Hi guys, i have a power supply with a shorted SR320 schottky diodes which is in parallel. Only 1 shorted while another is ok. So i removed the faulty one, the power supply is working fine now. SR320 is 3A 20V. I was thinking can i remove both diodes and replace SR340 as 1 diode as it is 3A 40V? Because i dont have SR320. Or can i replace both with SR340?

6A 20V, noted, will try that. Cause i fitted the 3A 40V diodes, no power at all. When i fit back the single 3A 20V, its working again.Comment

Re: replacing schottky diodes on a AV power supply
higher voltage is fine - infact with schottky's you really want 10x the running voltage.

Re: replacing schottky diodes on a AV power supply
Its a home theaters SMPS. I know, it doesn't makes any sense either. But i dont know, i took out the old one, put in 2 new SR340, power on, no power. Pull out again, put in the old SR320 diode, its working and i was like LOLLast edited by DjKrish; 08-28-2020, 07:55 PM.Comment

while take off from board, these are the reading on diode mode
sr320 - 0.343v
sr340 - 0.164vComment

both should be vf 0.55

Re: replacing schottky diodes on a AV power supply
Theoretically that's correct.
However, if the diodes are not built on the same physical die (as is the case here, where O/P has two separate diodes wired in parallel on the PCB), then one diode will run hotter than the other. When that happens, the forward voltage of the hotter diode will drop further, making the the circuit "prefer" to push more current through that diode, which will in turn heat up the diode even more. If this continues, thermal runaway may eventually kill the diode if the circuit has the capacity to push a sufficiently large current through it.
Because of that, I agree with what STJ suggested: use a single 6 Amp (or higher) diode/rectifier (and preferably Schottky type for lower losses.)
both should be vf 0.55

Re: replacing schottky diodes on a AV power supply
So when you install SR340 you say you no longer get the switched B12V?
When that happens, what Voltage do you get at the Cathode of SR340 with ref to circuit ground?
Is switched B31V present when that happen?
Can you also provide the full PDF of the service manual?Never stop learning

by sam_sam_samI have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump
One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy... -
by caspianDear members,
I have a linear variable power supply with unknown brand name that I used for voltage injection.
Then it failed. I discovered that its transistors (Q1 and Q2) are shorted.
In addition, I discovered that its zener diodes are defective.
I can replace the burned transistors.
But I do not know the model of the zener diodes. the model number is not marked on the zener diodes.
Therefore, I cannot replace the zener diodes.
I do not want to test the zener diodes in a test circuit to discover their model or value.
no schematics are available... -
by sam_sam_samI have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails
I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time... -
Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

by shamsudeenHi all, I just need to know that, can i use SMPS type power supply to test and short circuit detection on a laptop motherboard?
I saw 95% of repair guys are using only Linear bench power supply. linear bench power supply is pricy, thats why i planned to get one SMPS supply.
i know that in linear power supply the noise will be very low comparing to SMPS supply.... - Loading...
