    Re: 42PFL3704D/F7 No picture

Since no one chimed in to help me out i ordered a new T-Con. Replaced it and now the TV makes a high pitched buzzing noise as soon as i plug in the power cord.

Pretty sure they wouldn't tell you to get lost. They are not some fly by night company. They are one of the larger parts distributors for a reason. They offer 6 month warranties on their boards and stand behind their product. Everybody has a bad board slip through the cracks every now and then, its part of the business. Just give them a call and they should take care of the problem.

Remember most of these boards are removed from TVs which have been dropped or physically abused and the LCD panel broken. There's no real way to tell if the boards are okay. 98% of the time they are but once in a while you'll get a TV with a broken LCD which also had an issue out of the factory, or one which developed over time and then was damaged. And it's not really economical to test them, given there are hundreds of T-con boards and so few matching combinations of panel and main board.

Put it on craigslist for best offer and see what you get for it. Its got to be a bad panel now but you dont have to list it that way on craigslist.

I didn't notice that there was also a different brightness bar in the darker area.

Although the panel could be bad, some T-cons and main boards can be calibrated to deal with different levels. Try entering the service mode.

Some people will buy a TV even with that problem as it's fine for gaming/OTA TV, just doesn't look as good but I once lived with a CRT which had a large horizontal grey bar appear on the screen next to anything bright (probably a bad HV supply), didn't matter that much.

I agree. It would be a waste to throw it in the trash. Me personally, I'd get more money by selling the Tconn board, inverter board, and power supply on ebay since I know these work. I wonder if it does this under different inputs or different resolutions on a computer?

How would i go about entering service mode?

It does this on all inputs and resolutions when connected via HDMI to computer.

A sequence of numbers plus usually the mute or menu button known only to an elite band of television service engineers.

                                  More seriously check the manual:

Looks like you need to modify the remote. I've never seen that before!

Usually with Philips you have to enter a series of numbers on the remote. Those $@%#@!%%#@!! did something I never saw before on this chassis. You have to cut a hole in the front of the remote to expose a button. Pressing that button will send the TV into service mode.

You MUST use IE6,7,8, or 9. Look for the Get Manual icon (or use your search function).
