Re: Dell XPS 9310 GDA30 LA-J143P bios repair please

alright, i think I've actually found some good resources for doing this. -- namely this:

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...clean+tutorial

    https://winraid.level1techs.com/t/in...sitories/30869

i guess really my only question now -- is where the heck is the service tag in this 9310 bios? I literally cant find it in any of the ones posted on this thread for other people or my own bios.

is it encrypted somehow? ideally I'd like to be able to change it as the motherboard that's in this laptop is not the original (so i have two different service tags )

If you want to keep your original service tag/key etc you can copy the DVAR area from your backup to the new bios using a hex editor.

You can make a search by HXD : FE E7 D9 F7 or by your model and search near it

            Hello, Total NOOB here.
Sorry in advance if I'm wasting anyone time.
Got a Dell XPS 9310 with a corrupted Bios.
            Service Tag : B5BCBK3
Getting a bit of experience in micro soldering and board repair but never flashed a bios.
What programmer should I purchase to start ? (TL866ii or etc...)
Found 2 x winbond and 1 x XMC 8 pin chip, that I think it could be the bios chip.
I've attached photos of what I found.
Once I order and receive the programmer, I could desolder the bios chip, read it and upload it I guess.
            Thanks again for your help.

We will need the content of that Chip (XMC/QH256) to fix it and stay away from the Winbond Chip.

You got this problem after BIOS update? And what was the BIOS version before update?
Remember to don't choose (OTP) when you select the chip, because this will add some extra length to the file.
Have you verified the file after flashing it to the chip?

I have a Dell XPS-15 (9520) with the LA-L402P motherboard. It seems to have bricked itself after a common BIOS-Firmware upgrade. Now, it just shows BIOS screen for a few seconds before turning-itself back Off (and doesn't seem to be fully Posting). I've done these many times before with no problems.

I was hoping to please have my own-thread to work-through this (hopefully successful) repair as a whole. Apart from the possible need to have a BIOS-dump fixed-up, I have a feeling I'm going to have other questions. This includes using my new XGecu-T76 for the first time (should be here...

Hello, I have an old Dell G3 3579 (ST: 2WQ7LP2-8FC8) with a newer 8FC8 BIOS password. I have successfully attached to the flash chip (W25Q128JVSQ) on the motherboard with a CH341A programmer and made several modifications using Intel FIT (e.g., allow software SPI write) without bricking. I was also able to boot to a modified GRUB shell where I attempted to edit many BIOS security related options like BIOS Guard/Lock, Flash Signature Override, ME FW Image Re-Flash, etc.

Unfortunately, some of these modifications like to Intel BIOS Guard failed because it is fused into the PCH. Also,...

Sorry for the long story. I have a Dell Latitude 5530 (i7) laptop (South Peak 15 MLK MB DDR4 203102-1 FK8VG$JA) with an admin BIOS password that I want to remove. Service Tag: HYKFPT3. Other than that the laptop worked OK.

I found a CH341A Black and went looking for the BIOS chip on the motherboard. After trying to read one chip that was a firmware chip but not the BIOS I think I found the BIOS chip labeled Winbond 25Q256JVEN. Altogether I think I found 4 different firmware chips in the laptop. The BIOS chip is a WSON8 6x8. I used the CH341A, NeoProgrammer, and a cheap pogo pin clip...

Hi, I hope some one has some advice for me. I searched the forums but didn't see anything relevant. I acquired two identical Dell 9010 Mid Tower computers from a business office upgrade (they were going to throw them out). Both of them have the same motherboard (00F82W). One of them works flawlessly. The other one had a corrupted BIOS. I tried flashing numerous main BIOS and EC files from the internet, but none of them worked. I decided to copy the main BIOS and EC from the working 9010 computer and successfully flashed the corrupted BIOS. This got the computer able to boot again and run norm...

                                            Hello,

I am troubleshooting a Dell XPS 12 with motherboard 9Q23 (Compal LA-8821P) that failed during a Windows 10 update. The system powered off abruptly and never booted again. Initial behaviour
                                            • No display at any time (internal or external)
                                            • Power button would immediately shut the system off
                                            • System auto-powers when AC adapter is connected (battery removed)
                                            • Beep code: 3 beeps – pause – 3 beeps (continuous)
                                            • Fan never spins
This behaviour suggests that POST starts but fails very early in initialization. On this platform, 3 beeps are generally associated with system board / chipset...
