Hyvision by Megavision MV220 LCD monitor goes blank after 0.5-1 second

I need some help with my PC LCD Hyvision by Megavision MV220 monitor.
I am an electrical hobbyist that very much enjoys fixing things. I can solder/unsolder reasonably well and have a good understanding of electrical circuitry (although by trade am Mechanical Engineer).

    History/problem statement:
Purchased monitor in 2007 and has been working flawlessly until 1 month ago. 1 month ago monitor would turn on for 1 sec show the computer screen and then go blank. I would reset the computer (thinking that it maybe the PC fault) and the monitor screen would come on. This lasted for about 2 weeks and then after reset it would not come on. So after trial and error found out that if left idle for about 15-30 after start and then reset LCD monitor would turn on. 1 week later and the monitor required several resets/restarts for it to come on until it would not come on at all. I connected the monitor to my laptop and the same thing happened.
To summarize the monitor comes on for 0.5 - 1 second and then goes blank. I can see the computer screen and everything is normal (when I turn on/off the monitor) but it only lasts for 0.5 - 1 second before going blank.

    What I have done:
    • Measured output of external power supply with a meter and am getting 12.11V. External power supply is rated for 4.16A @ 12V DC (as shown in attached photo)
    • Connected the Monitor with different power supply (lab PS high quality) and the same issue occurs. PS was measuring only 0.6A draw @ 12.11DC setting.
    • Opened up the monitor and checked the main board and inverter board. No signs of burns, boards look clean, no signs of capacitor bulging or leakage as shown in the attached photos.

From what I have read it seemed logical (and cheap) to replace all caps and retest. Before I did this I was hoping someone with experience could tell me where to start with replacement first (identify which caps could be the culprit and replace first) or any tests that I can do to identify if any other part may be problematic.

    Tools available:
Digital multicenter, RC tester (can measure up to 20uF capacitance), oscilloscope, Adjustable lab power supply (Max 5A @ 30V), breadboard, Soldering Iron, wires, connectors and a wide variety of parts (resistors, caps, inductors etc).

I can provide more info if I have missed describing what is needed to identify the issue.

I thank you in advance for taking the time to help in this matter.

You probably have 2 seconds to black - click on troubleshooting computer displays above and there is a sticky guide by retiredcaps. Start at post 19

On the inverter board test the secondary windings on the two big transformers.
Cant be sure but looks like the joints are going to be straight in line with the
lamp sockets. Report results - if they are ok then suspect that KSC cap

Re: Hyvision by Megavision MV220 LCD monitor goes blank after 0.5-1 second

Thanks for the quick reply. Measured winding on both transformers and am getting resistances of 905 and 915 ohm. I would think they are ok?
Connected another capacitor of the same value in parallel with the KSC (essentially making sure that I get the capcitance required) and it made no difference. Perhaps this cap needs to be replaced...
Checked the screen with a flashlight and I can see the computer icons (very dim) so definitely this is a 2 seconds to black issue type. It seems like the CCFL are not lighting up. This can be on the inverter, safety shutdown mode due to other components or the CCFL themsleves (one is fried? and the rest will not light up).
I am reading the guide by retired caps to learn more about potential issues and how to test each...Meantime will order a replacement for the KSC cap...
Any ideas on what to do next are welcome...

        Update:
Connected each CCFL one by one and this time I would get a short flash and then they would turn off. It was the same for each of them so I am assuming CCFLs are ok.

Replaced the KSC Cap in the inverter with Panasonic EEC-FC1E221BJ and the monitor is working now. Thanks for your help.

Well done ! - Im sorry I must have missed your previous posts. Hopefully that will keep it going a bit longer - perhaps consider replacing any other caps of same make.

I've experienced the same issue with my MV220, although my electrical expertise can't compare with yours. When installing the new capacitor, I realize the capacitor terminals are different lengths to differentiate positive from negative. Can you tell me which terminal goes to the ballast side and vice versa?

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

I've got a Hanns.G Hi221 Monitor that works for a moment and then the display goes off but the power LED indicator remains on. If you power it off and back on again it does the same thing, it comes on and then the display goes blank. From a cold start it takes 10 seconds or so before the display goes blank but if you turn it off and then back on again after it already being on it goes blank a lot quicker so I'm assuming something is getting hot which is causing the display to go off.

I've uploaded a video of it happening on YouTube:

                      Hello Badcaps Community,

I purchased a preowned AOC monitor that is not working and out of warranty. It was sold as not working. I am looking for guidance on self-repair. In particular, I am after the firmware for the monitor. At the end, I have included monitor model information and links to pics and vids of the issue.

The problem is that it will not display a picture on any of its inputs. And the on-screen menu does not appear. The power button works properly. It powers on with the remote as well. But the on-screen menu does not appear, even when not connected to any...

                      Good evening, gentlemen.

I have a problem with my monitor. It turns off after a few seconds or flickers. Shining a flashlight on the screen doesn't show any image, so I guess it's not the "2 seconds to dark" I read in the forum.

To turn it back on, I have to press the power button twice. Then after a few seconds it turns off again or flickers. See video.
