anything like that yet.
Anyway I still fully expect that there has been something seriously damaged...

Symptom is dim backlight - this set came in with almost no backlight.

                                    Samsung UN55JU6500FX2A

1 - Replaced all backlight LED strips (set had lots of hours at level 20 backlight)
2 - Changed out what appeared to be a bad Q9102C on BN44-00807E - not shorted or burned but appeared to be open. I was able to read (with difficulty) the part number - however I may have misread it - Can someone confirm that this is indeed an AOD9N40.

Backlight improved significantly - about like it would be set to a level 3 or 4. Setting all the way to 20 seems to...
