Re: I'm not sure it gets more gutless than this
Hello evilkitty,
If we are going for vintage wouldn't original working order be better? as opposed to adding a pcb with a few components in it?
to my understanding it just needs to ~$0.50 diode to be vintage
now if wanted to upgrade this design i could slap a few caps in this thing and rewire it, but then it would not be original in its design, all of the components are on the ground side of the circuit
Some actually hide the modern component inside the original by hollowing it out. Paper capacitors were a favorite. But inevitably they have to replace some parts that stick out like dogs balls in regards to being modern.
You are correct though, the restoration of your charger would suffice with a diode inserted and no caps or other components.
Though, with the switch, you should be able to get one that is very similar to the original. You could also try spraying the switch with CRC 2-26 in hopes that it will be able to slide and actually make a proper contact with the 6 volt side of it.
Regards,

Re: I'm not sure it gets more gutless than this
mine got a drop of deoxit in the switch.other than a sanding and repaint with the nearest rattlecan i could find its stock.the cover was rusty.
little to go wrong in these.
not bad for something older than me.Comment

Re: I'm not sure it gets more gutless than this
lets use my mspait skills... ok i used gimp cause i don't run windows, but...
That would be right for charging a battery right, cause we do not want the battery to discharge
i checked the voltage and got 25vdc but it shows 12v AC
is this correct?Comment

Re: I'm not sure it gets more gutless than this
if you mean the diode's anode connects to the negative battery terminal, yeah that looks right. Should always test in DC mode, and ensure that you get a negative voltage when you reverse connections. The ripple from the halfwave rectifier will happily read weird voltages for non-true RMS voltmeters...Comment

by DXseekerMOHello everyone!
Recently I've noticed that some ShopJimmy backlight strips don't have double-sided tape installed upon them when an application calls for it, and I must purchase the tape separately. In a recent chat conversation with a customer service agent I told them if this tape wasn't applied when it was called for I would begin to consider ordering my backlight strips elsewhere. It looks like this time may have come.
I recently got a TCL 65S4 with bad backlights. After looking at the SJ listing here: https://www.shopjimmy.com/tcl-jl-d65...365as-m-led-ba...Yes0%1All backlight strips are the same quality0%1No0%0 -
by ckrtechThis is a cap on a motherboard from 1994. “Ark” is the only brand I know of that has an A inside a rectangle, but I wanted to run it by you guys and get any thoughts on quality.
Thanks in advance....1 Photo-

by momakaBoston Acoustics fans, this thread might not be for you.
A few years back (~2018 time frame), I picked up a set of free JVC speakers from someone on Craigslist that no one seemed to be interested in. The guy also had a single Boston Acoustics HD8 speaker – yes, just one cabinet. He said he had no idea where he got this one from or why it's only by itself. But like the JVC speakers, it was going to get tossed at the end of that week… so I came to collect, as usual. And that's all I know about this HD8. After all, I figured why not take it and see what's inside… show it to the...

by chth96I want to replace samhwa RG 250v 1uf capacitor which has no ESR value and has capacitance less than 280pf.
It is possible to purchase WCAP-ATG5 in local electronic shop.
But I want to know that whether WCAP-ATG5 capacitor has similar or better quality than smahwa capacitor or not.
Is there anyone who has experience to replace any bulge or faulty cap with cap from Wurth Elektronik?

by FZGHello!
I recently got an old VHS player from Panasonic and just for fun I want to try to repair this device. It is an AG-1000B portable VHS player from 1990 and it has a problem with picture quality in playback mode.
Picture in playback mode is very noisy and often loses sync but the still images are nearly perfect.
I want to know, is this something that could be solved by recapping or is the video head likely gone?
Also, what mechanism is this?
Any feedback is appreciated!...05-06-2024, 07:16 AM - Loading...
