Westinghouse 19" Power/Inverter

    Westinghouse 19" Power/Inverter

    I believe this Westinghouse 19" widescreen is a rebranded Optiquest. Won't power up when plugged in. A lot of the parts inside say ViewSonic or OptiQuest. The Power/Inverter board is a DELTA, which outputs both 5Vdc, 3.0A and (inverter) 1250Vrms, 4.5 to 5.5 mA.

    This unit has 5 bulging CapXon capacitors (hmm, beginning to see a pattern here), a likely blown fuse (3.15 A, 250 V radial button-type fuse), and a potentially blown resistor (and possibly the neighbouring inductor). A majority of the bulging CapXon capacitors have date code P608, so 8th week 2006. Here's the list of bad caps:
    1. CE100 _220uF 25V KF/105C 8 x 13 mm
    2. CE101 1000uF 25V KF/105C 10 x 21 mm
    3. CE102 1000uF 25V KF/105C 10 x 21 mm
    4. CE104 2200uF 10V KF/105C 13 x 20 mm (no bulge)
    5. CE105 1000uF 10V KF/105C 10 x 15 mm (no bulge, date code P608)
    6. CE107 __22uF 50V GL/105C 4 x 11 mm
    7. _C200 _220uF 25V KF/105C 8 x 13 mm
    8. C203 _220uF 25V KF/105C 8 x 13 mm
    9. [FONT=Courier New]Resistor Violet-Blue-Violet-Silver, which, if memory servers is 76 x 10^7 Ohms or 7.6 MOhm with 10% tolerance - I think

      You also have 2 axial fuses (green) in between those blown caps

        Confirmed. Those are F200 and F201, respectively, they are 3A 125V fuses (according to silkscreen)

          Surprisingly, none of the fuses were blown, and with a bit of soldering some new Panasonic FM/FC series to replace the CapXon caps the monitor works again. Well, not exactly - I had to then fixing my poor cold solder joints - tin solder is no fun. I seem to remember getting tested in electronics class. If the teacher could pick the board up by the resistor after soldering with no joints snapping - pass. If either of the joints snapped (or worse, the board fell) - fail.

            I am having a similar problem with the same board (seems to be common in all LCD monitors) The resistor you listed here is burnt on the board I am fixing and I cannot tell what the color bands were. I believe that a 7.6 MOhm resistor is Violet-Blue-Green. The Violet-Blue-Violet like you listed would be 760MegOhm which is unusually high. Are you sure of the resistor colors? I need to replace this one and I cant find schematics anywhere....
