Can a microwave oven be used to reflow solder joint?

I heard somebody suggested a way of repair faulty led light bulb which I have never heard of. The way is to put the led light bulb inside a microwave oven and turn on the microwave oven for a few seconds. He said that faulty led light bulb is usually caused by poor solder joint between the led and the pcb. Putting the bulb inside the microwave oven for a few seconds will heat and reflow the solder joint making it works again.

Is that possible? I do not want to try this unless I have a spare microwave oven.

(I do not mean to suggest somebody to try this. It may be very dangerous. If you want to try, you are taking your own risk.)

In a word NO. The microwave energy will NOT heat the solder and any coils/ circles of wire will likely be destroyed.

Well, whoever that somebody is... take your broken LED light bulb and hit him/her on the head with it, then tell them you heard from someone else that this is an alternative way to fix a dead LED bulb too.

If you mean the lamp that lights the cavity, yes you can because it is outside the cavity and not exposed to the microwave energy.

i thought the "rumor" somebody spread about fastcharging iphones with contactless charging in the microwave was better!!

The LEDs of the lamps are usually 30mA and inside they have 1, 2 or 3 LEDs, generating drops from 2.7v to almost 11v, I test them with a current limited laboratory source. Normally the LEDs burn out in those cases you can directly bypass and go

Microwave ovens do NOT like metal ... it's a great way to make a bunch of sparks and potentially ruin the element.

Now, a CONVENTIONAL oven could potentially reflow solder at the right temp. I had a 2007 Mac Pro video card stop working, and I stuck it in the gas oven at like 400 or 450 I think (might have been higher I can't remember) for 10 minutes (might have been longer), then took it out and let it cool and it worked fine after that. I can only assume there were some micro-fractures in a solder joint somewhere. The computer was about 9 years old when I did that.

Toshiba EM131A5C-BS microwave oven- noisy EE16 2.7 mH inductor
                          by valvashon
This poor microwave oven was purchased by my former employer in 2019 (it's a 7/2018 build) and lasted for about 3 months before making a terrible noise when in use. I determined that it was the main transformer and contacted Toshiba. They asked for a picture of the cord cut in half and the serial number, and then credited my boss' credit card. Rather than sending it to the e-waste, I bought a transformer on eBay and thought I'd try flipping it. Discovered that used microwave ovens aren't worth much but in for a penny, in for a pound as they say. It sat in my basement getting kicked and shoved...

                          by bpjl
                          Hello,

When starting the SEF 551.10 reflow oven, the following problem occurs:

It seems to me that this is related to corrupted software. Does anyone have files that can fix this device? Or maybe someone uses such an oven and is able to make a sector copy of the memory card located in the computer controlling this oven?

PS.: Of course, appropriate emails for help have been sent to the manufacturer and distributor in my country. No response yet, but I don't expect much. It's a fairly old device and from what I know, it's no longer...

                          Daewoo microwave oven repair
                          by goodpsusearch
One day my microwave oven stopped heating.

It would turn on and rotate the plate but no heat.

I removed the cover and checked components with digital multimeter.

Found that the high voltage fuse was blown.

This is not the AC fuse, if the AC fuse was blown then the oven would appear totally dead.

Then I tried to find replacement fuse on local electronic parts stores and this specific value was not available so I got the closest I could find.

I replaced fuse and tried to heat up a glass of water.

                          Strange noise...

Acer Helios 500 (PH517-51) - unexpected reboots when laptop is warm (cold solder joint issue?)
                          by Mirenia
                          Hi everyone,

got an Acer Helios 500 Laptop (PH517-51) for diagnosing with a strange issue:

The laptop runs for a while (1-2 hours, sometimes less) and then suddenly shuts completely off, like someone pulled the power cord and restarts immediately after on its own.
If this happened once, then the laptop only runs for a few minutes until restart.
This happens regardless while staying in windows or uefi or in a linux environment.

At first I thought of a normal overheating issue, but as I monitored temps with HWInfo64, nothing seems very hot.
