Re: MacBook Pro A1706 820-00239 no power
I have found another forum that has lots of the same issues as mine and will try to check each thread to see if I can get anything from the information that I can find. It's rossmanngroup they have a pretty huge collection of issues and solved cases there but free users have limited access. I will update here again if I found something that will for me just in case others found their selves in the same situation.

Re: MacBook Pro A1706 820-00239 no power
Update: I have been searching the internet for things I need to look for as well as youtube for issues they had about why SSD is not working. So far I was not able to find the same. I am running out of options and starting to wonder if I can still fix this hahaha. One thing I notice is that I have unknowingly shorted C6505 pin#2 to ISNS_SSDNAND_IOUT I am not sure if it is bad or what but I did trace where it goes and it is not connected anywhere at all or at least the components where it was supposed to be connected is none existent. ...Last edited by Xenoaeuriix; 01-04-2023, 09:04 PM.

Re: MacBook Pro A1706 820-00239 no power
I forgot to mention I am doing this as a hobby but sure if I can repair a laptop in the future it would be really great. But for now, I need a stable income hence office work is my go-to work till I manage to acquire enough experience and knowledge with the repair. Thanks thanks.

Re: MacBook Pro A1706 820-00239 no power
Thank you so much! I really appreciate all the help. I may not be able to do it right now since I am still in my working hours. By tomorrow I might be asked to report to the office since the restriction here in Manila has been lifted long ago. I will try to do it tomorrow before work and I will make sure to keep you posted.
I will make sure to check all the videos you have sent here.

Re: MacBook Pro A1706 820-00239 no power
I am not sure but could it be that I damaged the SSD in any way while in the process of repairing it? I have not removed any heat sink and fixed the board while all the metals are still connected. If all else fails I will just have the OS installed on an external drive possibly.

Re: MacBook Pro A1706 820-00239 no power
It did boot up but instead of the usual welcome screen what I saw is a flashing folder with a question mark in it as if the disk cannot be detected by the laptop. I then run online recovery downloaded it and run reinstall macOS online. But then during the process, it cannot find the disk where it can be installed to. Also, I did try to run the disk utility and still cannot find the disk from there. I will try to boot my external disk to see if it can find the disk do you have any suggestions to fix it?
PS: Thank you so much...

Re: MacBook Pro A1706 820-00239 no power
1) Good resistance after adding back removed resistors.
2) Yes it is still showing high resistance.
3) Did the voltage inject, it is not drawing any current at all.
4) Fuse has been re-attached back. Measured resistance and it still showed high resistance like there was no short, to begin with. Powered up the board
PPBUS_G3H showing voltage now 13.X v looks running well now and the USB meter is showing good Amp reading. It looks like it is booting up now. Should I go ahead and put the board back...

Re: MacBook Pro A1706 820-00239 no power
Thank you for the response. My shift already started almost an hour ago. I will be doing this later during my break which will be in 30 mins. I will keep you posted. Thanks!

Re: MacBook Pro A1706 820-00239 no power
One meter lead on each side of the cap while it is on your work table.
= The reading is 000.0 ohms
Confirm again the resistance to the ground of PPBUS_G3H with this cap off the logic board.
= short now is gone for the ppbus_g3h value keeps on changing start with 1.000M oHms and keeps going down to 0.786M oHms so I stop there. Should I wait for the reading to stop?

Re: MacBook Pro A1706 820-00239 no power
Doing it now, by the way U9400 is not actually heating ut at all, I just thought it is because I got burnt while touching it but it is because the capacitor that is heating up is too close to it.

Re: MacBook Pro A1706 820-00239 no power
I see that this is connected in parallel to the other capacitor that I knock out while trying to re-attach the fuse F7000
The red circle is what's heating up while the yellow is the one I knocked out....

Sorry the capacitor is C9401

Re: MacBook Pro A1706 820-00239 no power
I switch from using alcohol to rosin it clearly shows what is heating up. It is one of the capacitors near U9400 the C5910

Re: MacBook Pro A1706 820-00239 no power
Monitor who heats up. Does the regulator you have worked on heat up? Do also monitor the output side mosfets present on the same voltage rail.
Yes the U9400 still heats up, I am really sorry I don't know which of them is the mosfet nor how to do this "monitor the output side mosfets present on the same voltage rail."

Re: MacBook Pro A1706 820-00239 no power
I found five more components heating up on the same setup. Aside from the U9400 which was initially detected heating up during voltage injection, there are five more parts that are heating up as well not that hot but the alcohol on top of them dried faster than other components and it is warm to the touch.
Components are : FL6500, FL6501, C6506, C6507 and U6500

Re: MacBook Pro A1706 820-00239 no power
With care, remove R9401 and R9406. = Successfully removed.
After the parts are removed, check if the short is still present on PPBUS_G3H.
= Yes the short is still present ( I have already re-attached the F7000 and have accidentally knocked out the C7054 I hope that it is not an important capacitor.

Re: MacBook Pro A1706 820-00239 no power
PICCOLO_VEN1 to GND = 1.680M oHms
Then power up again and check the voltage @ R9420, pin # 2 to ground. = 0.020
Do you have a valid EN voltage now ? = I am not sure what is the valid voltage but I got 0.020
Use ample flux + low air pressure and enough hot air temp to remove the part. Do not lose the part but if lost, you can bridge it later with a blob of solder. = I manage to remove it without losing it. Max temp @ lowest air.

Re: MacBook Pro A1706 820-00239 no power
3) Proceed to raise the current setting but again, voltage @ 1 volt. When you do this, what does your meter show as the current draw during this event. Expecting that the max current value will be reached since this is a hard short with 0 ohms to ground. Respectively, you are intentionally trying to heat up the shorted component with this process. From my experience, if it is a cap, you will smell it and often will crack / split open under this event. Hoping yours is a similar case. Then remove the cracked capacitor.
You are...Last edited by piernov; 12-31-2022, 04:55 PM.

Re: MacBook Pro A1706 820-00239 no power
Oh, that was a surprise! I have never been to Cebu before but I have seen lots of places to go to due to the pandemic traveling does not really an option now you may end up with lots of road block, here in the PH protocols are being strictly implemented in a few more months everything should be back to normal since we are being asked to report back to work in the office. I do love the veggie fries too XD
I am not sure how I can measure the current draw?? Is it something the multi-meter is capable of?...
