Hey everyone,
I recently bought a Dell G15 5515 with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H and 3060 RTX. The BIOS chip on it was dead, and my hardware guy replaced the chip. After that, everything was working fine.
The BIOS is currently at version 1.22.1, and I wanted to update it. I downloaded the latest BIOS version from Dell Support using my ST: FQZMYJ3, but when I tried to run it, it says "unsupported system." I asked my tech guy what he did, and he said he took the chip from another board and flashed it onto mine.
When I check the BIOS using the F12 menu Flash Utility, it shows as an Alienware M15 Ryzen ED R5, even though everything else recognizes it as a Dell G15 5515.
I tried using the RCV file to do a recovery since it seems like just a platform ID mismatch. I formatted a 2GB USB stick as FAT32, put the BIOS_IMG.RCV file on it, and pressed CTRL + ESC. The side light flashes 4 times white and 3 times orange, but nothing happens.
Don’t hate me
, but after some research (I’m a prompt engineer, so yes… I chatgpt’d it), it seems like I probably can’t fix this on a software level. Looks like I’ll need to reprogram the BIOS, but I have no clue where to find a proper .bin file for my device. I also can’t ask Dell Support because it’s a second-hand laptop with no proof of purchase.
I’m hoping someone here might know a trick to fix this on a software level or could kindly share the .bin file for the Dell G15 5515.
Thanks in advance!
