    Gigabyte P35 chipset motherboard

From my signature it can be seen that I have a rather nice motherboard. However for some time I have noticed that during operation the mouse would become slow and jerky in response. Checking the Windows Task Manager in the Performance section it indicated that both processors were working at about 50% whilst the idle task was about 95% ie no apparent task doing any work. This indicated to me that there was some problem outside the normal tasking that was loading the processors and causing the mouse problem.

The problem has now disappeared after flashing the bios with version F9 which claimed to fix a cpu incompatability. How about that, it has taken many bios revisions to fix.

Has anybody else experienced a similar problem?

The only recent bug fixed by BIOS flashing was a KG7 board I recapped for a client. WinXP was having all sorts of random crashes and hangs.

One of the guys here reminded me to wipe the CMOS after recapping. And my thanks to him for reminding this old tech to remember the basics... I wrote WIPECMOS which is an ASM routine that ripples zeros through CMOS and forces a reload from NVS. It cured the KG7 lockup problems.

Davmax, does your Series 3 chipset board come without a floppy connector? Yesterday I had a marathon event with a Series 3 G33 board (Intel one-off board for Gateway as DG33SXG2). It comes with a funky ITE* atapi controller on board, and requires specific drivers for both BART-PE and WinXP installation. You can find the ITE* drivers on the Intel site for the DG33TL board. There are no native WinXP drivers for this controller. Installing without them gives the usual 0x7B BSOD.

My P35 board does have a floppy connector. Very flexible options on this board eg DDR2 and DDR3 support and 65nm to 45nm Intel processors.
As a user of XP I am glad I did not get G33 board as described. Interesting response, thanks.

The G33 boxes seem to be a favorite with Gateway at the moment. I've never been a Gateway fan, and am even less of one now. Gateway seems to be popular at the Big Box discount stores, such as Costco or Sams Club. I'm sure you have something equivalent Down Under.

I've been edumacating myself on Intel boards and hardware after a long hiatus... the G33 series just plain sucks. The lack of floppy, and use of ITE* lame-o controller makes for a difficult box to support. I spent HOURS building BART disks until I found the combination of ITE+IAstor drivers that works correctly. I had to manually slipstream that into my txtsetup.sif on my install CD, because these damn machines do not have a floppy controller. WinXP will not accept a USB floppy for F6 driver installation, so it has to be on the CD.

it appears that you were successful in creating an xp installation disk for the gateway G33 intel board. i'm able to get the drivers loaded, but the install does not recognize any of the harddrives when it goes to setup the partition. i'm installing xp pro with SP2 slipstreamed into the install. i've also added the iteatapi.sys and IaStor.sys to the $OEM$/$1 areas. what else do i need????

          thanks,

i would suggest to use Nlite, slipstreaming the ITE drivers with it worked for me on an other board (Gigabyte I965 chip).

              i did, on my laptop.
upgrading touchpad drivers did nothing, but upgrading audio driver cured it.

i think more appropriate would be to say
"As a user of 2K I am glad I did not get G33 board as described"
, because me using 2K ment opting for asus g33 mobo instead of intel, as intel provides no drivers for 2k on g33 boards, and asus does.

no floppy controller, no pata controller.

intel will surely be kicking old stuff from their chipsets, and that means 3rd party controllers that may or may not require special drivers.
it's imminent: at certain point old software just doesn't run on new hardware.
all one can do is to store things in formats that should have good support from next gen. software and os.

something else: with the fast pace of releasing new hardware, it's hard to expect full compaitibilty of everything with everything else. or drivers for everything, like bgavin's case shows.

This was answered offline in detail.

The solution is using www.driverpacks.net to slipsteam CHIPSET, CPU, and MASS STORAGE driver packs into an XP install CD. These driver packs are constantly updated to suppor the latest and greatest hardware.

You will also require the BASE driver pack, which handles the slipstream functions. Once you get the hang of it, it is very slick and works very well. This CD will let you install on any machine without getting the 0x7B BSOD because it cannot mount the volume. This method is the perfect solution for those boards that no longer have real floppy controllers. XP only recognizes a genuine floppy drive. USB floppies and jump drives are ignored for the F6 setup functions.

