Re: HP Envy 15 cannot charge battery!
Measure AC ON and AC OFF.
After that can you check PQ44 PIN 1.
If PQ44 PIN 1 not 19V, remove PQ42.
If PQ44 PIN 1 is 19V, you do not need remove PQ42.Comment

Re: HP Envy 15 cannot charge battery!
Voltages on pq44 are 19v 19v and 16.9vComment

Re: HP Envy 15 cannot charge battery!
15V AC only
15V AC and BAT
BAT only - jumps from 2.3V to 1V as soon as checkingComment

Re: HP Envy 15 cannot charge battery!
I think we are really close the problem.
PQ44 PIN 1 = 19V OK.
PQ44 PIN 2 = 16V ??? This may be low enought to OPEN PQ44?
PQ44 PIN 3 = 19V OK. This means at PQ44 is OPEN.
It seems that the problem is the PQ44 or PQ49 and possible PQ45.
Can you put PQ10 back into place and measure PQ10 PIN 4. PQ49, PQ44, PQ45.
If those voltages stay, charging should (nearly) work.
It may be at PQ49 not open enough to get through enough current through PQ44.
To be sure you can measure above from charging board.Last edited by Tuomo; 02-08-2013, 10:58 AM.Comment

This looks as it almost right voltages on PQ4 PIN 4.

Re: HP Envy 15 cannot charge battery!
Thank you, unfortunately I think there is a lot more wrong with this motherboard now, sometimes no lights come on at all, so I keep reheating some of the components I have played with and then lights will come on and it will charge (without PQ10) but it keeps breaking again with no lights.. I just brought the motherboard home with PQ10 in place and tried to turn it on and it just seems completely dead now.. I will try to resolder everything again on Monday
1. +PRWSRC = 19V
2. ALLWAYS Voltages PU9 PIN 7 LDO 5V.
3. PL5 3.3V
4. Press Power Button and check NBSWON should go 3.3V -> 0V -> 3.3V
5. DNBSWON 0V -> 3.3V
6. SUSB# and SUSC# 0 -> 3.3V
7. S5_ON = 3.3V
This tell you if U33 is working or not. You can test both your boards.Comment

Re: HP Envy 15 cannot charge battery!
PU9 PIN 6 IN = 19V you can check PC134.
PL5 = 3.3V
Can you check again please.Comment

Re: HP Envy 15 cannot charge battery!
on good board bad charge PC133 oscillates from 2V to 0V every second, PC134 is 6VComment

Re: HP Envy 15 cannot charge battery!
Bad charge board has short circuit.
You can measure resistance PL3, PL5, PL6 and compare them second board.
I mean black probe earth and red probe PL3 or PL5 in diode mode.Last edited by Tuomo; 02-08-2013, 02:22 PM.Comment

Re: HP Envy 15 cannot charge battery!
Like I said, when the battery was plugged in with the power cable and the power button was pressed, the chipset (that looks like a GPU) gets very hot and that is the only sign of change. I was not aware of U33 getting hot as it was underneath the wifi card.Comment

Re: HP Envy 15 cannot charge battery!
do you think the original board can be fixed? i am tempted to but a new U33 for it.. this motherboard broke because of overheating, it just died one day and never worked again.

You can try Reflowing that chip, it may help.
U33 can check by measure NBSWON etc.
It is worth of a try.Comment

Re: HP Envy 15 cannot charge battery!
I tried reflowing it a few times it didnt help, I don't know what you refer to with NBSWON, and other things like DNBSWON, SUSB, SUSC etc..Comment

Re: HP Envy 15 cannot charge battery!
I was not expecting quite such a low resistance.
Did you put black probe USB earth or something like or did you just measure plain coil?
You can also put second probe DC IN and somewhere board earth to see if VIN is shorted.Last edited by Tuomo; 02-08-2013, 02:50 PM.Comment

Re: HP Envy 15 cannot charge battery!
oops okay, good board bad charge: PL5 is 17.5 ohms, pl3 is 28kohms, pl6 is 8Mohms
bad board good charge: pl5 is 6 ohms, pl6 is 11 Mohms, pl3 is 16 Mohms
I don't really understand what I am doing, the values constantly change, why is that?Comment

Re: HP Envy 15 cannot charge battery!
I think there is a problem with PQ13 and PQ15, it was when i swapped these it developed the no light problem. I cant access PQ15 pins because PL6 is in the way, I tried to remove PL6 but it would not come off, I even cracked the outer case of PL6 with the tweasers because it got so hot, but it did work for a while shortly after this so I don't think PL6 is actually damagedComment

I bought a Vostro 3400 motherboard (LA-K033P) to upgrade over my damaged Inspiron 5593 (LA-J091P) board. Everything else is ok except for the battery. This battery I am using now is already a replacement one since I disposed of the bloated original one. Back in the Inspiron 5593 motherboard, the battery charges fine and is identified just fine. However, with the upgraded motherboard, suddenly the replacement battery is labeled as "Not a dell battery". When I borrow a similar battery from my colleague (which did not have replacements yet), it is identified and charges just fine.

by razenxdHello,
it's not a laptop/desktop related question but I figured that someone here will have the right knowledge.
At work we use a few Aldebaran(now Softbank/United Robotics group) Nao Robots which they use some custom 6S li-on battery packs.
Nao robots tends to draw from the battery even if they are shut down, and the BMS tends to be a little aggresive, if the pack stays on a turned off robot for 3 months it's gonna lock and will refuse to charge.
Now, I have noticed a few things.
The "dead" battery, while connected to charger and NOT Charging will...-

by ruleteroHi
Acer A515-43
LA-H801P
Fail: Does not charge battery, has low voltaje on connector.
Laptop didn't want to turn on, only charge led blinked.
I found PQB5 (mosfet high battery charger) in short, voltaje in +12.6V_BATT was 19 v ...
I changed it, changed PQB6 too and now battery charger voltage is 4.4V but battery is 3 cell, 11.25v, then is very low to charging.
Laptop turns on without battery and works fine, but with battery turns on and turns off inmediately, I suspect battery bad but I don't know... -
by KlevjetackIs there a way to externally charge a L19D3PDA battery from the laptop. I have a broken charging port on my laptop and am trying to find a way to charge the battery for it. I have been doing some research and I have found that there is a module, TP4056, that can be used to charge Li-ion batteries. It says it is used to charge single cell Li-ion batteries. The L19D3PDA battery is a three cell battery. Is it possible to use the module to charge my battery and it would just be very slow? Or would that be a bad idea. Is there a different kind of module I can use to charge my Li-ion three cell battery?...

by dclass-proHi guys I have this dell that with the battery charged it turns on correctly, but if I connect the charger I get the charging symbol but it doesn't charge the battery.
I found the shorted charger PU4401 ISL9538h that had pins 14 and 15 shorted and I replaced it. but it still doesn't charge.
I noticed 2 things:
1) without the battery connected if I connect the power supply, on the SDA and SCL pins of the battery I have 0V I measured the resistance with ground and it is very high, if I connect the battery I have 3v on the 2 lines.
2) if I try to turn it on without the battery... - Loading...
