    Re: Opera is now FREE

I read that somewhere a few days ago. I havent used Opera in a LONG time, I have version 7.xx installed. I guess I need to download the new one and see how it does. I used Opera a lot until Firefox came out.

they are likely seeing their market share eroded by firefox.
not to mention lots of us block ad servers at the router and via hosts files.
i might just try it now that it doesnt come with annoying advertizing crap.

        following testing today....i like it

i hadnt used it also for a long time. the interface looks good on XP i remember it looking crappy. starts up really fast, renders fast. the only problem is that i see on some sites it renders slightly differently to firefox and IE. it is minor though but made me realise i have yet another browser to check my site's compliance against....

The only thing I am not liking is the tab order, on firefox when you closed the right tab it went to the next one left. On Opera it goes all the way back to the first tab.

            yes i agree on that

did you try the text search where you press . or / and then type in the text you are looking for and then f3 to find the next one.

there is more of that.......everybody each suggest one item so we dont have to read the manual

i also like the way it defaults to the last page you saw when you start up again. this can be altered in preferences if you dont like it.

              Re: Opera is now FREE

this weekend i was suprised to see that Opera has proper handing of downloads.

Firefox can be crappy in that respect, if you want to resume a download there can be probs. If you close the browser you will not be able to resume the download. Firefox also seems to handle >2gb downloads strangely, ie it starts to count backwards after that.

Opera on the other hand allows proper resuming of downloads even if you close the browser and start again later. I was quite suprised to see that and did some great downloading with opera this weekend.

Why dont you use a download manager? well i like to see how the free software is doing. If anybody can suggest a free download manager that would be nice. At the moment i am ok with opera though.

Now that I have your attention:

In the last few days, it looks like Firefox has changed their software terms so they are now evil and WILL sell your data.

I already use Palemoon for Win7 sometimes. Looks like I'll be switching to librewolf as well, as Youtuber Louis Rossman suggests. Palemoon still supports Win7, but sometimes pages don't work properly. The Google Chrome browser might also still work for Win7.

I will have no choice but to upgrade my Firefox, so that I can copy dozens of tabs into a document or spreadsheet, or go through the history to...

I ripped off the bottom pad of a DFN (pic attached). Is it fixable/best strategy?
                by jonoldsdev
My motherboard died and I've been researching for a couple of weeks. I finally got some chips in and ripped off a slightly torn DFN mosfet pad while cleaning the board. Any suggestions on a general strategy to repair/replace it? I have the severed pad if it's possible to reattach. thanks, ya'll!...

Well first off, Nappy New Year to everyone!

So what's going on?! - How come we don't have an OS thread for this year? Did everyone just move to using phones? Windows 11 killed everything? Or perhaps now that some of us have the Covid vaccines, I guess M$ is already running in our bodies so we don't really need computers anymore, right? (OK, I probably better not open that can of worms here. )

Anyways, ya'll know the drill: vote what OS you're running on your "main" PC.

I know that might be tricky for all of...

Firefox will not display ebay properly.

                No help on Firefox forum.

When I click on a saved ebay bookmark Firefox will display the auction at the bottom of the page not the top plus the page has lots of errors.
Below is an example of one of the errors.

My blade 15 2019 laptop is going through its middle age crisis
                by Svenskih
Hi there, im wondering if anyone has any insight on my issue. i have a blade 15 2019 advance model. The other week something dropped onto my screen and cracked it (yikes!!!). i found a replacement online and installed it(not sure if this is the reason for my issue or just a coincident) i also do not have a battery installed. (it inflated some time ago and i opted not to have one)

so out of the blue i tried to power on my laptop but it wouldn't come on. the power pack had its green light and i changed power sockets to check that. i wiggled the cable around and ensured it was all...
