    Yamaha RX-V563 - any hope?

Hello. I have a Yamaha RX-V563 with a dead DSP board in it. Previous owner had a plant sitting on it, and when they went to water said plant, water was accidentally spilled inside the receiver, right on top of the DSP board. So it is likely that the main processor is now fried, and possibly some other logic. Rest of it (amp, PSU, transformer, etc...) seems fine tho.
Right now it clicks the relay on standby board and that is it. No display, no lights.
Just out of curiosity, I replaced C402 (0.01uf film cap) with no results.
Any hope for this machine? Is there a way to get this to work as just a standard stereo amplifier? OR I could just scrap it and make new amplifiers with STK chips from it, but my laziness gets in the way there.

I would check low voltage regulators on the board. A DSP board is likely to use 3.3V & 1.8V/1.5V/1.2V supplies, so check if they are present.
Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: Yamaha RX-V563 - any hope?

I don't think there was corrosion, and there certainly were no burns. I can post a pic of DSP board later.
As for voltages, I don't remember if DSP got it's voltages from regulators on it's a own board or from the PSU board, will check later.
For anyone who is interested in helping, first above thank you, and second, please downlad the service manual from my first post. It has PCB and schem. For all board incl. DSP.

Re: Yamaha RX-V563 - any hope?

I looked around a little more and there are no voltage regulators on DSP board. It gets its power from power supply board marked Operation (2) in service manual.
How likely am i to get this thing to work? As far as I know the DSP is simply not powering on, therefore no other thing powers on. Or is something else wrong? Hmmm....
I have fixed analog (mostly vintage) amplifiers before but none of yhis damn digital BS.

Re: Yamaha RX-V563 - any hope?

Well, all the power supply voltages seem to measure okay, so it simply looks like the DSP board has genuinely kicked the bucket. And I have FAR too little knowledge about digital audio and digital stuff in general to mess with that board.
I paid 10€ for it, and I think I got a good deal, this thing contains a goldmine of good parts. STK chips from this receiver will be used to build a new amplifier and power supply electrolytics are going straight into my Samsung L4A.
If anyone has any more ideas on what to measure or replace, let me know. I fill wait till tonight, and the this receiver is going to be stripped for parts and then it's off to the scrapyard with this.

I see a few slightly bulged Nichicon VR(M) capacitors near STK chips, but i doubt changing these would make any difference? They are 10v 100uf.

Yep,this thing's DSP is absolutely toasted. It can't even run in protection cancel and diagnostics mode. Teardown time!

Re: Yamaha RX-V563 - any hope?

Try getting a broken unit from Ebay and use the DSP board in your receiver.
I had a Harman Kardon AVR1700 with spilled fluid in it and one third of the board it was super corroded, rust all over. One pin from one of the chips was completely corroded off(missing). I have soldered another wire there, cleaned the whole board off and the receiver turned on and all the functions worked as they should, except I couldn't get any sound out of it.
I have managed, to pick up another broken receiver, for $40 with a remote controller and swapped the boards and all it was OK. The remote alone, it's around $45 on Ebay.

Re: Yamaha RX-V563 - any hope?

Well the problem is that this is a pretty uncommon receiver. Guy who had it before me had been hunting one down for about a year with no luck. He looked on ebay, forums, local repair shops, etc... with no luck.
I already tore it to pieces because I don't have room to keep broken stuff, I have barely enough room for my working stuff. I usually sell what I fix but I keep a few items every now and then, and I have stacks of stuff.

As for the Yamaha's STK chips and other parts, I will be building a new amplifier soon and I might post it in this forum as well.

If you don't need the DSP functions, you might be able to make an input switching and volume control circuit controlled by the front panel or the remote (if it has a remote). The video inputs might be more difficult to switch between, but the audio part won't be too hard. The hard part would be programming a microcontroller to control everything.

^ Or better yet, just take out all of the digital circuitry out and simply wire it like a classic 70's/80's amplifier with everything using mechanical buttons and a real potentiometer for the volume control. Ugh, I can't stand that optical sensor crap on modern hardware. Maybe add analog EQ or tone controls too. Simplicity at its finest.

I got Yamaha RX-V563 not turning ON apparently no sign of burning but only i can see heat marks on the regulator IC on the secondary board where AC DETECT signal coming from. regulator IC giving out put 3.2 volts.

on transformer all AC voltage there except no voltage on yellow cables which connects to secondary board pin AC-6.

can any body help me in this regard.

Hi! My friend just brought this audio amplifier/speaker fro his music band saying they realized its got no sound. Led powers up but there no sound at all

There's also a large toroid transformer that feeds a lower voltage to the first 2 boards and a larger voltaje (36x2 rectified close to 100v) to the power board. The power board has the plugs for both speakers
There is only one signal wire connecting the first boards...

I came across Yamaha Technical Bulletin No. 0103, which describes a similar issue for models like the RX-V4A, RX-V6A, and RX-A2A. According to the bulletin, the issue can be resolved by shorting soldering points (e.g., J260 for RX-V4A or...

I have an old Yamaha RX V675 receiver which is starting to develop issues with the sound, although it doesn't quite match up with what folk normally report with these.

From cold, the sound cuts in and out. When this happens the amp is losing sync with the optical input (speaker graphic disappears from the front panel). But this is not resolved by putting the unit into pure direct mode. After a couple of minutes this resolves, although there are occasional clicks from the speakers after that.

At first I thought it was either a speaker relay or the DSP, but I don't think...
