Microsoft has moved to a monthly Rollup update model for Win7 and Win8.1 systems. This is the same model they're using for Windows 10. I just received these updates. Are these Rollups to be trusted?

October, 2016 Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework....(KB3188740)
October, 2016 Security and Quality Rollup forWindows7 x64 based systems (KB3185330)

    Thanks in advance.

Finally got windows to update with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. I went to this site

    https://www.microsoft.com/security/p...?wa=wsignin1.0

Then went down to System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection and chose the appropriate operating system

I'm glad I skipped all of that by disabling updates on the (very few) Windows 7 PCs I maintain.
    I could not install this.

ah, but did it *only* remove stuff???
a byte changed here, a byte changed there,
and before you know it, something slows down or randomly breaks.

and the solution offered - get win10!

The update actually removes more stuff than what is listed in my OP.
It seems those updates were for OEM's to integrate on customers laptops.
It even removes the shady IE update component KB3146449 which I mentioned here that was part of security update KB3139929

    http://ultimateoutsider.com/download...trol_panel.exe (standalone version)

It removes the Get Windows 10 icon from the system tray, deletes 10 if it's already been downloaded (but not installed), etc. There's also an option to undo the changes if you decide you might later want it.

I just wanted to let you guys know about this program incase you wanted a simple one-click method. As of right now, it does not block or remove any of the "telemetry" features, although it might become an option later on. It works on 7 and 8.

According to my setupact.log file in C:\Windows\Panther :

    2013-04-21 19:57:26, Info [0x0601ce] IBS Setup has started phase 2 at 2013-04-21 19:57:26

And I've never turned on Windows Update since then. Seems to be working fine for me.

BTW for those wanting a legit Windows 7 ISO you may want to get it here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...nload/windows7

The catch though is you need a valid Windows 7 product key. Retail. NOT OEM.

Not sure how but my optional updates started showing as important on 7 pro. A few of the updates were on the list tied to 10.

Updated the OP with: KB3161647 Windows Update Client for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2: June 2016

This update contains some improvements to Windows Update Client in Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. This includes the following:
An optimization that addresses long scan time for updates that's reported on some computers.
Fix for a Windows Update error 0x8007000E on some computers while they are updating.
    Some reliability improvements.
It's included in the June 2016 update rollup for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 (KB3161608) linked within that article.

T470S - TPM issue since TPM/BIOS update from Windows Update
    by T4-BR
    Hello,

Many thanks for the high quality ressources available on your website.

I'm currently facing some issues with my T470S:

    - I sat a Supervisor Password using special chars which was causing issues
    - Access to BIOS was locked but I was still able to use my PC

2 weeks ago, I got an update of BIOS/TPM from Windows Update.

Computer restarted and after Lenovo logo a loading bar appeared and at the end something went wrong + an error popped.

Computer restarted one more time and I got the prompt for typing Bitlocker...

Asus X541UV Windows update KB5063060 deleting BootOrder EFI environment variable? bios fix
    by davidebeatrici
I had 3 people contact me in a week because Windows suddenly didn't boot:

As you can see, all 3 are ASUS computers, but I believe the common factor is the BIOS being American Megatrends (AMIBIOS/APTIO).

The first two recovered just fine after a restart, but the third one didn't and was brought to me. The model is F541UV (X541UV).
Setup allows to add a boot option manually and the operating system boots just fine from both bootx64.efi and bootmgr.efi. However, there is no way whatsoever to save the option(s): upon a reboot the machine goes straight...

Lenovo ideapad 5 windows 11 update disable charging circuit?
    by bogart219
Hello fellows. My Lenovo ideapad5 151al7 doesn't charge my battery, this seemed to happen right after an win 11 update, at least that is when I noticed it. I rolled back the update but it didn't matter. The laptop doesn't work off of the power adapter, which btw, I always leave plugged in and never really use the battery. New power adapter and battery, same problem. USB-c connector. The battery monitor in setup says "charger not installed", (but it is). Using a usb tester, with the battery plugged in it reads 20 volts but no current. With the battery unplugged it only reads 5 volts with...

What OS are you running these days? I am down to 3 Windows workstations and one Windows Server on my LAN, everything that doesn't have a windows-specific need has been moved to Linux. Printing abilities with my large document centers are Linux's kryptonite; the reason for 2 of the Windows machines. The third machine still has Win7 on it, and isn't connected to the outside world. It has tons of software on it I use for diagnostics and updating various hardwares. My main rig is still Win10 Enterprise, so I had to vote Win10 in the poll...but I have overwhelmingly more linux machines than windows...
