Yeah UEFI really sucks. I don't really find it useful for almost anything.

mmartell did you try to format the drive the way I told you? And did it work?

Have you got the latest BIOS?

I had an HP laptop, an old ZE4201, HDD was dead, put a new one in, but CD wouldn't boot anything, not even the official HP XP restore CD that came with it. Thought the drive was bad, tried USB drive, doesn't work either. Floppy doesn't work.

BIOS is like 5 years out of date from latest version.. but I can't boot a floppy or CD to update it! Lucky it's socketed and easy to get to.. pull the EEPROM and update manually with my Willem. Now CD and floppy boot anything I throw at them! (WTF HP?)

Re: Will an HP DV9000 Boot from SSD ?

Ya the boot order is very simple and does not specify booting from Primary or Secondary.

I believe this was formatted as one partition originally.

I do remember now what happened last time I messed with this. The drive was not seen by the system so I moved it to the secondary bay and that allowed me to install Win7 to it but it wouldn't boot from there. Moving the drive back to the Primary bay gives the "No OS Found" message.

Gonna mess a little more with this in a bit.

As far as bios goes I think it will only flash from Vista and I'm having enough trouble as it is atm lol.

Also the bios makes no mention of AHCI if that's important.

What is the make/model is the drive?
What exact model is the HP? There several variants of the DV9000 designation IIRC.
These things may make a difference.

BTW, I forgot to add that AHCI is a controller specification for SATA drives but is not a requirement for SATA drive operation. It may or may not be supported by the motherboard chipset.

There's A TON, not several variants of the DV9000. I know of 6 major variations, there may be more than that. If it's an AMD version it's going to have nvidia chipsets everywhere - those are known problematic so it could be a hardware issue.

Yes it is the amd version with Nvidia but...

As it turns out there is a more mundane explanation.

For whatever reason the adapter when seated wasn't making a connection inside the socket so I wedged it out some and it gets recognized by the system now every time.

Is Ubuntu a good "starter linux" or any recommendations ?

you should start with Ubuntu or Mint
                      but with one important point.
choose the version with the KDE desktop, not cinamon or mate.

oh, you need a minimum of 1gig of ram for the Mint installer - not sure about Ubuntu

                          exactly, it's the GUI.
KDE is very much like windows - you wont have any trouble trying to find things.

I personally use XFCE, it has a nice classic Windows look. Definitely stay away from Unity, unless you are the kind of person who loves Windows 8 and Metro.

Now, I've read it's wise to keep the firmware updated on an ssd so how come there is zero information about doing that on the PNY website ?

                                Model is 69D03092-T.

probably because they have not found any bugs.

Sometimes firmware (in general) is updated for performance or to add features rather than fix bugs.

I'm facing an issue with a HEG-001 motherboard that is unable to complete the Second-Stage Boot. I'd like to start directly with my conclusion, which is the decision to replace the MAX77621AEWI chip, and understand if it could be a correct evaluation.

Before I dive into the process that led me to this decision, I want to mention that I have a fully equipped lab where I can perform any kind of tests.

Following some guides online, I tried to understand how the Boot phase of the Nintendo Switch works, and what are the...

Xiaomi router freezes at boot after re-capping

I'm using Xiaomi Router 4A gigabit edition as wireless repeater. It worked fine for 2 years or so, but last week, wireless started to disappear.

When I unplug/replug the power, it was working fine for a day/half a day or so until it freezes again.

Hello all... TV started boot looping. Opened the back panel and tried to isolate the problem. Just PSB no boot loop. PSB and MB no boot loop. Plug in the LVDS from panel to MB and boot looping starts up. It doesnt matter of order that I plug the LVDS ribbons back in, only 1 and no boot loop but as soon as 2nd one plugs in boot looping. I then noticed a flicker on the screen when I was closing the clip on the harness to the LVDS. Shut the lights off so I can see better, and I noticed as i slowly close it, I will get a picture, but as soon as it clips in, I lose picture and booting happens. So I...
