You can buy it on there, but just like buying amtech flux on aliexpress it'll be counterfeit stuff of varying quality. The legit chemtronics stuff is made in the USA. My source for that is the last spool I bought from digikey a couple months ago for work had the COO on the invoice as United States. Curious though now how the aliexpress stuff compares to the stuff I got from digikey.

I'll be the first to admit that I never really used solder wick unless I had to. Some years ago, I bought a desolder station (almost 300usd), and it has been great.

Lately, there are some very cheap soldering iron/desolder pump combos that seem to work ok. They had something similar to this at my former work and they seemed to like it.

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
                  by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

gigabyte x870i aorus pro ice stuck on dram light, ddr5 power good voltage 0 when ram stick installed
                  by Apoco_ lips
I have a gigabyte x870i board I am attempting to repair. I have a working board as well to reference. The board is stuck on the dram light, wont post and I found the power good pin has 0 volts when powered on with a stick of ram installed. With out the ram it is 3.3v. Another weird issue with the board is when trying to use qflash to update the bios, the qflash light blinks for about 15 seconds then turns off for 30-45 seconds and then turns back on solid for about 3 minutes. My working reference board will flash the qflash led for about 15 seconds, turn off for a few seconds then turn back on...

Good power bank shells for 18650 cells?
                  by spleenharvester
I did a cell salvage run on some Dyson batteries to build out a new fleet of Milwaukee batteries and the yield was a lot higher than expected, so I now have a lot of extra Sony VTC4s that are in reasonably good health. I'd like to build them into power banks, there's a glut of shells for 18650s on AliExpress but I don't know which are any good (read: won't explode). Can anyone recommend some (especially the ones that just fit a single cell)? Weld or weldless are fine, I have a spot welder

I suppose USB-PD and/or quick charge would be desirable too

                  Cheers

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga 4th Gen - Dead ThinkEngine (EC Chip)
                  by Levande99
Hi guys. I bought this one to see if I can fix it to use.
Immediately under the thermal camera I can see the ThinkEngine is glowing red hot - clearly an internal short. Absolutely zero corrosion or water damage anywhere.
Two pins shorted have low impedance - PGPIO0 (5 ohms), RD0_ON/5MUBAY (0.7 ohms).

It is the BD4179 (the schematic has it labeled as a TC62D518FTG_BD4179MW V-E2_W QFN56_7X7). I can of course solder a replacement IC, but can find no information on whether its self reprogramming. I do not see a seperate ROM chip, I understand these have internal ROM, and on...
