    dad has 30+ experience but couldn't finish the soldering

    my Dad has 30+ experience in electronics but is now very old and i need to solder 4 more voltage regulators but i am not good at soldering and think i'll end up blowing a cap


    please help

    Blowing a cap? That's almost always because of a cap being in the wrong polarity.

        what tools do you have, pinpoint on picture what exactly do you need to solder ? A hot air would be of help here.

          this is the stuff my dad brought me

          its kinda nice because its actually something my dad and i can work on together


          i mod cars and computers but my father could care less about either and a project we are working on trying to learn

            i want to swap out the voltage regulators and can i cover/block the caps around since they are real close to the regulators

              Those SMD regulators will be hard to replace with just a simple iron, assuming that old Weller still has a decent tip on it....
              Not impossible sure, but it's not something a beginner should try on a multilayer board like that - far too easy to ruin it.


              Why do you want to replace them all anyway?

                The easy way woud be if you have a hot air gun. You need to desolder all 3 or 4 pin of regulator at the same time.

                And yes why woud you replace all reg ??

                  I am still using the same Weller (I use it for over 30 years) and solder sucker as shown in the picture. I use wide tip PTC7 or PTD7 for parts removing. The trick is to add solder and use flux.
