Re: How Much are You Guys Paying for Broken TVs?

I'm just paying up 30 cents to a dollar a inch if they are plasmas a 30 to 50 cents.

Like you guys say hard to fix them. Some people aren't even willing to part with it for what I'm asking. Most recent one is one that was 6 years old I offered them 25 dollars for it, their reply was like wow we will just keep it.

Well have fun with that because not many people do what I am doing in my area.

I'm not going to ripped off nor do I think I am ripping them off, its a plasma parts are expensive for them. They wanted me to fix it I said 200 dollars above, then they told me what was wrong with it. They said it looked like a magnet went over the screen, so it was probably not really repairable.

I usually pay about 1.00 an inch. Recently I picked up a 55" Toshiba full 1080 that had a burned up inverter the guy was asking 200 I offered him 100 and then it cost 40 to repair. My wife has decided to keep this one. I get about 1 to 2 tv's a month so far 100% success rate.

The most taht I have paid is $125, but I try to keep it under $100. Most of them are around $50-$80. Though recently it slowed down the repair very much in LA area.

I usually will pay no more than $50.
I also will buy cracked screen models either to aid a repair on another tv (hey, $50 for all the parts (with a 90% chance they all work) is better than $70 for just one!) and I also part them out and sell.
But plasmas have not been my forte lately so I stay away from buying 2007 and younger but will always take a freebie.
I am currently working on 7 sets right now.

i dont think i paid more than $50 for any of them.
got many free esp when i explain cost of just a lcd/pdp to replace a busted screen.
tearing down about 30 nec lcd4000 right now.these were the ones busted by incompetant staff at the city auction.most of these were still perfect till the idiots broke half the lot.these came from dayton intl airport.
            otherwise i love these auctions.
where else can you score a mastr 2 repeater and 50 130w vhf spectra's for $100?

Definitely everyone's region is different. I think I live in the ideal location. I live in a small college town, and people tend to give everything away for free. Right now I have 5 TVs and 3 computer monitors in my garage that I need to work on, all were free. Occasionally someone will ask $5 which I'm more than happy to pay. But it all works out, this is more of a hobby for me. If I am able to repair the TV/monitor I usually give it away to a friend or family member in need. Occasionally I'll sell one, and only ask enough to cover the cost of parts. To me it's about the challenge of trying to find and fix the problem, not make money by selling the repaired TV.

Here in Virginia Beach, people think they are still gold with cracked screens and have a lot of "informed" people that research the INTERNET that claim its just a .99 bad capacitor, so they continue to ask $$$ for LCD/Plasma with it still not working. Just picked up a Samsung for parts, plasma PN51D with broken screen for 50 and they always start around 250.00 ++

Re: How Much are You Guys Paying for Broken TVs?

Within the last year, I paid about $15 - $30 for a set with a bad screen, if it comes with a remote. For a set that I think is fixable, anywhere from $40 for a 22 inch to $125 for a 40 - 52 inch. Some sets I have gotten for less because of the condition (dirty or some neighborhood 'tech' has worked on it and bought Radio Scrap caps for it). Lots of buyers in my area, many pay less. I try and be a bit more fair. I used to pay more in the past when sets were more expensive but the market is getting cheaper and its harder to resell when every weekend some store has a sale on a crappy brand and buyers use that low price for comparison. I only buy the better brands. And some sellers still think that their broken screen set is worth $300 - $400 just because they paid over a thousand for it a few years ago. It is just a hobby for me and I have big screen sets in every room that have been paid for by the sets I fix and resell.

When I assembled dreamcast I mistakenly fastened long bolt and It resulted in
                      cutting tiny trace.
This tiny trace(Total width of white coating is 5.5mm) is between R337,R343 and IC101 and it is covered with white coating in the below screenshot.

Firstly I tried to bridging tiny broken trace with my own eyes...But it is totally impossible..So a week ago, I ordered G1200 Digital Microscope and I magnified this tiny broken trace with it.

But It seems that It is really very tiny trace So I plan to order 0.1mm coper wire from aliexpress in order to bridging...

Resonator - quartz broken - how to find the same (same frequency) ?
                      by corrize
Hello, I have a Fujifilm hybrid camera with an issue : the time don't run. I set 12:00 and 3 min later, the same : 12:00
I saw an obvious root cause : a broken quartz (resonator). But with the box broken, I can't read the marking code. Probably : 464… or A64…
I found on the web a picture of the same camera board but with marking code very different. Probably : A7…5N
I'm searching another one for compare…
Do you have an idea or another way for find the frequency of this resonator please ?

AMD HD 5970 no post, no display, fan working
                      by BilleB0B1
                      Hi all ,

I'm currently looking for an AMD HD 5970 and bought one that was supposed to be in working condition.

It arrived with a broken fan and doesn't post or display anything. The fan is willing to spin despite being broken so I take it as a good sign. Depending on the motherboard it will beep or not and indicate there is an issue with the GPU.

I took it apart and the only thing I can see after a visual inspection is a discoloration below one of the ram module. I guess it overheated ?

I'm wondering if it is worth checking resistance/voltages...

Lenovo Yoga 710 15ISK, 80U00002US battery cable wire broken.
                      by emeskay
We have an Lenovo Yoga 710 15ISK that we use as a secondary laptop. To cut a long story short, around May 2023, while traveling, I connected the laptop into an electrical outlet that was already switched on. Something made a "pfft" sound and the laptop refused to turn on after that. After getting back home, I gave the the laptop for repair to an informal repair person. He replaced the adapter and an internal motherboard part, but after he returned it I noticed that the LCD did not look normal. Essentially, every alternate horizontal line on the screen had gone missing. The laptop was...

How can I test coil whether it is really broken or not?
                      by chth96
I have old game console which have connected to 220v outlet by previous owner and It is not able to turn on.

I checked continuity of fuse in PSU unit with a multimeter which is shown in the below picture with a orange circle around it, and It seems that fuse became open circuit.

I also found that as well as bulging capacitor, there is unidentified coil which has residue all over its surface

I want to replace this round black fuse and unidentified coil if it got broken.
