I remember those write off days, It was nice while it lasted. Now I owe every year, fun fun. Two of the 8 small transistors were bad, on Q11 side. Now I'll check those zener diodes. 3 on each side.Im looking for a nice klein, but nobody has the one I want, must be popular choice.

As for the meter... while I do like some Klein tools, I don't really like their meters, because they are more tailored to an electrician. For me its more Fluke (needs traceable calibration every year) and Agilent gear for work. Now this Owon we will see what it does... but it would save me time troubleshooting and a lot of walking or carrying my bench oscilloscope. Getting older is for the shits. Without a digital microscope and a monitor these days... forget it. The stuff is getting smaller every time I open a lid. I swear.

Well that's probably why I'm going to replace the old meter with a Klein, I'm a diehard sparky, secondly a electronics nut for vintage amps, if I bring anymore shit in my wife gonna have a fit, I have my own + my dad's, and a few I picked up over the year's. The obsession started with plasma tv's on here I got alot of experience, then lap tops, now amps. I'm going to start removing those zeners, and test out of circuit, especially on the Q11 side, if they are good I'll leave the rest as is. They all work as they should, voltage in one direction, OL in the other.

I didn't get much done today. I checked the zener diodes, in circuit, they all are working as they should. I'm going to check them out of circuit on the Q11 side of amp, where all the problems seem to have been. So far I'm counting about 7, 8 bad components. I'll list them later. Rain is kicking my ass, this week, 6 days of bad storms here in Pa. My hands are stiff , and sore. Are there any other areas I should do a quick check, maybe before the output transistors on the Q11 side.

Well, I would fly over it with a DMM and compare it to the other side.

I did get a bit further on the TIG welder and the problem are some chips on the main board. The little power supplies are fine.

Not, much behind there, a resistor or two, 2 pair of flat ceramic plate resistors, the big caps are in the way though. Those chips probably need reballed, I messed with that for a few yrs, way too much trouble, probably best to find a cheap replacement board, or send it out to someone who reballs the chips. Not to worry, I can do BGA. These chips aren't BGA on the TIG welder. The owner said either I fix it or it's getting scrapped. Replacement board = CAD 2000. A new TIG welder from Miller = CAD 6800. Crazy.

I know you'll be able to get it going.I did alot of Ps3, Ps5 a ways back. I hated all the bullcrap, doing those chips. They usually were matched to the boards, and if the chip was toast, so was the unit. I enjoyed working on the plasma tv's the most. Enjoy your weekend, I going to get back at it probably sun, or monday.

Well what a bad weekend, My LG OLED just shit the bed 3 yrs old, I'm beyond pissed, $2,000 for 3 yrs. Thank God my wife was smart enought to purchase the 5 yr warranty plan. What is with these Tv's, and electronics these days. Everything just made to last past warranty. If anyone owns these OLED Sets, do yourself a solid , and buy the extended warranty, you'll be thankful that you did. End rant! Work continues on with the KA-701, I was just looking around the boards , and noticed a leaky cap on the control board, it's looks like it leaked, but not 100% sure, now to rip into that before I start to check things out on dim bulb tester.

It has the stand-by light, but when I turn it on it shuts back off in 2 seconds, the protection circuit kicks in. No pic or sound , black screen. I believe it's the power supply, but that's another gents problem, it's under warranty!

Well… that Miller is getting interesting too. Checked that optocouplers and all MLCC caps, and still no go. Pretty confident that the problem is one or more of these IC”s.

IC'S always seem to be the trouble makers in all electronics. You got any suggestions for removing that 1.5mm set screw in the volume knob, it's stripped, I can't get it to loosen for nothing, all stripped out, will not be able to get to any components on control board with out removing that volume knob.It's definately stripped in there. It sits back about 1/2in, so what ever has to get at it must be thin and long. I was thinking an easy out but don't no if they make them that small. It's 1.5 mm.

If the set screw doesn't turn, someone put like thread locker to it. Heat and break cleaner dissolves thread locker. But then you don't know, maybe someone used glue or crazy glue etc.
A torx bit will go in there too.
Glue the Allen wrench into the setscrew with metal puddy.
Take the next size up and switch from metric to SAE and jam that Allen wrench in somehow.
Take a sacrificial flat screwdriver, grind it to size and jam that in there somehow?

I'm going to drill it out, and re tap, I tried everything. Pissed now, something as easy as this, turns out to be a night mare. Who would be so dumb as to put something in there, that's not supposed to be, and strip it. It's completely rounded out so I'm drilling it out, and re tapping. A 1/8 standard drill bit fits in the hole perfectly, and is large enough to drill out set screw. Now to find proper tap for 1/8 drill.

hardened steel grub screw . try a reverse drill bit
