unless you get it used, they're pretty expensive due to supply. Something with that motherboard is long overdue for an upgrade. Here is some cheap stuff that can run 7 great or even XP if you're willing to either try the driver install methods I mentioned above or use DMA.

    CPU - $47
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819117301

Motherboard (H81, MSI) - $45 - Yes, it has no PCI slots
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130731

Ram - $28 (4GB, 1600 - I choose 1600 for a 1333 CPU cause it costs the same as 1333 and runs at cas7 instead of 9, so you get a small performance boost for the same price)
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231277

I'm assuming you have an ATX case, P4 PSU and of course, your SATA drive, which would be cheaper new than a IDE new

oh shit wait, I need to correct myself, there is no XP driver for haswell HD graphics

Measure the voltages at the IDE pins on the adapter. Do the same for the IDE pins on the motherboard. Are the TTL levels the same, or is one 5V and the other 3.3V?

    markings on the bridge IC
First thing I did: search the datasheet: nothing found for
    IDE/SATA
    D0F
    B75K80041

    LDO regulators:
    AMS 1117
    3.3 H440PE

    AMS 1117
    1.8 H446PE

Thanks for the page, got details even if I don't know Russian.

Perhaps the motherboard cannot handle this low I/O voltage?
The MB receive 3.3V and I don't know if it has 1.8V regulator in it.

I suggest u do your research on sites with user reviews like amazon and newegg
On amazon there are reviews reporting both working and not working unit.

A few days ago I found this, MAC os discussion, go to reply #15 he's talking about the very
same adapter working good with a SSD SATA3 drive.

I have used both Silicon Image 3112A and VIA (can't remember the model) PCI SATA cards in a dual-PIII system and they both worked ok. The Sil3112A had some isssues with the VIA Apollo Pro 133A chipset board (would hang the system for up to 30 seconds on heavy drive activity, then resume), but the VIA card still works to this day in that computer. The Silicon Image works fine on other boards with Intel and other VIA chipsets.

Those adapters that just have ATA and power, i've had trouble with. They are either very slow, make the boot process hang for a long while before they start working, or just plain don't work.

Yeah I see the problem, that motherboard has no sata. Problem with an adapter is the boot driver might not be compatible, especially if the card does not support generic dma and use just use ahci, which considering the motherboard you have, you probably have windows XP, and you're not going to get a matching PnP id. Vista and 7 are a bit better at this to a certain point.

If you are planning on moving your old OS over, you might be screwed. Even if you're planning on installing XP fresh, you might be...somewhat screwed because you will either need to:

    1. Slipstream the disk with the appropriate boot driver with a tool like Nlite
    2. Have a floppy drive with the drivers on the floppy, and not all adapters have them for XP, though i'm sure some do

using a PCI adapter will likely be faster but using a the sata-> ide adapter will likely be more compatible

in the end, you might want to consider upgrading your whole computer because the P4S533 is limited to what you can do and is umm...like 12 years old

    I found this page:
    http://www.mindrunway.ru/IDE44toSata.html

The author of the project discusses an RXD639 bidirectional SATA<=>IDE adapter. It is based on the Sunplus SPIF223A bridge IC.

    Here is its datasheet:
    https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/...0aeea28e28.pdf

The two regulators provide 3.3V Vio and 1.8V Vcore. The chip does not connect to the +5V supply, so its I/O levels must be 3.3V LVTTL. Perhaps the motherboard cannot handle this low I/O voltage? That would be consistent with the multiple dropped bits.

You need to tell us the markings on the bridge IC. That's the important criterion, not what the baord looks like. Maybe the datasheet for the chip will tell us why it doesn't work. Maybe it has something to do with the I/O voltage. Could it be that the I/O is not 5V tolerant?

What are the markings on the two LDO regulators (3-pin ICs)? This will probably tell us the Vcore and Vio volts for the bridge.

well, actually a LOT of ide to sata adapters dont work properly or are problematic especially the made in china or brandless ones.

i suggest u do your research on sites with user reviews like amazon and newegg to know which ones work and which dont and try to order one that works in your respective area.

as an example and for my case, none of the ide to sata adapters would work in my area. i had to import some syba and startech adapters from amazon usa which did actually work for me.

    Re: Pata/Sata converter anyone?

