vx2255wmb -no power - no led light

Was going to sleep and shut the monitor off then got in bed and smelled the electrical burning smell and got up and the monitor would not turn on, and there is no led light and i don't hear any sounds at all when trying to power it on.

I opened up the monitor and there was no burn marks or anything on the power board the caps looked iffy on two of them like I can't tell if they are good or not a tiny slight bulge if any but I'm a newbie in that regard. I can order a new power board for 20 bucks but i just want to know if that will fix it first. My volt meter really wasn't very helpful as its not really for capacitors so couldn't test all that. I just don't want to replace the power board and have it not be that, is it possible the actual power button fried or something?

We need pictures, the power supply is always running even when the monitor is turn on due to always on power supply circuits. I will not be surprised if it does have bad cap in these VX series.

Re: vx2255wmb -no power - no led light

They are good enough for me. Though in one picture it appears that 3 are slightly domed. In another picture they look flat. You can tell yourself. If it's not absolutely flat on top. Then it's bulging. You can tell under a bright light.

As far as the best method for repair. It all depends on your goal. If you simply want it fixed with the least amount of effort, that $20 DAC-19M011 is a really good price.

If you want to put some time and effort into measuring cap dimensions, checking transistors, and running diagnostics; then you can go that route too. But you'll still be spending at least 6 to 15 dollars for parts.

That board you see on eBay from China, even though its revision 01A, for $20, will probably get that monitor running again. I'd give it a 99% for sure.

        But that's no fun

          Two are domed for sure.

Its a DAC Board,so you should also check the two Surface mount fuses on the bottom of the Board, they have the letters Y and P on them .

If you are sure, that the power board is new, then maybe you just have confused sides of the cable between power board and led+button board.

Re: vx2255wmb -no power - no led light

                  Hello,

I figure i could up this post as my issue is identical, and the screen is worth like 40€ used...

The vx2255wmb doesn't display anything (black screen when powered on, just the quick blue led on bottom, then nothing, pushing the osd button does not display the osd).

                  So i opened it up, and i see 4 bulged caps (2x 220uF25v / 2x 1000uF25v).

As my only option for a cheap repair would be to buy some good caps, i'm looking on ebay (no electronics store nearby) for an Assortment Kit so i, but before, do you guys have any advice ?

For example i want to buy good quality pieces but would this set work for me ?
                  http://www.ebay.com/itm/25Value-125p...item3386d9b21d

the 1000uF one is rated for 10V, so what value matters, both ? Just stuck on this noob isssue :|

                  or this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/15Value-125p...item2ed536b838
Here the voltage is rated higher, so could i go with this ?

best regards, and thanks for reading !

Re: vx2255wmb -no power - no led light

Ideally you want the same values. You can go higher on voltage but not lower. You really should replace all of the caps and not just the swollen ones.

Have you looked at digikey.fr for ordering the individual caps you need ?

I don't know if he ships to France but i sometimes use this guy for caps.

                      Thanks for answering diif

So by all the caps, you mean even the blue ones, or just all the cylinder shaped ones ?

I've circled the ones in red I'd change. What are the markings on the two i have circled in blue ?

Re: vx2255wmb -no power - no led light

can't really say, one has that white glue right where the value is written, the other has the value written just next to the metal sheet, i just cannot manage to read it.
They are of a different size and colour (brown) than the ones at the right, so can't make an assumption.

Thanks for the advice on replacing all caps, i think i'll just try replacing the ones you circles in red, because the other two are surrounded on the other side with resistors, it'll be a mess if i start going there.

If the screen works after i replaced the 6 caps, it'll be good enough for now
