Re: MacBook Pro A1706 820-00239 no power

I am not sure but could it be that I damaged the SSD in any way while in the process of repairing it? I have not removed any heat sink and fixed the board while all the metals are still connected. If all else fails I will just have the OS installed on an external drive possibly.

Very good. Review the nand flash voltage rail. The ssd has to be powered to be enumerated. Measure the voltage where you can. The nand flash is also PCI Express interface based. Respectively, you will see DC blocking caps (0.1 uF) in series with each of the PCIe signals. Confirm that each such cap is present and not defective. Even if a single cap is missing, the SSD will not be detected. Do also check if the nand flash chips are too hot. This can mean they are defective.

Also, watch this video. Could be the same case for you.

And this dude. A fast talker but he shows that the 1v8 power rail for the ssd was shorting due to another quality capacitor. Resulting in the power supply for the ssd shutting down and you will see the ssd as missing.

Re: MacBook Pro A1706 820-00239 no power

Thank you so much! I really appreciate all the help. I may not be able to do it right now since I am still in my working hours. By tomorrow I might be asked to report to the office since the restriction here in Manila has been lifted long ago. I will try to do it tomorrow before work and I will make sure to keep you posted.

I will make sure to check all the videos you have sent here.

I forgot to mention I am doing this as a hobby but sure if I can repair a laptop in the future it would be really great. But for now, I need a stable income hence office work is my go-to work till I manage to acquire enough experience and knowledge with the repair. Thanks thanks.

You are off to a great start. Keep at it. For sure there are enough sales to support this as a viable business model in your area. Have been through Manila and there are ample iphone / iwidget and Macbook junkies in your backyard.

Re: MacBook Pro A1706 820-00239 no power

Update: I have been searching the internet for things I need to look for as well as youtube for issues they had about why SSD is not working. So far I was not able to find the same. I am running out of options and starting to wonder if I can still fix this hahaha. One thing I notice is that I have unknowingly shorted C6505 pin#2 to ISNS_SSDNAND_IOUT I am not sure if it is bad or what but I did trace where it goes and it is not connected anywhere at all or at least the components where it was supposed to be connected is none existent.

Another thing to mention is that C9403 and all other components connected to it are not shorted when the black probe is connected to the ground but in reverse polarity, it shows dead short I am not sure if that is just okay or if it is normal to act like that.

I hope someone can help me move forward.TIA.

PS: Just a question those capacitors that I remove are not critical as you have mentioned I would like to confirm when you mentioned not critical it is like critical to powering the unit. As far as I can see the unit is powering okay so I guess those are not indeed critical to powering on the unit but is there a chance that these capacitors are used for the enabling of the SSD?

I have found another forum that has lots of the same issues as mine and will try to check each thread to see if I can get anything from the information that I can find. It's rossmanngroup they have a pretty huge collection of issues and solved cases there but free users have limited access. I will update here again if I found something that will for me just in case others found their selves in the same situation.

Could you tell me where to buy d6902, I can not find it at Taiwan's electronic market, Thanks

Hi. Very likely that the manufacturer of the diode on the board is from Taiwan

The part is not critical but you must source a sc-70 sized dual common cathode diode rated at 30v and recommend 300mA current. It is a common schottky dual diode.

Here is one of many that can work here:

                        https://www.digikey.com/en/products/...CWFILM/1207017

After some beauty sleep, can find others. I know that we have sourced many ESD diodes from Taiwan for production of our USB designs from Inpaq and others. Will dig a bit later today. The key parameters are sc-70; common cathode, 30v and at least 200mA current but suggest 300mA support.

PS: miss the food court in the Taipei 101 building.