    It's the adapter:

I checked continuity from every single IDE pin to the respective via and got continuity, so the problem is the continuity from the via to the the chip or the chip itself.

The chip has too thin pins and I can't use my probe because of their large size.
Here's a SATA WD hd in an ASUS P4S533-X motherboard:
    WDC WD3200┴A╩[-88L╗A0
    instead of
    WDC WD3200AAJS-08L

Also the ASUS P4S533-X motherboard give me another name for my toshiba, different from the name my MSI motherboard could read, will report in the future.

I'll write to the seller and report it's not working on 2 different machines.

    Character translate:
    ┴=ALT+193
    ╩=ALT+202
    [=ALT+91
    -=ALT+45
    ╗=ALT+187

    Don't buy RXD-629A7-7 adapter
or any other adapter that looks like.
They might don't work with several SATA HD.

ATTENTION: WRONG PICTURE IN POST #1.

Thank you really much ESPECIALLY fzabkar and Per Hansson.

I am not a computer expert and this is the first time I found this problem.

Tomorrow during spare time I'll try the HD on a SATA motherboard,
if name is ok I'll test both the adapter and HD in a IDE motherboard
to see if in BIOS the name is wrong again.

Yes sure seems like it, here is a similar case I once had:

The problem you have described at bleepingcomputer is due to stuck bits (0 and 3) in the IDE interface.

i have seen some adapters running on 5v when they should have a 3.3v regulator on the board.
they run real hot and die after a few monhs.

now the bitch is, the boards had the pads for a regulator, but the input and output had simply been bridged to save money!

I have a few SATA MB -> PATA drive converters, every single one work perfectly. They even worked for CDROM/DVD drives. On the other hand, I have one PATA MB -> SATA drive converter. This didn't work so well, but didn't play with it much.

Yes and via SATA PCI boards are trouble... then again it seemed to work ok on a via motherboard... or perhaps I'm imagining things.

waaa, u guys are lucky to have gotten your hands on working pata/sata converters. there's lots of fake pata/sata converters in my area almost as bad as fake caps around ebay.

anyway, none of the pata/sata converters i got would work reliably. first one i bought was a converter u attach to the board, couldnt detect my sata2 hdd. inserted jumper to limit the drive to sata1 and drive was detectable but speed and transfer rate were unstable. ruled out that the sata cable is faulty. works fine when connected directly to another sata motherboard.

next, when i tried a pata drive connected to a sata motherboard, the sata board simply could not recognise the pata drive. it just stuck at detecting the drive for several seconds then gave up and said "no drive detected at port".

also, another pata/sata converter (the type that is attached to the drive) killed one of my 2tb hard drives because it couldnt supply enuff current to the drive. drive kept clicking. smart failure detected. seek error rate out of spec. drive head failure. bye bye data. it was good to have had you.

    poor me!

    seen them? i'v owned them.
any motherboard that's old enough to only have ATA100 is unlikely to have any code in the bios to boot from SATA or even know what that is.

i hope this does not turn into another "anything older than c2d is junk for the skip" type threads!

GIGABYTE X299 AORUS ULTRA GAMING - SATA PORTS 4-7 NOT WORKING ???

    Hi,

I have the above mentioned bord after repair, which was related to a lot of missing smd devices on the back of the board.
There were almost 20 devices missing, caps, resistors and some diodes/mosfets.
The board is generally working now, all PCIe ports are working, Windows installs normally.

However I have a problem with SATA ports 4-7 (the board has 8 SATA ports) - disks are not beeing recognized by the BIOS neither by Windows (which is usually normal in case BIOS does not recognize them).
The SATA 4-7 driver network is quite simple chipset<->buffers/drivers<->SATA...

Like the title says, I have a Pegatron M2N78-LA (HP P/N: 513430-002) motherboard out of an HP Pavilion PC. The motherboard hard-locks during POST when it gets to the part of trying to detect the SATA devices *only* if there is a SATA device (be it HDD or optical drive) connected to any of the SATA ports. I cannot enter BIOS or do anything when this occurs. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del cannot restart the system either. In fact, the keyboard locks up too (Num Lock status LED cannot be toggled anymore.). However, if I disconnect everything from the motherboard's SATA ports, the motherboard can POST successfully...
