    PFC low?

I have a board that measures 357v with pfc. 162v in standby. I have read that it should be >360v. I know things don't work if pfc is missing, but what problems would it cause if just low? Is pfc a monitored voltage if low would it cause shut down?
I assume no responsibility for any stupid suggestions I might post.

    Re: PFC low?

Common problem for having low PFC is due to the resistors in the feedback string that the resistance has changed.

      Re: PFC low?

I don't think 357 volts is low, pfc is working. if ac line was a couple volts low that could effect the dc voltage in standby and when the pfc is working

        Re: PFC low?

In most Samsung if it goes below 360, the INVERTER or LED backlights circuit will go into shutdown.
We do not know what power supply he is working on. Some other brands may not have that protection for low PFC but will have PFC Over Voltage shutdown.
There are the so call fix for the SAMSUNG that has Backlights flashing problem and the supposed fix is to cut open a jumper, that jumper is for the LOW PFC Voltage shutdown protection, so when the jumper is cut the protection is no longer in place, I found and fixed the cause of the problem correctly due to resistors have drift off in value.

o.k. I did'nt think the pfc was that tightly regulated.

What would a proper working range be for PFC voltages?

HDMI over CAT5 with a HDMI switcher for more than one computer being monitored proof
              by sam_sam_sam
I recently got a new shed that it my battery testing work bench beside this it also be electronic work bench as well and general work bench area as well

I want to have a way to monitor more than one computer that is doing battery testing on the fly so I can switch between monitors and be able to see the results in real time

I a chief engineer where I work gave me the information and idea to use a CAT5 repeater which would be the simplest way to do this

They use a different method to transmit the data to tv monitors around the facility but that system requires...

Why does my ISP router hate my "homemade" power supply??
              by double_DD
              Hi all,

It's gonna be a long intro, so please buckle in, as it's a problem that's been bugging me for several days now. Thanks in advance.

So, I have 2 modems/routers, whatever the proper nomenclature is, one from ISP and one mine. I want to power them via USB-C rather then their original mains adapters (for reasons, that are hard to explain to sane people). Both routers come with 12V/3A mains adapters.
For this purpose I acquired USB-C charger with 250W and 5 ports, 2 of which can supply max 20V/3A. Since 12V isn't a standard PD voltage option (and to future proof,...

A2141 Not powering on - case study
              by mon2
This is a case study on a 'sudden death' A2141 unit brought in for service.

              USB-C meter is @ 5v with ~0A current draw.

              a) Disconnected battery. No power to the machine. Applied the Qianli Tail tester with the USB-C connector. Each USB-C power connector was green with the diode mode of testing. CD321x are not defective as originally thought.

              b) PPBUS_g3h is not shorted but is a low voltage due to the low INPUT voltage of 5v being boosted. On a random power up attempt, PPBUS_g3h was at the expected 12v63 range AND input voltage was observed to be @ 20v for...

Plasma Y board IGBT equivalency question
              by Biruslapio
I have two TVs here with both Y-SUS failures, one LG and one Samsung.
The Samsung's Y-main shorted one FGD4536 and one RJP63K2(there are two in parallel)

I have the FGD but I only have one RJP63F3, which is different from the K2, so, can two 30J124 be put in place of two RJP63K2? are they equivalent?

Also for the LG two 30F131 shorted, I have some FGD4536 (the same that are used on the samsung), can they be also be a substitute without issues?

RJP63F3 and K2 are 630V 30A IGBTs, but their rise/fall time and other internal variants differ.

Acer Helios 500 (PH517-51) - unexpected reboots when laptop is warm (cold solder joint issue?)
              by Mirenia
              Hi everyone,

got an Acer Helios 500 Laptop (PH517-51) for diagnosing with a strange issue:

The laptop runs for a while (1-2 hours, sometimes less) and then suddenly shuts completely off, like someone pulled the power cord and restarts immediately after on its own.
If this happened once, then the laptop only runs for a few minutes until restart.
This happens regardless while staying in windows or uefi or in a linux environment.

At first I thought of a normal overheating issue, but as I monitored temps with HWInfo64, nothing seems very hot.
