Re: Pata/Sata converter anyone?
^Not the cheapass via cards at least. Not in 2007 or so anyway. Not bootable. Better cards, sure.

Re: Pata/Sata converter anyone?
It doesn't need a bootrom (why you would think that is beyond me). Most PC's will see a PC card and allow interrupts for disk controllers to be passed through and be bootable, I have a half dozen on my bench to prove it.Leave a comment:

Re: Pata/Sata converter anyone?
Just use a SATA PC card they dirt cheap and would be faster than a IDE to SATA adapter.Leave a comment:

Re: Pata/Sata converter anyone?
Yes and no. You'd need an offset adapter, however I've never actually seen one. One such would stick the drive to the left side of the adapter, probably screwing onto the bottom of the drive rather than sides.
As you can see here, when centered (like the adapters I've seen do) the SATA connectors don't line up, instead it has to be aligned all the way to the left.

Re: Pata/Sata converter anyone?
I've used the kind that plugs into the PATA header and provides 2 SATA ports (Startech.com makes them, others make them with only one SATA port). I've had good luck; SATA I and ATA-133 are the exact same speed anyway.Leave a comment:

Re: Pata/Sata converter anyone?
Thank you c_hegge, can you post a pic of yours so I can buy the one that look closer?
There will be OS and data in the SATA hd, and it will be the only hd in the system.Leave a comment:

Re: Pata/Sata converter anyone?
I have one hdd adapted the other way (an IDE HDD on a SATA motherboard), in my server. It's in RAID 1 with a newer SATA HDD. It works with no problemsLeave a comment:

Re: Pata/Sata converter anyone?
Thanks. I can buy the metal plates to adapt the 2.5" in the 3.5" slot.
Can you suggest a SATA pci card?Leave a comment:

Re: Pata/Sata converter anyone?
looking at the motherboard specs, it's only ata100
you may be better off using a SATA pci card.Leave a comment:

Re: Pata/Sata converter anyone?
they do work.
one thing to remember,
that board is designed for a 3.5" drive.
when you plug it onto a 2.5" drive it will be hard to mount.
you may be better with the type that plugs into the motherboard and connects to the drive using a sata cable.
those adapters come in a lot of shapes and sizes for different aplications.Leave a comment:

Pata/Sata converter anyone?
Hello,
I want to use the ST500LM012 SEAGATE [SATA II HD 2.5" 5400RPM] in a old PC with PATA cable.
So I need this converter from PATA to SATA II.
But there are no report in the entire web that say: Yes, I've done it, it works.
Can you please tell me as much as you know about this kind of conversion.
Some info of my pc.
http://support.hp.com/ie-en/document/bph07843
I don't have the SATA HD, not even the converter.
Thank you.Last edited by alessioblaupunkt; 08-05-2015, 04:18 AM.Tags: None

by DynaxSCHi,
I have the above mentioned bord after repair, which was related to a lot of missing smd devices on the back of the board.
There were almost 20 devices missing, caps, resistors and some diodes/mosfets.
The board is generally working now, all PCIe ports are working, Windows installs normally.
However I have a problem with SATA ports 4-7 (the board has 8 SATA ports) - disks are not beeing recognized by the BIOS neither by Windows (which is usually normal in case BIOS does not recognize them).
The SATA 4-7 driver network is quite simple chipset<->buffers/drivers<->SATA... -

by clabrNeed help to solve some problems with this laptop.
After working in bed with it one night and heating up too much (probably the cause of this problems) the sata HDD OS windows froze
After restart the original Sata HDD was not recognized anymore (but works fine in other laptops or PCs)
Tried connecting other good Sata 2.5 HDDs but not one is working in this laptop anymore (not the original nor others)
Before this had happened I observed some other problems:
When I tried replacing original mecanical HDD with a SSD HDD could not get them... -
by momakaLike the title says, I have a Pegatron M2N78-LA (HP P/N: 513430-002) motherboard out of an HP Pavilion PC. The motherboard hard-locks during POST when it gets to the part of trying to detect the SATA devices *only* if there is a SATA device (be it HDD or optical drive) connected to any of the SATA ports. I cannot enter BIOS or do anything when this occurs. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del cannot restart the system either. In fact, the keyboard locks up too (Num Lock status LED cannot be toggled anymore.). However, if I disconnect everything from the motherboard's SATA ports, the motherboard can POST successfully...
