It is definitely worth watching. From the very first episode, it has the same pacing, action, plot twists, etc like "24". You won't hear Ashley Judd say

    "Damn it".

but she does kick butt like Jack Bauer.

The locations are also very well shot (mostly Europe) and colorful.

Like 24, check your brain at the door, and start the popcorn maker.

Sorry, one last comment before we go too far off topic, but you can also sense a bit of "Bourne Identity" in the show too with the European location shooting.

It depends on what had failed on your TV. Are you getting the screen glow but no pictures or you are not egtting any glow on the screen due to no backlights?

Have the same problem, have a white screen and can see some video, it almost looks like a negative picture. Any help would be appreciated, if I check the SMD's and they are bad, should I just get a new t-con board or try and re-solder new SMD's?

how did you get the backlight to work after you replaced the inverter and backlight with no results?

                  Re: 42PFL3704D/F7 No picture

I apologize for digging up this old thread, but since I am new here, I can't start my own until after I post this...

I am working on a 42PFL3704D/F7 with this same issue - powers on, backlight fires, no picture, but sound comes through. As it appeared that a new T-Con board should give a picture, I ordered one and installed it. The backlight flickered a few times, then turned on. Within a few seconds, it started smelling hot and before I could unplug it, it started smoking. I tried putting the old T-Con board, and it started getting hot as well, so I unplugged it. The backlight had flickered a couple times, but was not on solid yet.

I'm guessing I have a problem bigger than thee T-Con board, but I'm not quite sure where to test next. The power coming from the main power board to the inverters is +24V, and since the backlight fires ok, I think the inverters are probably ok. What else can I test without just ordering parts at random?

Again, I apologize if this should have gone in it's own thread. Now that I have met the quota, I can start a new one if that's the way it should be.

                    Re: 42PFL3704D/F7 No picture

This may not be worth fixing. The only reason I say this is because it would seem like two boards are failing you from what I hear. The Tcon board is getting smoked by another board. Replacing the Tcon board again would be about $25. The other board is either the main board or the power board. Each being about $60. These sets are now selling for $150 used. Unless you know component level troubleshooting, Id advise against it. So far, your swapping boards method tells me that you do not know component level troubleshooting.

                      Re: 42PFL3704D/F7 No picture

I can do some component-level troubleshooting with a little direction, but it seems like it's rarely worth the time anymore, and I don't have an oscilloscope or SMD equipment.

A $25 T-Con board is cheaper than spending much of my time troubleshooting, considering that board seemed to be the resolution for someone else with the same problem, so I took the gamble. If I could diagnose with some confidence which of the other boards or components is also causing issues, I would fix it. Cheaper than a new one, and there is nothing available used here.

I got my hands on a newer LCD (42PFL3704D/F7) that turns on and stays on, has audio, but no picture. I can see the light in the back turn on and the screen is illuminated but black.

Any idea where i can start on this? Thank you for any feedback in advance!
                        FIX

I looked at shop jimmy, there was a service Bulitin on part CMO 27- D026774 Backlight Inverter. It said Fuse 1 it is a .75A fuse was bad, I checked mine and it was blown, no obvious signs. These are located right in front of where the top red power wire bundle comes from the main board. the white one next to it read 0 Ohms, meaning it was good. The black one next to it (said 15 on it I think)was bad reading high Ohms. I ordered fuse PNF 10103 from Encompass, a replacement BacklightInverter board can be ordered PFN 10097. Fuse was about $4 , has to be soldered in. I'm going to try this, hope it is nothing else ..

I've had a similar problem with backlight (Seems like no picture but you can see it when you shine a flashlight on the screen) and thanks to the helpful advice on here, I found the issue. That little black fuse next to the 8a white one on the inverter board you were talking about sjanpb labelled 15 was the culprit.
Got one from mouser (I think $0.77 each or so P/N 576-0466, 750NR) installed it and it worked. I used a fast blow 63V 750mA SMD.
                          Hope this helps others.

I also just received a 42PFL3704D/F7 that turns on with a white screen and a horizontal bar down the left side, but you can vaguely make out the on-screen menu. I took the back cover off of it and after all the roaches scuttled away, I don't see any bulging caps, but I do hear a crackling sound coming from the 2 yellow and black transformers? on the power supply?

I plan to inspect the boards better soon, but for now just stating I would also be interested if any of the original posters could confirm what did (or didn't) work for their repair.
