    MacBook Pro 13 2009 A1278

Hello guys, new to the forums here and hoping I could get some help!

I've some knowledge in the computer field but still rusty when it comes to capacitors and such so please bare with me.

I received a 2009 MacBook Pro A1278. When I got it, it was completely dead and had no charger. Bought a charger and started charging it up, the battery now has a full charge. However, when the power button is pressed it is lifeless. No chime, no fan spin, no drive spin, nothing. I read about the power pads on the board and tried that, it'd spark very faintly but still nothing. Tried reflowing the Nvidia chip, nothing.

Took my volt meter out and I'm getting voltages across the board from one side to the other. Did not ohm anything though. Taking a look at the board front and back, there's nothing obvious at all. Could someone guide me in the right direction? I'd greatly appreciate it!

The areas circled are what I have checked with a volt meter.

Try a keyboard bypass by shorting out two pads on a certain point of the board. Should be able to google it with images. Maybe the power button is shot?

Hi Did you ever have any luck with this board? I have a similar issue. There is a white fuse that seems to be blown, it is near the display port, one side seems to go to ground. I don't want to short it as i am not so sure it should be going to ground and perhaps something else is shorted.
I'm looking for help and trying to understand how to get a board view and the diagrams i need to trouble shoot it.

There is a number marked on the board 820-???? Looks to be next to the fan wire in that photo.

Hi Thanks for the reply. I had also sent you a PM regarding this issue as you seem to have helped quite a few others in similar situations.

If you look at the photo Quickbird144 had posted above my board looks very similar. I did find the schematic but not the board view. Also i am new to reading this type of schematic and without the board view it seems tricky.

If you look in his photo near the display connector (sorry, not port) you can see the white fuse (just to the left) I am not sure how to use the schematic to locate this fuse to see it's value and where it go's to.

On a similar board view i did find that it looks like it might be very similar to diode D9701 (at least it is in the same position on the board)

I found that on a boardview for a 820-2879 and D9701 appears to be linked to the backlight.

My board is an 820-2565-A I noticed several people looking for a board view for this board but it appears with no replies.

EDIT: I have added an image i found online of the same board but with someone else's problem so please ignore the missing component and look for the white fuse in the top right side of the photo. Also i tested voltage at R33F the 3 legged component. And it had 3 or 4 volts on the 2 legs on the left, i think the one leg on the right was also shorted to ground as far as i can remember.

ok, 2565 is magsafe code. look near fan or hdd connector for an other code like 820-xxxx .

                    by Rezendes
Hello, I am looking for any and all files related to the mainboard for 820-2565-A (13" Macbook Pro A1278 mid 2012) schematics/board view.

I looked through forum search results and google and was unable to find a board view file, I found a pdf of all the schematics but I don't know where the parts physically are on the board as this is my first macbook board level repair attempt.

The macbook charger has a green light, the battery has been replaced and OS reports Normal status but Not charging. After cleaning a corroded capacitor it crumbled off the board. There...

                    MacBook A1278 (3115) No PPBUS_G3H Issue
                    by pcbmaniac
Subject: Help Needed: MacBook A1278 (3115) No PPBUS_G3H Issue

                    Hello everyone,

I'm working on a MacBook A1278 with the 3115 logic board and facing an issue with no PPBUS_G3H voltage. Here's what I've checked so far:
                    1. U7000 Measurements:
                      • Pin 3 has 0V, even though R7012 shows 16.5V from PPDCIN_S5_CHGR.
                    2. Resistors:
                      • I measured R7010 and R7011 with one leg disconnected, and both tested OK.

Based on these findings, I believe U7000 needs to be replaced. However, I have a related question:
                    • If I also decide to replace the SMC, do I need to order it pre-programmed,
                    ...
