    Stevo wants a new monitor.

As the title suggests I want to purchase a new monitor to replace my 19" BenQ FP937s LCD. There's nothing wrong with my BenQ, it's just the fact that I want to do my homework more easily by using a widescreen LCD to put 2 A4 pages side by side. I have under $300AU to spend on a 20" Widescreen LCD.
So far I've had a look at a store around my area and I can get the 20" Benq G2000WB for $235AU or the Philips 200WS8FB for $249AU. I need some opinions on these two models or if anyone has any ideas on some similar brands/ models.

    Thanks.

Not enough experience to give real assessment, no reviews obvious. I notice that 22" wide screens are just over $300, maybe worth it.

same res as well. 1680 x 1050 on the cheap 20" to 22"....well obviously cos its cut from the same panel probably. may be a issue for some though.

LCDs are a minefield. too much on offer and even different panels in the same model......

            i fancy a 22" samsung also
how is the colour of photos? reasonably realistic or with blue or pink tinge?
is there any difference in contrast from the upper and lower parts of the screen?

here there are 3 models currently

SM2232BW - has glossy finish and wobbly base
SM226BW - has a decent base but model replaced by other two
            SM223BW - has a decent base

review about SM2232BW with interesting revelations

Re: Stevo wants a new monitor.

It all looks spot on to me. Colors are perfect, contrast is very consistant unless you're way above or below looking at it straight on.. Of course I'm coming from an 8 year old 19" CRT, so I suppose anything is going to look good. But yeah, to me, it's perfect. I even turned down the brightness a bit. Even the base works good.

I can't speak for their whole line though. Just the 2220wm.

new LCDs are bright cos they get dimmer over time.

thanks for the opinion. just wondering if samsung are still on the ball. I was pretty shocked at an eizo S1911SH but perhaps that had to do with the low contrast 700:1 as opposed to these newer samsung with 3000:1.

still i am not really into TN panels but i need a cheap one for the office.

Funny thing about that article I linked above :

The CMO panel has an overall blue dominance.

I have an old 710v in the office with blue dominance. I always thought that was just a result of being a value tft. but it has a CMO panel also. http://www.cmo.com.tw/

more from the same site on 226BW panel versions comparison

I can get a Samsung 22" monitor similar to the one you specified from $300-$350 AU.... depending on the store I get it from.

Oh and the exchange rate here today is $1 Australian = 94.5 cents American. Pretty good in my opinion considering the fact that I still remember the time when I was a kid (9 or 10 years old) and it was like $1AU for 50c US.

                      wierd looking lg

                      wierd base with lighting

why put the ports on wire connected box? has DVI only, includes DVI to DSUB cable if you like that. psu is external.

by the way i did not choose this

anyway the panel when turned on showed a very good picture. colours were correct and perhaps tending very slightly to blue. not enough to complain about. unit has no buttons, everything is software. ran the software and did the setup. tried first the auto setup, came out something terrible with completely wrong white balance. did the setup manually and wished i had not run the driver lol. anyway it was necessary cos the user needed as all users do to turn down the brightness of a new lcd.

i havent really played with an LG before and ignoring the stoopid designer aspects of this model and the software which was not bad (it gave quite a good user interface and with some nice test screens, pull up this pic and you should see that when you tweak it good) the panel was good with good viewing angles and colours. there was only some bad backlighting at the left side which was apparent from a far away angle view, otherwise not viewable straight on.

so i can see that lg is similar to samsung and not a bad choice.

Nice one, but a bit out of budget, willa: I'm usually asked to fit a whole computer into 1000 euro, so the screen can't cost more than 250-300 ...

I bought a Samsung 2493HM a month or so ago. I like it. Its big. I really enjoyed the old 19" Sammy LCD I had so I figured I'd give this one a try. I still use the 19" on another system.

There is a bit of light bleeding through on the bottom when the screen is black, but its no big deal. I rarely watch a black screen.

got a Samsung 226BW for the office. Was an impulse buy. Glad i got a 22", looking at the 20" and 22" in the shop, the 22" was much better sized. No light bleed or otherwise poor lighting (in typical office setting). i did not do the dark test as unlikely i will use it in the dark. no dead pixels. viewing angles good.

default settings are pretty bad though. there is not any blue cast but excessive unrealistic contrast. i guess the kids like that. i was able to tone it down and get it in the range of how i wanted it with lots of tweaking. still needs work though. might get a spyder sometime since i am getting so anal about calibration.

panel is a CMO unfortunately, but they seem to have gotten better than when they made my old 710v. Anyway i was budgeting for 250 euro, but went to 300 for this cos it was bigger and had dvi. there was another sammy panel which is newer and cheaper but no dvi....cmon. I wasnt going higher than 300 though.

22" is good for the office. now we are doing so much referring to other electronic documents and writing report that its great to have two windows open side by side. i think its perfect size. Have to get used to sitting back now. maybe i need a new chair also....heh

I'm going to a computer store in the Sydney CBD to buy a new 22" LCD monitor. I'm currently looking for LG, Acer, Samsung or Viewsonic brands.
Hopefully there will be one that I like. But I am definitely getting it tomorrow.... at least I hope there's some stock left.

OK, I bought the LCD monitor this morning. I bought the LG W2242T 22" Widescreen LCD, it's black in colour and the screen is just awesome. Samsung was $273AU, but I simply couldnt fork out $273 for an LCD because I've already overspent with this monitor. Anyway, I'm still trying to figure out what angle I want this LCD to be.

                                      Thanks.

let's see the pix from the sides and top/below, while it's on.
                                        hehe...

bigger TN lcds really have that angle problem, because you can't really have good picture all across the screen. once top is ok, bottom is already dark(or bright) etc.
