Re: HP Envy 15 cannot charge battery!

by the way, not sure what this means but the resistance between charge pin 1 and ground is 20Mohms on the new board and 10kohms on the original

I don't really understand what I am doing, the values constantly change, why is that?
Make sure that the ground remains stable. You can use metal case of board.

The idea is that, if for example, PL3 resistance is very low mean leakage current to the ground.

Trying to move forward in order. First checked with the VIN input.

Measure resistance of PL7 and PL8 if resistance is very low there is shortage.

We can measure those signals from U33.

If you like we can investigate both the system board in parallel.

          Bad charge board.

PQ13 and PQ15 also PQ10 you can remove those, if you are think they are cause problems.

Put remember mark them firts before remove them.

Powering up, it is essential that some of the operating voltages are there.

          1. VIN = 19V this have to work first.

          2. 3V ALWS and 5V ALWS without those nothing work.

Good charge board those are OK.

So this board we can go futher if you like?

Bad charge board we have to find short circuit before proceed.

PL7 and PL8 resistances are 220kohms on the original board and 115kohms on the new one.

Why do I need to mark them, I thought they were the same? I think I did swap them over when replacing them..

I cannot put the probes on single pins on U33, they are too small, it would be impossible not to short circuit..

Marking is good idea anyway. Always when removing parts mark them.

U33 I will come back to this a little later. I try find way to test signals.

PL7,PL8 not short, so need different test.

VIN 19 have to get working firts. AC ON and check PD4 or PC47 voltage.

              -------------------------------------------

              I looked NBSWON can it be measured CN8 PIN1 or C138 ?

If you can measure this press Power Button NBSWON should go 3.3V -> 0V -> 3.3V.

              This is Power ON signal.

Is PD4 the a 10 pin IC or the big voltage regulator thing? PC47 is 19.4V, if PD4 is the voltage regulator it is 6V, if it is the 10 pin chip it is ~mV

                I will try NBSWON

                  Never mind PD4

PC47 19.4V is enough for us by now.

Next look if VIN OK in PC43 should be 19.4V.

there is only 5mV on cn8 pin 1, when i press the button it momentarily jumps to 20mV and back down

                      Which board is that?

This should be 3.3V Good Charge board.

If I try to measure CH8 pin1 on old board, charging light goes from white to flashing orange when i touch it with the probe.. I am not short circuiting it

Ok. There is no VIN voltage anymore.

                                Check PR12, PR13 and PQ14.

PQ14 should be CLOSED at VIN voltage can go to +PWRSRC.

I think there is definitely a problem with U33, its almost like it is loose, if i press on it the light goes white, if i let go it flashes orange.. and it burns my finger to press on it lol

You can check PIN8 for sure cause shematics has different marking.

If there is no 3.3V it means at U33 not work correctly.

This case that has to recheck different place to be absolutely sure.

Vostro 3400 (LA-K033P) won't charge battery, everything else ok

I bought a Vostro 3400 motherboard (LA-K033P) to upgrade over my damaged Inspiron 5593 (LA-J091P) board. Everything else is ok except for the battery. This battery I am using now is already a replacement one since I disposed of the bloated original one. Back in the Inspiron 5593 motherboard, the battery charges fine and is identified just fine. However, with the upgraded motherboard, suddenly the replacement battery is labeled as "Not a dell battery". When I borrow a similar battery from my colleague (which did not have replacements yet), it is identified and charges just fine.

                                            Hello,
it's not a laptop/desktop related question but I figured that someone here will have the right knowledge.
At work we use a few Aldebaran(now Softbank/United Robotics group) Nao Robots which they use some custom 6S li-on battery packs.
Nao robots tends to draw from the battery even if they are shut down, and the BMS tends to be a little aggresive, if the pack stays on a turned off robot for 3 months it's gonna lock and will refuse to charge.

Now, I have noticed a few things.
The "dead" battery, while connected to charger and NOT Charging will...

Fail: Does not charge battery, has low voltaje on connector.

Laptop didn't want to turn on, only charge led blinked.

I found PQB5 (mosfet high battery charger) in short, voltaje in +12.6V_BATT was 19 v ...

I changed it, changed PQB6 too and now battery charger voltage is 4.4V but battery is 3 cell, 11.25v, then is very low to charging.

Laptop turns on without battery and works fine, but with battery turns on and turns off inmediately, I suspect battery bad but I don't know...

Charge a L19D3PDA battery externally from the laptop
                                            by Klevjetack
Is there a way to externally charge a L19D3PDA battery from the laptop. I have a broken charging port on my laptop and am trying to find a way to charge the battery for it. I have been doing some research and I have found that there is a module, TP4056, that can be used to charge Li-ion batteries. It says it is used to charge single cell Li-ion batteries. The L19D3PDA battery is a three cell battery. Is it possible to use the module to charge my battery and it would just be very slow? Or would that be a bad idea. Is there a different kind of module I can use to charge my Li-ion three cell battery?...

Hi guys I have this dell that with the battery charged it turns on correctly, but if I connect the charger I get the charging symbol but it doesn't charge the battery.
I found the shorted charger PU4401 ISL9538h that had pins 14 and 15 shorted and I replaced it. but it still doesn't charge.
                                            I noticed 2 things:
                                            1) without the battery connected if I connect the power supply, on the SDA and SCL pins of the battery I have 0V I measured the resistance with ground and it is very high, if I connect the battery I have 3v on the 2 lines.
                                            2) if I try to turn it on without the battery...
