I finally found a first generation socket 4 or 3 Pentium 1 CPU and the thing is massive! I really want to pull it's ugly heatsunk off and display the PENTIUM label beneath but this is where I am having real troubles.
First, the heatsink is attached without a clamp to the chip by a glue that looks like lite choclate. I would pry until it pops off but I am ascred of cracking the chip and ruining a piece of history.
Scraping it all away also seems useless because it is rathe stiff and I see at least two surface-mounted components on top if the ceramic chip.
Is there a trick or some chemical that can aid in removal?
And just if you are curious, it's at 66mhx and was made in 1992. It's no better than a 486 IMO.