Yeah...that new QuadGT I just got set up for my media server had the same issue. Its working great now. Since I didn't have a floppy drive, I just used a USB memory stick to do the flash. Worked pretty slick.

I just acquired a Gateway GT 5628 with the G33 board mentioned here. I have been trying to load XP, and obviously can't without the type of knowledge displayed in this thread. Would anyone be willing to help me get this done? I have a virgin XP Pro disk, ready to go.

I use UltraISO to build the image of the XP boot CD. You can use UltraISO to extract the boot image file from any WinXP boot CD.

The instructions for slipstreaming Driverpacks is found on their web site.

If you read the instructions and follow them, they will slip stream the required chipset and mass storage drivers into your XP image. You then build a bootable CD using UltraISO and install normally.

                        Re: Gigabyte P35 chipset motherboard

I have loaded UltraISO, but I get a read error when trying to extract the boot file from the disk. I can't seem to figure out why.

I have also loaded nLite, and am reading the disk and getting through the process, except that I am making coasters. The newly created boot disk is read, all the drivers are loaded, and I still get the error message “a problem has been detected…” on the Blue Screen. The place that I am getting the drivers is from the file “Intel_textmode_drivers_32bit_v8.2.3.1001_repacked_by_Fernando” that I got off the MSFN website. The driver that I am loading is “Intel ICH8R/ICH9R/ICH10R SATA RAID Controller”. You mentioned finding a driver combination that worked. Any help or hints there?

This is about the end of my capabilities and patience in trying to get XP loaded on this darn computer.

                          Re: Gigabyte P35 chipset motherboard

NLite is more pain in the ass than it is worth. I even sent the guy money, but never use it.

                          1) Copy entire cd to a disk directory
                          2) Install driverpacks.net
                          3) Run dps-base to slipstrem your CD directory

Use UltraISO to extract the CD boot file as "Microsoft Corporation.img"
Use UltraISO to build a bootable CD using the above image.
Share the above disk directory as anything, i.e. XPSHARE
Map a drive letter to XPSHARE

                          Load UltraISO
                          Create bootable CD
Do the Add Directory function, using the mapped drive letter.

This loads the entire CD directory in one step, into UltraISO.
Save as an ISO or use UltraISO to burn your disk.

If you have hardware problems, use another machine or fix yours. CD drives are cheap.

I just recently used nLite to slipstream WinXP servicepack 3 into a disk. I also added my raid driver to it. It went smoothly, and the disk worked flawlessly for a fresh install.

I wish that I could say the same about WinXP SP3. Another worthless piece of sh*t from Microsoft!

I'm so glad that I switched most of my computer work to Linux.

SP3 will be another money maker for the techs. I advise my clients to wait at least a year. I see no compelling reason to install SP3.

If Linux could get the 1-step install (setup.exe) as smooth as the Installshield version, folks would probably flock to Linux. Instead, they will probably flock to the Mac, now that XP is officially no longer sold.

A bit off-topic, but what else is new!

Linux is an internet baby, it was developed using the internet. Any Linux user should have a highspeed internet connection. You then can easily install applications from internet repositories, as they will have pre-compiled binaries (.exe in Windows World) for your Linux distribution. You just select it from the list and tell it to install.

For installing application "packages", I use a third party application called "Smart Package Manager". The thing I like is that it has an easily usable GUI interface, and it is installable on most Linux distributions. This gives me the identical interface for installing applications, no matter what version of Linux I use.

                                  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_Package_Manager
                                  http://labix.org/smart

I don't use Smart on Ubuntu/Debian because it already has the Synaptic Package Manager, which is very similar to Smart.

                                    I have a Gateway dg33sxg2

Where did you find the XP Raid drivers?

                                      http://www.driverpacks.net/DriverPacks/

They have an easy slip-stream process that will include all the mass storage drivers you require for the Gateway.

EXCELLENT! I tried above on my gateway GM5638E and finally got it to work. It has DG33SXG2 mobo. I just hooked up an external USB floppy drive wiith a diskette with the driver mentioned above. I got the driver at:

                                        http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...13652&lang=eng

I chose the second link for download as it says "f6" for using the floppy.

Thanks a lot man, I've been waiting for so long to have XP on my machine. Your help is highly appreciated
