Re: Another bad HP 1955 Inverter... probably

Yeah I got a laugh out of that too when I repaired mine . It's on my primary comp been using it since December 07.

    What's Hight Voltage anyways ?

Did the 5 amp pico fuse blow?

Or did the manufacturer cut costs and put a wire bridge there?

I've never seen one burn out like that before they usually just open.
Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.

yes! i indentified the problem, it was amazingly difficult.... one of the bulbs is bad lol
the end of the bulb assembly you can see and smell it.

i kinda went for an all or nothing test, shorted the fuse. when i did that i could hear a sizzle from one of the corners of the screen.

any idea where i can get one? or what size i need? i see they are mostly like 2.2 - 4mm and i dont think i have anyway to tell what size it is

but its not really the bulb as far as i can tell its more the wiring....

          Hi,

Don't know how many are still following this thread but I have perhaps a related issue although mine involves a mystery part (i think it's a diode...).

Does someone have an idea of what the part is @ PF701? I have attached some pictures to this post and the first one shows the busted part while the second two show two parts that I can identify any will be replacing.

          Thanks!

Its the pico fuse, try and see if you can read how many amp it is

Can't really make out anything besides "bel" and "M5" both are big maybes though.

Is there a standard pico fuse?

Picofuse is the proprietary name of several series of leaded fuses. Think of it as a miniature version of a pigtail fuse. They are available in a wide range of speed and current ratings. This is most likely a fast acting fuse.

I would suggest two approaches for determining the current rating. One is easy - someone might recognize the monitor and know the rating of the fuse.
Often the maximum outputs of the various supply voltages are listed. If, for example the power supply indicates it outputs 5V at 3.5A and 12V at 2A, use a 1.5 or 2A picofuse.

If all else fails, I would suggest making VERY sure everything is working, and then try a 2 A fuse.

If your board is 48.l1a02.a31 then it should be yours, but check on the underside of it when you remove your fuse

Correct, PF701 is a 5A pico fuse. I've fixed about 10 of these boards already with this one:

                    F2317-ND

                    Best of luck!

A sincere thanks to you all, Bobdee, maverick530 and PlainBill.

One question I have that arises out my having quick blow fuses and their corresponding holders, is does it make any sense to use a 5A quick blow in the PICO fuse's stead?

                      Thanks again,

                      Nathaniel

Only if you intend to troubleshoot the problem by replacing components until the fuse no longer blows. There are much more efficient ways to fix the problem.
