Re: eBay Chinese Electronic Clock Kit
i hoped to find a real schematic ..
as an afterthought it should be easy enough to add a reverse polarity diode and fuse .. or even a bridge rectifier like some Philips radios had .Comment

Re: eBay Chinese Electronic Clock Kit
I assumed that too, but its to be connected through a diode to the vcc supply... unless the MCU has voltage sensing and goes into backup (no display) mode below a certain voltage.
I also notice there is a resistor bypassing this diode (I can't make out the numbers on the circuit diagram) that CHARGES the 3V battery when connected to a supply! So DON'T use a standard 3V coin cell in there or you'll have another exploding component!.
*EDIT * What goes on with R12 on your PCB? Trick of the light or has that only got one band?
Tbh I hoped I could just solder it all and it'd workComment

Oh, and my watch runs at 360Hz. Can anyone guess the watch?Last edited by goontron; 10-08-2018, 05:41 PM.Things I've fixed: anything from semis to crappy Chinese $2 radios, and now an IoT Dildo....

Re: eBay Chinese Electronic Clock Kit
It's got a weird power supply. A 78L05 5V regulator then diode-drops D5 so the MCU runs off 4.3V and D6 for the LED display and colons. So on battery power, no LED's lit due to the blocking diode D6, and D5 also should have saved OP's parts from reverse-polarity. I would say the 78L05, C1, C2 are toast. It also micro-charges the lithium coin cell through R1 10k to +4.3V
You could try power it from 3 AA cells at 4.5V or remove the MCU and ensure the 5V rail works OK. It will work without C1 if the DC supply has a filter cap.
I can't believe how cheap these kits are. HS130110 SH-E 879 version.
I really like the other kits with DS3231 RTC, they don't drift.Comment

Re: eBay Chinese Electronic Clock Kit
The 78L05 voltage regulator is offered in at least three different packages: TO-92 (through-hole), SOIC-8, BGA. Same IC inside.
It is the low current 100mA version of the LM7805 high current 1,000mA part in TO-220 and D2PAK packages.
I know from experience they die if you give them reverse voltage, at the input or output actually, like connecting a battery backwards to the output. Foof.
OP should verify it puts out 5V; not shorted and giving near raw value of the AC adapter or else the MCU will pop.Comment

I have 3 of these in my home for over 10 years now and Im planning on replacing them as I lean towards a Philips Hue home setup.
They are great units but they lost the ability to keep/store the time and settings after power outages and brown outs.
I knew it was a battery in there somewhere but never got around to looking into it.
Well an opportunity came for me to remove this from its home in my wall so I disassembled it to see what was going on.

ive got a modern digital clock radio approx 15yrs old
my question is how long can a clock radio or a simple radio last ss farcas operating hours?
since elec components have limited hour lifecspan i would imagine the radio or clock radio would eventually fail.
the reason i ask is because i have my clock radio on radio function 24/7 for the past 7 years and its still working fine....i leave the radio on ..never turn off past 7years...thats approx 60000 hours
it uses very little power just a few watts i would imagine that may have something... -
by eccerr0r"Caseless Cheap Chinese electronic tools" I mean things you get from banggood, ali, fleabay, Am-Zon, etc. like AVR-Transistortester, miscellaneous signal generators, frequency counters, (variable) power supplies, oscilloscopes, low resistance meters, etc., etc. that comes optionally with a case, or comes only with a cheap piece of plastic that barely provides protection to the PCB.
Just wondering what of these (generally flimsy) tools you actually find use (almost) everyday and find indispensable for the price, compared to buying a Fluke or whatnot, if there is an expensive... -
by DXseekerMOHello everyone!
Recently I've noticed that some ShopJimmy backlight strips don't have double-sided tape installed upon them when an application calls for it, and I must purchase the tape separately. In a recent chat conversation with a customer service agent I told them if this tape wasn't applied when it was called for I would begin to consider ordering my backlight strips elsewhere. It looks like this time may have come.
I recently got a TCL 65S4 with bad backlights. After looking at the SJ listing here: https://www.shopjimmy.com/tcl-jl-d65...365as-m-led-ba...Yes0%1All backlight strips are the same quality0%1No0%0 -

I was watching TV when there was a huge lighting strike nearby my house that shook the house. When that happened, the picture on the TV froze and the TV wouldn't turn off except by pulling the power cable. Now if you plug in the TV, it seems to turn on (it makes the turn on "clikcs" it always does, the red power light comes on but there is no picture, although I can see the back light around the edges. And the TV doesn't respond to the power button on the remote to turn off, and doesn't respond to the manual power button on the front... - Loading...
